Recent Buyer Review – Eamonn McParland on 11th May “From my first general enquiry through to the purchase of my very own MGA, Adam and the team at Trade Classics were quite simply, awesome. I fully recommend Trade Classics without hesitation nor reservation to everyone who is seeking a classic car. A brilliant business model, supported by a really neat and usable website though ultimately managed by a great group of professional, sincere and trustworthy people”. As the owner of this 964 for the last 14 years, Tom had always wanted a 911, and took the opportunity to get this one when he had a change of work.
His first Porsche was actually a 944, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Tom used this 911 as his ‘daily driver’ in the early period of his ownership. In more recent times, it tends to stay in a secure and dry lock-up – so not getting much use unfortunately.
Tom has always has a big passion for Porsche, and Land Rovers too, both marques having models that he finds easy to work on himself – adding to the attraction.
Unfortunately, personal circumstances have meant that Tom now needs to sell this car to free up some capital, and so this example will now go to a new home. Tom’s own words being ”It’s a car I never thought I would sell”.
Finished in the Porsche colour of ‘Cobalt Blue’, this 964 looks just the part, with the big colour coded bumpers which came with the new style in the early 1990’s.
Wheels & Tyres
Sitting on Porsche Cup 1 wheels, and wrapped in 17” tyres across the car. The wheels are in good condition, just the front nearside wheel has suffered a bit of curbing. Please take a look at the photos for the detail.
The bodywork on the car looks good, shut-lines and panel gaps all very even. The car at some point must have had a new windscreen, and sadly suffers from rust around the edge as a result of a bad seal. We didn’t observe any other rust on the car, and the only other element of note is some parking damage to the rear offside bumper. Please watch the extensive video review and images to see the detail.
Cobalt Blue Porsche paint across the car, even in colour and finish. With the age and mileage of the car, there is some light ‘road rash’ on the front, and a parking scratch on the front offside bumper. We’re being picky as usual, however, overall it looks great as you’ll see in the images and videos.
Glass and Trim
Glass, trim and importantly the soft-top roof look good across the car. Take a look at the review photos we took on our visit to the car.
Finished in double leather trim, the cabin is actually the same colour combo as my 3.2! A place I feel at home in.
Seats and Carpets
Cream leather with blue piping, blue carpets, and blue leather trim in the cabin. The interior presents in really good condition. There is some cracking in the leather seats which is in-line with the age of the car, something that could potentially be treated. The carpets looked good, view the video for the detail.
A very clean leather wrapped dash, we didn’t observe any wear. The dials looked great, very vivid and black. Again, please take a look at the images below.
Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
The 3 spoke leather wrapped steering wheel presented in good condition. The automatic gear stick had some wear on the leather, along with the same wear on the hand brake lever. You can see these elements in detail on the video review.
Tom took me on a quick blast in the 911, on to a dual carriageway and through some local residential streets to test the car.
Engine and Gearbox
The car started from cold without issue, no smoke observed from the exhaust etc. On the drive it performed without fault too, and we put the Tiptronic gearbox through its paces, changing up and down at a variety of speeds for us. Please watch the video to see it in action.
Suspension and Brakes
On our drive out, we didn’t observe any untoward noises from the brakes or the suspension.
A fast drive along a dual carriageway, and some cruising at lower speeds in the local area, the car took us along without issue.
Electrics and Other
Tom informs us that everything on the car works as it should do.
A host of invoices, service stamps and MOT’s come along with this car to track its history. Although the V5 document says 11 previous owners, 2 of these are Tom and his partner changing the details amongst themselves.
The car is showing just over 82,800 miles as of 17.07.2019.
HPi Check Results
– The seller tells us the car is HPi clear and will be supported by our own HPi check.
The 964 came with some styling updates, and a much larger engine size than the G-body series of cars before it. But that tell-tale 911 lineage is still there, you can really tell how the car is an evolution rather than a revolution of the cars before it.
This example is with its rear-wheel drive configuration, and flat 6 howl made all the more audible with the roof down, present a great way in to air-cooled 911 ownership. The new owner of this car is sure to get smiles for miles with it.
