Get ready to arrive at any destination in style and speed - but this is not any XK, it's a low mileage, family owned since new pre-production model.

The second and final generation of XK (X150) debuted in 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, styled by Jaguar's chief designer Ian Callum. The grille was designed with a nod to the E-Type. The car was the first to feature a bonded and riveted aluminum chassis and body panels, therefore much lighter than its predecessor (91kg lighter to be precise).

The 2+2 cabin was praised by automotive journalists for being much roomier equipped with modern touches, along with a much-welcomed suspension upgrade that was a lot more sophisticated and really turned the XK into a proper luxurious drivers' car - on top of that, the brawny 4.2L is reported to be extremely reliable.

This example features a 4.2L AJ-V8 mated to a ZF auto to distribute the ~300BHP to the rear wheels. Finished in a beautiful Slate with Warm Charcoal interior, and in coupe form, this car is coming out of 5 years of ownership with just 40k miles.

Meet the owner

It's always a pleasure to get the XK out of the garage - sitting within the luxurious interior with the V8 purr in front is a real treat.

Duncan has owned this fast cat for the previous 5 years and loves using it occasionally on the weekends. When it's not being used, it's tucked away in a dry garage. He reports a silky smooth drive, with more than enough power whenever you want thanks to the large 4.2L V8 tucked under the hood.

Due to a lack of use, Duncan has decided to part with the XK and would like to see it being used and maintained by a like-minded enthusiast.

The car has been in Duncan's family since new, this XK was a demo model and is #117 of 350 pre-production cars. It's a full spec'd Portfolio model with a carbon finish interior and adaptive cruise control.

Exterior

Elegantly styled with timeless curves and subtle hints to the E-Type - one of Ian Callum's best.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with large 18" sporting alloys, the overall condition of the wheels is excellent. During our visit, we didn't notice any obvious areas of wear, tear or damage to note.

Each wheel is wrapped in premium Bridgestone Potenza - grippy rubber that suits the XK and offers precise handling. The tyres appear in great condition with a good amount of tread.

Bodywork

The body appears to be of a very high standard, with no major issues to point out. The panels look straight throughout, showing even panel gaps and a great fit.

We didn't observe any areas of concern on the visit, take a good look through the detailed media pack for a detailed view of each body panel.

Paint

Finished in an elegant and timeless 'Slate', the car really looks the part. The finish shows evidence of being well cared for, with no significant damage to the paint.

Across the bodywork, the paint has a very good lustre and finish, and doesn't pick up any obvious imperfections, the colour looking even across all the panels.

Please take a look at the detailed videos for a closer look at the exterior. When getting really close to the front bumper, we did notice the very occasional stone chip - in line with the age and mileage of the car.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks excellent, we didn't notice any chips, cracks or discolouration on our visit. The window seals and rubbers look good too and in line with the age and mileage of the car.

Interior

The cabin is a truley lovely place to be, with the highest quality materials everywhere you touch, and a modern driver-focused layout.

Seats and Carpets

A classy and timeless interior to match the exterior finished in 'Warm Charcoal'. We were impressed of the interior of this XK. Lashings of quality leather can be found within the cabin, and deep pile soft carpet lines the floor.

Both the passenger seat and rear seats look very good for the age of the XK, the driver's seat exhibits some minor wear in the form of very light creases to the seat bolsters.

The overall condition of the interior is great, with no heavy signs of aging.

Dashboard

The dashboard and instrument dials appear as you would expect, in excellent original condition.

A digital screen is fitted on the centre console - Duncan reports that the screens, dials, and gauges are working to his knowledge.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classy three-spoke Jaguar wheel is fitted, with plenty of buttons to play with - dials for the cruise control and radio.

The automatic gear stick is found on the center column, next to the bright red push start button, and is in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

Mechanics

A roaring 4.2L V8 bolted to a chassis that is 31% more rigid than the predecessor - a leap forward in power and performance.

Engine and Gearbox

This example features a 4.2L AJ-V8 engine mated to a ZF auto and produces 300BHP, impressive. We captured a mechanical video, the car starting from cold, and then settled and ticked over with no drama.

Suspension and Brakes

Visually the brake and suspension components appear to be in good condition throughout.

Duncan reports a very smooth journey in the XK, with the suspension offering a firm yet comfortable ride. He also reports there are no unusual knocks or noises, and mentions to brakes provide prompt stopping power.

The Drive

With 300BHP at your disposal, this car is not short on power. The upgraded suspension also helps turn this luxury coupe into a performance monster, with precision.

Duncan prefers a more tamed approach when it comes to using the car, and mentions it's an ideal gran tourer, perfect for long weekend trips away and round the continent.

Electrics and Other

All the electrical items on the car appear functional and fully working to Duncan's knowledge, the car had a last service earlier this year.

A very well-cared for XK V8, with great provenance and spec making it a favourable future modern classic investment.

When I checked it came back with the following result: You do not have to pay the ULEZ charge.

Hi nice looking XK. Any issues with the ‘duck bill’ air con drain pipe. Common problem with these models. Lifting the front footwell carpets, if damp, will reveal its blocked. Not an easy fix, as requires dash out to sort.
Take it the touch screen works as it should.
