AUCTION CLOSED

This car didn’t meet its reserve price at auction.

The 205 is regarded as one of the best hatchbacks ever made. Most classic car enthusiasts grew up wanting one of these or possibly getting it as their first car as they are a light, nimble and quick. This is a hot hatchback that will give you so much pleasure – Shazeb, the owner has done a lot of work on it so it is ready to drive away.

If you have any questions you’d like to ask Shazeb (the owner) then please click here to send him a message – Shazeb will get back to you asap.

We can help arrange transportation for our sales, delivering anywhere in the UK or mainland Europe – please see happy customers in our reviews that we’ve helped.

Recent Buyer Review – Simon Welsh on 1st May “Found my ideal 90’s sports car on Trade Classics. Living in Bournemouth and the car being in the Midlands I relied heavily on the advert, photos and videos.

On picking the car up I wasn’t disappointed. Everything was as it had been described. So I got straight into it and drove home. What a drive put a smile on my face.

Thanks very much Trade Classics and I’m now looking out for my next classic to add to the collection.”.

THE CAR & SHAZEB

Shazeb is a car mechanic from Walsall – he is extremely passionate about cars and has owned this car for a few years. His brother and himself have owned it for the last few years and have restored it as a 1.9 replica – what a great project.

Please watch our ‘Meet the Owner’ video as Shazeb talks about what he has done to the car and why he is looking to sell.

Like Shazeb said in the video, this car needs to be loved, he has done the required work to be in a condition to drive away and is desperate to see it on the road again with an owner who has a passion for these hot-hatchbacks.

EXTERIOR

This hot-hatch is looking stunning with this coat of red. On top of this Shazeb has restored parts like the wheels which look super clean upon our visit. This particular example comes with a sun roof that will be perfect for those drives when the sun is out. There is no alarming rot or rust on the paint and bodywork. Please see all the photos and videos and look at the clean condition of the exterior for yourself.

Wheels & Tyres
The 205 is fitted with a fresh set of 185/55/15 tyres. As mentioned the wheels have been cleaned to look in excellent condition.

Bodywork
Upon our visit we were really happy with the condition of the vehicle’s bodywork. The exterior has 1.9 decal along the rear offside and nearside panel.

Paint
The paintwork looks great – the original red is still beaming all these years on. The only defect is a small scratch on the rear end.

Glass and Trim
Glass is in excellent condition. We recommend that the new owner replaces the trim to better the overall condition of the car.

INTERIOR

As the GTi got a facelift in the late eighties, it became less rattle-prone. Like with any hot hatchback you expect to get into the driver’s seat and benefit from a sporty natured experience – you get exactly that with this example.

Seats and Carpets
These seats are in a fair condition you would expect from a mileage of this kind – the drivers seat is showing cracks but the stitching is looking tight. All other seats are in a good condition in line with the cars mileage whilst the restored carpets are looking really clean with no signs of wear.

Dashboard
The gauges and interior are in very good condition, as can be seen in the media file. The gauges are clean and work as expected.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
GTi centrepiece on the steering looks tidy – overall in excellent condition. Gear stick is in expected condition of the cars mileage. Please see all the photos and the ‘interior review’ video.

MECHANICS

As mentioned previously this is a 1.9 replica, originally being a 1.6L GTi – Please watch the ‘On the Road’ video to gain a full perspective of the driving experience. Shazeb’s father took us round the local area of Walsall.

Engine and Gearbox
The car started first go from cold – Kulraj states the engine was slightly warm due to it being moved out of the garage, however we witnessed this take place off-camera. Despite being the lesser of the 205 engines it still sounding tidy with lots of life and looks to have been cleaned well by the owner. On our drive out we noticed the gear changes were a little harsh as well as the clutch pedal not having too much travel.

Suspension and Brakes
There was a slight rattle in the interior of the car – as you expect from all 205 models. Shazeb has changed the damaged disc, pads and two rear shock absorbers.

The Drive
The car looks like a lot of fun to drive in. Weighing around 900kg it feels quick and nimble – this hatchback really is the complete package. Kulraj felt comfortable in the passenger seat with no cause for concern.

Electrics and Other
The electrics all work as expected along with all buttons and switches being great condition. This hatch is ready to drive and enjoy.

HISTORY

This car was bought into Shazeb’s garage around four years ago and was bought at a highly discounted price due to its poor condition. Since then, Shazeb has bought life back into the car by restoring many parts of it.

There is a limited history but we at Trade Classics as well as Shazeb will be willing to help the potential new owner in any way to feel comfortable in the purchasing process.

OUR SUMMARY

This hot-hatch is in demand as much as ever with some mint examples fetching as much as £40k. We know this example has some imperfections such as being a replica 1.9 and not being totally original – but that will take nothing away from the unrivalled fun and joy you will be able to get out of this.

We want the new owner to take this to town and show it off everywhere – passers by will ponder, ‘I remember when I used to have one!” or, “Dad, how long ago was that made?”, the questions that get asked about this car are endless, and make it that more desirable.

Shazeb has priced this car very competitively as he understands the top end of the market is looking for originality.
