Recent Buyer Review – Simon Welsh on 1st May “Found my ideal 90’s sports car on Trade Classics. Living in Bournemouth and the car being in the Midlands I relied heavily on the advert, photos and videos.

On picking the car up I wasn’t disappointed. Everything was as it had been described. So I got straight into it and drove home. What a drive put a smile on my face.

Thanks very much Trade Classics and I’m now looking out for my next classic to add to the collection.”.

THE CAR & RICHARD

As mentioned, Richard has owned this lovely little Junior for over 35 years, and will be really sad to see it go. However, these days Richard doesn’t get much time to drive the car and it’s only done about 10k miles in the last 30 years – so he’s keen to find the car a new home.

Richard played a big part in the car’s restoration around 30 years ago, and it had a lot of money and time spent on it back then. For example, Richard had the car bare metal resprayed and in more recent times, about 6 years ago, he replaced other key areas like the sills and floor pans.

EXTERIOR

This Junior is finished in white and presents itself in good usable condition – please see all the images and videos to see the condition.

Wheels & Tyres
The car is sitting on the original steel wheels with hubcaps – please take a look at the images and video.

Bodywork
The bodywork on this car was last restored over 30 years again, and whilst not in excellent condition, nothing is hidden and you can see the exact state of the panels. There are some signs of bubbling on the door skins and would be beneficial to change in the near future. The boot panel could also do with some remedial attention. Richard has actioned the important jobs like new sills and floor pans over the last few years. The remaining jobs could be an easy repair for a home mechanic.

Paint
You can see the paintwork is subject to an older restoration and slightly matted now. However, it is quite even and consistent across the car, although you will see some signs of blistering and chips that are consistent with the age of the restoration.

Glass and Trim
All the glass and trim is in good condition – please see the images and videos to review the condition.

INTERIOR

Finished predominantly in black it does look a great contrast against the white.

Seats and Carpets
The seats and carpets are in good condition – please watch the video to see the detail.

Dashboard
The car has its original dash and there are a few cracks on the top that can be seen in the images – the gauges and fascia is all in good condition.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
The original steering wheel and gear stick are still in place and they look good – please review the images for a close look at the condition.

MECHANICS

Richard took me out on a quick drive around the local area, where we could take a few pictures and more importantly, test the car out.

Engine and Gearbox
The engine stated from cold with no issues – both engine and gearbox performed well on the drive. Richard tells us he also rebuilt the engine in the past and replaced the crank too – it hasn’t done many miles since. Richard also said you have to ‘tickle’ it into first gear sometimes, but this is usual and once you know what do do then it’s not an issue. Please see the video of Richard changing gears on the trip.

Suspension and Brakes
The car performed just as expected – no issue noted on our drive.

The Drive
We stuck mainly to the local area, but we were still able to get a sense of the acceleration.

Electrics and Other
Richard informs us everything is working as it should on the car.

HISTORY

The car comes with an extensive history file of previous MOT’s and receipts that help substantiate the mileage – all of which are included in the images below.

The car is showing just over 94,587 miles as of 11.08.2019.

HPi Check Results
– Richard assures us the car is HPi clear – our own check is in progress.

OUR SUMMARY

Alfa Romeo GT’s are very popular right now – that’s because they are a drivers’ car first, and secondly they look just so beautiful.

The revvy / raspy engines are simply superb and I had first hand experience driving a 1974 2000 GTV to Italy a few months ago. These cars really do get a hold of you and they are amazing to drive.

When buying a used classic car it’s always good to buy from a genuine owner that knows the car inside out and has owned it for many years – this is the case with this little car. Richard has also put an MOT on the car; even though it doesn’t need one now. It’s for his own peace of mind and to show his confidence in the car.

Also, buying a genuine and original car is a wise choice in today’s classic car market. Richard tells us the only change from factory is the addition of rear seat belts.

On a final note, Richard has been very sensible with the pricing and this car is going to be a great bargain for someone. It can either be used and enjoyed as it is / improve over time, or go all out and make it into something special whilst protecting your investment.
