Introduction

Covin kit cars have a passionate and niche following, and why not - they are great fun for the money!
Produced from the '80s to early '90s and created by Tim Cook and Nick Vincent, hence the name Covin from 'Cook' and 'Vincent', this Porsche 911 Turbo kit car replica beautifully resembles one of our most adored 911 models - the famous Porsche 930.
Some early Covins were based on a shortened Beetle floorplan and running gear, but later examples (like this one) utilised Covin's own chassis with VW Type 3 running gear. The car comes with a wealth of history from previous owners including some old articles and memorabilia that has gathered over time with this cult kit car.
Okay, so we've auctioned hundred of thousands of pounds worth of Porsches over the years, and his is certainly something different from us! However, we were taken with the quality of this kit car and think it would either make a great car as it is (with a bit of work), or why not turn it into something special - perhaps a Baja rally car (that would be our choice in the office).
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Patrick, the owner, having photographed the vehicle.

Hello,
When was the car built? Is it possible to call you to discuss?
Hi Tommy, from the history/receipts that are with the car, it indicates that the car was built in 1990, at least this is when many of the parts were purchased. I am out of the office until Tuesday morning but if you leave your number with Trade Classics, I will attempt to have one of our team call you tomorrow. Apologies if this is a big tight. Thanks.
hi can i come look it this car ?????
£7,500 bid by russell2020 02.10.2020 @ 23:01:44
Can you tell me if the car was built by covin themselves? And if its on a covin chassis or a vw beetle chassis?
Thanks
Paul
Hi Paul, we are pretty sure that this car was not built by Covin themselves. We assume as much of the history and receipts are hand written that it was built by its original owner. The V5 for this car states that it is registered as a 1971 Volkswagen ‘Historic Vehicle” and does not specifically state that the chassis is produced by Covin themselves. It’s a little difficult to distinguish however as we don’t usually deal with these vehicles. I hope this is helpful.
Thanks.
Hi. Do you think the rear wheels could do with a 50mm hubcentric spacer?
Looks like a lovely example. A real credit to you.
I will be keeping a keen eye on it.
Regards
Paul.

how fast is it plez
Good morning Russell, we must stress that this is not a quick car at all and not a patch on driving a real 930 turbo. As mentioned in the description, the engine and running gear are taken from a 20th century Volkswagen which I estimate produced 40-50bhp when new! If the buyer is hoping to drive this regularly and take it on long roadtrips/journeys, it would need massively bringing up to date before doing so.
Hope this Is helpful.
Jim
thanks

Hello, it mentions video in the description but can’t find them. Is there video of this car?
Good morning Tom, I think that must have been a typo in the listing, there isn’t a video available sorry but hopefully the photos provided are sufficient. Thanks.
Hello, Thank you for the reply, there looks to be paint damage in a couple of areas including on the column next to the windscreen. is this correct as it hard to tell if its damage or sun reflection. also how does it run?
There are a few small marks on the car, a very small scuff on the rear wheel arch but its only superficial and could be rectified without much work. I’ve just looked at the car to check and the A-Pillars are in great condition, It looks to just be a reflection as you say. In terms of running, the engine starts fine, but does like to be left idling for a few minutes to bring oil up to temp. The car is a hoot to drive however we do stress that this is not a car we would recommend taking… Read more »
Thats great, the photos make the paint work look great, is the paintwork good quality in real life?
The chassis is a Covin chassis not VW? Is there any rust to the chassis or floorpans? Is it possible for you to do a walk around video including hearing the engine run?
Thank you
Tom
