Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

Gracious style combined with brutal V8 power, enter the XK8.

The XK8 was first launched in 1996 to replace the XJS, designed by Geoff Lawson it was available in either coupe or convertible form, both offering 2+2 seating. The XK8 came standard with 17" alloy wheels, an all-leather interior with burr walnut trim. In 2002 we saw the first mechanical update with the engine enlarged to 4.2L, more power output via an uprated six-speed automatic gearbox.

This convertible example owned by Nigel for the previous 2 years, is coming to auction. It's covered a lot of distance faultlessly and most importantly has been given the regular servicing it requires.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after liaising with Nigel the owner.

Meet the owner

I've owned this XK8 for the previous two years, she's always been a joy to drive. Sitting in the gorgeous interior is a joy.

Nigel is the proud owner of this 2003 XK8, he's really enjoyed driving it during his retirement. "The highly desirable 4.2L engine whisks the car from 0-60 in an instant, or, as I usually prefer, a leisurely limousine-like ride" reports Nigel. "The automatic gearbox is smooth as silk and can be switched from a relaxing normal mode into a much more active sport mode should one wish to show her heels to the more mundane traffic! She returns a very reasonable 32 mpg on the motorway and around 26 around town. Always a head-turner especially with the roof down".

The car is now coming up for sale as Nigel is looking for a bigger car that has towing capabilities. Nigel will be more than happy to answer any of your questions in the comments below.

Exterior

Elegantly styled with timeless curves, the XK8 is a well built 90's masterpiece.

Wheels and Tyres

The alloys on this example do exhibit curbing damage around the outer rim, and so would benefit from being refurbished.

The Goodyear tyres look in great condition with plenty of life left in them, receipt details for new tyres in the history section. Take a look at the exterior photos for a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this XK8 looks really good, all the panel gaps look true and correct around the car with no areas of concern.

Please take a look at the exterior videos and photographs for a closer look at the bodywork.

Paint

The silver paint looks good on this XK8, its a classic choice yet is timeless and pairs nicely with the cream leather interior.

As you would expect the paint is even in finish and colour across all panels. On the front bonnet, we noticed some minor areas of stone chips - inline with its age and mileage.

Please view the exterior images to really appreciate the paintwork on this car.

Glass and Trim

All the glass and chrome trim is in great condition, the glass looks clean and free from any major cracks, chips or scratches.

Please see the exterior footage where the entire car is captured.

Interior

With the burr walnut trim, this convertible gives you that classic Jaguar experience on the cabin.

Seats and Carpets

Cream leather seats, with the leather extending to wrap some other areas of the cabin too. The seats appear to have some minor creases and wear to the bolsters, yet have held their shape and look great today.

The carpet is clean and looks to have a deep pile to it. Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at this luxurious cabin space.

Dashboard

Nigel is a big fan of this famous "Spitfire Wing" dashboard in gorgeous walnut "it's just a lovely place to be". It looks in excellent condition.

The instrument cluster looks in great condition with all the dials and numbers clear and legible. Nigel reports all the buttons and gauges are working well on this luxury saloon with no issues to mention.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

We love the walnut veneer touches to the steering wheel, continuing on the theme and styling of the trim in the cabin.

It's also coupled with a walnut automatic gear selector which is also in excellent condition and inline with the age and mileage.

Mechanics

The car takes you to 60mph so swiftly without compromising the luxurious ride.

Engine and Gearbox

Being a later model this example is fitted with the desirable 4.2L V8 which offers 300BHP.

"The automatic gearbox is smooth as silk and can be switched from a relaxing normal mode into a much more active sport mode should one wish to show her heels to the more mundane traffic" reports Nigel

Nigel has had common O-rings fault attended to and they have been replaced.

Suspension and Brakes

Nigel reports a silky-smooth ride in the XK8 with no unusual noises reported from the suspension or brakes.

As you'd expect on a car of this age and the mileage it's covered, some advisories are present on the MOT in the shape of bushes/linkages etc.

The Drive

A car that will deliver a very fast ride if you desire while still maintaining it's class and grace. As Nigel reports he prefers to drive at a smoother more relaxed paced which offers great luxury and comfort.

Electrics and Other

As well as replacing the tyres Nigel has had a new battery fitted last December.

He does report the air conditioning may require a re-gas during its next service, or alternatively pop the roof down on a warm day. The previous owner has the hood mechanism overhauled and brakes replaced.

Nigel reports everything is working as it should. Please take a look at the interior, exterior, and mechanical photographs and videos for a full in-depth tour of the car.

History and Paperwork

Coming with its service book charting use and maintenance over time, this UK RHD is ready for the summer months.

Nigel purchased the car 2 years ago to start enjoying his retirement. The service history has been kept up to date with the most recent service being carried out on 31.10.2019. The previous owner had the hood mechanism overhauled.
