Grace, space, pace and a short wheelbase - this Jaguar XJ6 Series 1 has it all.

The Jaguar XJ6 is one of the most beautiful saloon cars designed in the '60s that oozes luxury and was a model which was still produced up until last year. This is where it all began, the series 1 - even Sir William Lyons referred to the car as "the finest Jaguar ever".

Two straight-six engines we're available - this particular model was fitted with the more desirable 4.2L engine, and what makes this example most unique is its manual transmission and a short wheelbase. A very rare combination in exceptional condition.

Finding a well preserved series 1 is incredibly difficult, there are many run-of-the-mill examples out there, however, when you find one as good as this then you have to take note. For us, this car has it all, a SWB manual example in arguably the best colour combination, turquoise - it really makes the car stand out from any other XJ6 examples.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Dean the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I'm a Jag man through and through, and this XJ6 is one of my all-time favourites.

Dean purchased this example 9 years ago - it was in original condition, dry stored and off the road for around 10 years; the perfect starting place to bring this car back to life.

The car is all original, the original shell, engine and interior and there was no need for any welding on this well-kept example. Dean wanted to keep it that way, he did however completely rebuilt the independent rear suspension with new inboard disc brakes and tyres too.

Dean replaced the engine mounts and fitted all new bushes and fuel pumps, along with respraying the car in its original turquoise paint which really bought it back to life, as you can see from the photos.

This example is very special - being a short wheelbase and a manual makes it a rare example that Dean will be sad to see go, but glad it'll be going to a good home.

A gloriously curvaceous body shape – this design was way ahead of its time when it was introduced in 1968.

Wheels and Tyres

The car has its original steel 15" wheels, finished off with chrome hubcaps and wrapped in Maxxis tyres.

The wheels and tyres are in excellent condition - please take a look at the photos and videos to judge for yourself.

This is one beautiful example - the bodywork really is in really good condition with very few blemishes for its age.

Also, the shut lines across all the panels are tight and even as you'd expect.

Please watch the videos to see just how good this car is - Dean has been meticulous during his ownership and the quality of his nature shines through on this car.

Finished in its original turquoise colour (stated as green on the V5) we think it's the best colour to show the lines off on this car - it oozes a very cool '70s vibe.

Across the car, the paint is even in finish and colour - as expected from only recently having a fresh respray.

Please have a look at the images to see the condition of the paint in more detail.

Glass and Trim

All in great condition with all new rubbers fitted recently.

The chrome is good original condition across the car.

Please view the photos and videos for a more detailed view.

A simply stunning and original interior - complete with an 8 track tape player - jump into this XJ6 and get transported back to the golden days of the seventies.

Seats and Carpets

A very luxurious cabin to be in with a biscuit interior finish on this fine example.

Upon inspection, the carpets are in excellent condition and the door cards look great too.

The seats haven't been over restored, the leather has worn in nicely inline with the car's age and use over the years.

Please see the images for more details.

A dashboard, with lots of controls buttons and switches - ahead of its time. The dashboard is wrapped in Burr Walnut veneer and looks in excellent condition.

Dean has informed us that all the speedometer dial is not working, having already replaced twice he says its a common problem on this model.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original steering wheel and gear stick is fitted with overdrive. The overdrive has been recently been refurbished and has had work carried out on it to make sure it works correctly for the new owner.

Both the steering wheel and gear stick look in good condition.

The power behind it all - Jaguar's finest and very robust XK engine - 4.2 litres of goodness await the new owner.

Engine and Gearbox

As mentioned, the 4.2L straight-six XK engine is fitted and mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive.

Dean has had the cam covers polished and other parts powder coated. Dean did mention after a service the oil cap was left off and oil had spilled over the recently powder coated exhaust manifolds which have effected the look but not the performance - all has been cleaned since.

Dean mentions that the engine pulls just as it should and is in excellent condition with good oil pressure when hot.

Please inspect at the images and videos for a closer look - the videos show the car running.

Suspension and Brakes

Dean assures us that the car handles as you'd expect and stops just as it should do too.

All the brakes were rebuilt with new rear discs.

Please view the images to see this in more detail.

The Drive

"A very smooth ride and a joy to drive down country lanes, or cruise on main roads" reports Dean.

Due to Covid social distancing rules we couldn't take a drive out, however, Dean assures us the car drives beautifully and fault-free.

Electrics and Other

Fitted with a 8 track tape player and speakers, this car was cutting edge for its time.

Installed on this example is an electric ignition.

Dean reports that all other electrics are working as expected, apart from the speedometer that we mentioned earlier.

History and Paperwork

It's clear Dean has an emotional connection to this car - he saw its potential and brought it back to life.

Dean has completed a great restoration on this desirable Jaguar XJ6 - he has a whole folder of invoices to go with the car.

Works completed by Dean include:
- independent rear end completely rebuilt
- new inboard disc brakes
- new tyres
- new engine mount
- rear diff rebuild
- brakes rebuild
- clutch master rebuilt
- original door cards striped and refurbished
- new fuel pump
- new bushes
- full respray
- electric ignition fitted -
- Webasto sunroof which has been refurbished along with carpets and new screen rubbers.

The DVLA shows mileage anomalies that are obviously incorrect. It's quite usual for the MOT technician to write down the the incorrect mileage and it's even more common '60s and '70s Jaguars due to the mph needle covering the first digit. However, remember Dean tells us the car has had speedometer issues in the past and it's recently stopped working too.

Dean is more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Hi what would you take for this beautiful car pls.

Dear Dean,

I have only just seen this advert, from an ebay link someone sent me. Is the car still available?

If it is, is it a factory original 4.2?

Best wishes,
