Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

Powered by a large 3.0L straight-six in the front - the MGC is the 'B's' brawny sibling.

The MGC was touted as BMC's replacement for the Austin-Healey 3000, a big 2.9L six-cylinder engine upfront in the ever-popular MGB set-up. The power and torque figures were more than adequate for the GT's potential upmarket ambitions. The car is offered with a 2.9L 6-cylinder block producing 145bhp an a 0-60mph speed of 10 seconds.

Simon has been the proud owner of the GTC for the previous 12 years. Over that time he's thoroughly enjoyed touring in the classic MG during the summer. He's always enjoyed a classic MG for its simple reliability and the great value these cars offer.

If you're in the market for a usable great looking British classic, then this is the car for you.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Simon the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've loved using this car over the last 12 years, it never fails to make any journey extremely enjoyable.

Simon has always been an MG fan, owning multiple MG Midgets throughout his early adult life, he loves the practical and reliable motoring the MG's have offered. 12 years ago Simon had the chance to purchase this MGC and said the previous owner was a thorough MG enthusiast and had the car professionally converted from LHD to RHD spec.

Simon has enjoyed using the car on the weekends, with his children, however, he is now on the hunt for a modern performance car for more regular use, and so the MGC comes to auction with us. He'll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

Finished in British Racing Green, over its iconic bubble arches - it's a real head-turner.

Wheels and Tyres

Matching the original factory spec, the car is fitted with 15" wire wheels with spinners. The wheels look in very good condition, however, a deep clean and polish would elevate them even more.

The wheels are fitted with Pirelli P600's dated 2005, and one Michelin MXL on the rear nearside wheel. The wheels appear in good condition with a good amount of tread.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this MGC with regards the panel gaps around the car, look to align well. We noticed some slight areas of bubbling to the paintwork and body work around the lower sections of the car.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in a fitting British Racing Green, the paint appeared in good condition on our visit, considering the age of the car, there is a few areas of age-related marks across the bodywork. We did notice some patches of bubbling, this example would be a great usable example with areas to cosmetically touch up and improve over time - and has been reflected in the lower reserve price.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks great and in line with the mileage and ownership, we didn't notice any major chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

Interior

A very comfortable place to be, the ideal cabin for any grand tour.

Seats and Carpets

Simon reports MGB black leather seats with red pipping have been fitted within this MGC, they provide a comfortable place to sit on long journeys and appear in great condition with no signs of major wear.

Black carpets are fitted and present in great condition throughout.

Dashboard

An original MG dashboard, everything looks crisp and legible. A simple speed / tachometer extends beyond to the fuel tank and pressure gauges.

Having been regularly cleaned and serviced throughout Simon's ownership everything looks good here and is reported to be in good working order.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A new wood-lined Moto-lita wheel was installed during the RHD conversion. Both the steering wheel and gear stick appear in great condition throughout, inline with the rest of the interior.

Mechanics

Packing quite the punch with its twin-carb engine, the 3.0L straight-six offers smooth driving and a glorious soundtrack on any journey.

Engine and Gearbox

BMC C series 2912cc 6 cylinder inline engine produced 145hp in its day. We started up the car in our usual video and noticed a clean-sounding engine.

Please watch the "On the Road" video to see the car being started from cold, then run when up to temperature. On our short trip out, Simon operated the gears and overdrive with ease.

Suspension and Brakes

Simon reports regular maintenance on this example has been carried out throughout his ownership and when required, ensuring that everything works as expected.

The Drive

Simon loves the smooth touring the MGC GT offers, the coupe gives the driver a quieter cabin space while offering great practical load space. Finished in British Racing Green the car looks great on any road and any occasion.

Electrics and Other

Simon assures us all the electrics within the car are working as intended. Please take a look at the photographs and videos for a detailed tour around and inside.

History and Paperwork

Professionally converted to RHD, this US-exported MGC has returned home ready to be loved and enjoyed up and down countryside B-roads.

This car is coming out of 12 years of ownership with Simon. Take a look at the media to see all the history included within the sale of the car, including the MOT reports and Hertitage certificates. If you're in the market for a British classic to enjoy all year round, or a small cosmetic project over winter, then this is the example for you.

The car comes with its British motor industry heritage trust certificate, stating the car was manufactured for North American Export, originally LHD, manufactured on the 07.05.1969, equipped from factory with wire wheels, overdrive, heater, cigar lighter, and an anti-roll bar.

Simon will be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the car in the comments below.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.
