Mike is a driver, engineer, petrol head and Porsche guy – he’s just like us here at Trade Classics. Mike bought the car three years ago and has brought it up to the standard you see here today. Please take time to watch the ‘Meet the Owner’ video to see Mike’s passion for Porsche and this particular car – there’s not much he doesn’t know about these cars.
Mike took me out in it to film our usual ‘On the Road’ video (see below) and I was surprised just how fast and poised this 50+ year old car is. Mike is a ‘spirited’ driver and I thoroughly enjoyed being blasted through the Oxfordshire countryside. The car has its original engine and has been upgraded to 2.2l with an ‘S’ spec cam – this really makes a difference and feels incredibly lively.
Mike will be sad to see the car he’s restored go, but he’s used and enjoyed it for three years and it’s now time to start a new project.
There’s no doubt about it, this car looks stunning in Sky Blue and is a real credit to the hours Mike has put into the build of this car. Wheels & Tyres
The car is fitted with excellent condition Fuchs and wrapped in a fresh set of 185/70/VR15 tyres – please take a look at the images to see the full condition.
As you would expect, the car looks excellent in terms of both rust and rot upon our usual visual inspection – I didn’t see any signs of either. Please check out the images and videos to see the detailed condition of each body panel. In 2016 significant metalwork restoration was undertaken including new and correctly backdated floorpan, lower sills and rear suspension mount repair.
The Sky Blue paint is absolutely stunning and fresh and looks eye-popping against the chrome. The paint is in excellent condition – it’s even across the panels and I didn’t notice any colour differences. In 2017 the car underwent a full underfloor, interior, underbonnet and wheel arch bare metal strip and zinc phosphate anti-rust treatment, and body exterior re-paint in 2K epoxy primer plus 4 coats 2K PPG paint, colour-matched to the existing Sky-Blue paint colour.
Glass and Trim
Both are in excellent condition across the car.
The interior is really beautiful – it’s been restored perfectly and a credit to the restoration. In the ‘On the Road’ video you’ll hear Mike talk about how he restored the seats – he’s used all original materials where he can, and even used horse hair to get the same feel and importantly, smell. The interior was subsequently restored with new driver and passenger footboards, re-trimmed headlining, insulation, door cards, quarter-panels and tan feintuft velour carpet set. The car has new rubber seals all round: front and rear windows; outer door top trim; door 1/4 windows; main door seals; bonnet aperture; bumper seals and opening rear windows.
Seats and Carpets
Both the seats and carpets are in great condition – the restoration has been very meticulous and preserved the patina of the original materials. There are pictures in the media pack of the front foot well carpets being lifted too. Driver and passenger seats have been restored with replacement original wadding and trim, and refurbishment of the existing vinyl wherever possible. Restored 1968 Hickok 3-point fixed front seatbelts and rear belts have been fitted too.
The gauges and interior are in very good condition, as can be seen in the media file. Mike has left the gauges alone, i.e. not choosing to refinish them – this is absolutely the right decision as they reflect the car’s past over the last fifty years.
Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
Both are in excellent condition with no issues.
As mentioned, Mike took me out for a short drive on some back roads around Oxfordshire – I was seriously impressed with this 911T. It’s lively, agile and quick. It felt good and strong and I really enjoyed the experience – this car brings a big grin to the driver and occupants.
Engine and Gearbox
The car started first go from cold – (see the cold start video). The engine soon settled into a smooth tick over. The engine was rebuilt during its time in Hawaii, and has been upgraded with Arius high compression pistons, 2.2L barrels and ‘S’-spec cams. Carburettors, distributor, brake system and shift mechanism have been rebuilt. Driveshafts have also all been rebuilt and a new stainless-steel silencer has been fitted.
Suspension and Brakes
There were no knocks or rattles on the drive out. Please watch the video to see the car accelerating, steering and stopping. It preformed just as you’d expect it – a credit to the high quality restoration that was actioned. An ‘S’-spec rear anti-roll bar has also been fitted and wheel bearings and suspension bushes have been replaced.
The car really drives great. Mike has set up the car for his particular driving style – please see the geometry output in the images below to see all the settings Mike has chosen. There were no issues detected on the drive.
Electrics and Other
There are hardly any electrics on the car, however, Mike informs us the basics all work as they should. Also, headlamp assembly, front sidelights, tail light assembly, heater system has been rebuilt. Importantly the headlights have been rebuilt with high intensity LED beams and updated reflectors installed in the original housings, so the lights still give an original appearance but are far brighter than standard; very useful in night-time conditions amongst other cars with modern lighting systems.
This car was first registered in Germany and was sold by dealers Hülpert & Co. The car spent its early life with its first owner in Germany through the 1970’s, then it was purchased by a new owner and exported to Hawaii in 1980, where it was repainted from its original Bahama Yellow to the stunning Sky Blue.
The second owner enjoyed the car for 35 years from 1980 through to 2015, where it was purchased by an enthusiast in San Francisco who commenced some initial recommissioning work. In 2016 Mike purchased the car from San Francisco and imported it into the UK for a more thorough restoration.

If you’re a driver that simply loves to drive and you want arguably one of the best classic drivers’ cars, then this surely has to be a contender. You’ll benefit from a proper SWB car with matching numbers together with important engine upgrades that give the car an edge of the ‘S’ without the massive price tag.
Although I’ve not driven the car myself, I can see just how good this car is to drive by the experience I went through as a passenger, and the sheer joy on Mike’s face as he showed me what the car can do – and boy can it ‘do’!
Mike has priced this car very competitively as he knows the market and is hungry to start work on his next project.
