Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

One of the most successful sports cars of all time - extremely attractive, cheap to run, and easily maintained.

The MG MGB first came about in 1962 and was produced until 1980, the soft-top sports car formula of the MGB stayed relatively simple throughout. A B-series engine produced 98BHP at 5400RPM, a big step up from its origins. The good looks, honest charm, and simple mechanics made it hugely successful, shortly becoming Britain's best-selling sports car. Not only are these cars incredibly fun to drive, they look great with their sleek and attractive body lines.

This MGB has been in the hands of Paul for the past ~1.5 years, he's thoroughly enjoyed ownership and getting this B out on the open roads with the roof down. Paul purchased the car restored and has enjoyed tinkering with it on weekends.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I love my classic cars, and this MGB always hits the sweet spot between fun and performance.

Paul loves how fun and practical this MGB can be, he's a huge classic fan, and although loves this MGB, he feels the least connected to it and is now on the hunt for something else. Paul originally purchased the car restored, by a previous owner - a huge MG fanatic. Take a look at the history and paperwork media pack for an extensive look at all the individual part receipts during the refurbishment.

Paul reports the car received a full service and tune-up when the car was restored, with a new alternator, clutch, master and slave cylinder, engine gaskets, K&N filters, water pump, timing chain, hoses, along with a gearbox overhaul.

Paul mentions he will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

A delightful bodyshape elegantly refined with eye-catching brightwork against the metallic blue coachwork.

Wheels and Tyres

During the refurb by the previous owner the car received new chrome wire wheels with spinners - all of which looked great on our visit.

The chrome wheels are all wrapped in Hifly HF201 dated 2018 and all showing a great amount of tread remaining. We like the addition of the rubber MG branded mud guards too. Take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

The bodywork looks generally good, with just a few areas which would benefit from a little attention.

Across the bodywork we did notice some areas of cracking and some localised bubbling around the car.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

The deep blue paintwork on this car looks good during our photo shoot.

The paintwork has good lustre and it is even in colour and finish across the car, just some minor stone chips and areas of bubbling - there's a bit of micro-blistering that's mainly on the top of the driver's door.

The images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks good and in line with the mileage. We didn't notice any discolouration. The window seals look good too and are in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The car is fitted with a brand new mohair roof and tonneau cover set, along with both indoor and outdoor covers.

Interior

The 'B' cockpit is a thrilling place to be - the design was so right and it changed very little over the years.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather seats with blue piping are in good condition. They are comfortable and provide support for longer drives.

Carpets tell a similar story covered by blue over mats in the front.

Please view the video review to see the cabin in full.

Dashboard

The dashboard and centre console present in good working order for its age and mileage. The switchgear presents in good condition with no reported issues from Paul.

The dials are legible with no glass or binnacle damage.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Paul has switched the steering wheel back to an MG classic three spoke with a leather wrap.

Both the steering wheel and gear stick appear to be in good condition; ready to be enjoyed this summer.

Mechanics

Aerodynamically efficient body lines made the most of the 95bhp available via the trusty and easy-to-maintain 'B-Series' engine.

Engine and Gearbox

Paul reports the car received a full service and tune-up when it was restored, with a new alternator, clutch, master and slave cylinder, engine gaskets, K&N filters, water pump, timing chain, hoses, along with a gearbox overhaul.

We've captured a detailed mechanical video that shows the car out on the road and a view around the engine bay.

Please take a look at the detailed media pack to see a closer view of the clean engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

Paul reports the car has seen a few modifications with the previous restoration; MHOC front suspension overhaul kit fitted, new kingpins, and front stub azles.

The Drive

One of the UK's most popular classics for all the right reasons, the most important one being the wind-through-hair motoring thrills the car offers.

Please take time to review the On the Road video to see the car out on a short drive.

Electrics and Other

Paul has reported that the electrical system is in line with the rest of the condition of the car, i.e. in full working order to his knowledge.

Paul has also fitted a new classic '60s style radio into the cabin during his ownership.

History and Paperwork

An attractive MGB Roadster presented in blue with elevating chrome work that will appeal to those in the market for a ready-to-enjoy classic.

The car comes with a great amount of provenance over its lifetime. Take a look at the history files in the media pack for an extremely detailed view of the work carried out and replacement parts that have been fitted, along with the spares the car is also sold with.

Paul will be happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
