The Morgan Plus 4 is a more powerful and larger model than the earlier 4/4 model. It was in production from 1950 to 1969 and was revived in 1985 until 2000 when the Plus 8 was introduced. Over the years, Morgan made several improvements to the Plus 4, with one of the most significant changes being the introduction of Rover's punchy 140 BHP T16 2.0L engine and the firm's five-speed gearbox in 1992.

This particular Plus 4 is finished in "Dark Maroon" with a "Stone" leather interior and a walnut dashboard. It comes with a host of factory-specified options and a detailed maintenance history, and comes to market from ~2 year ownership with just 2 former keepers registered.

Exterior

Sweeping curves, the design on the Morgan is iconic and instantly recognisable.

Wheels and Tyres

The wire wheels, finished in silver with chrome knock-offs, lend a lot of character to this Morgan. On this particular example, the wheels seem well-maintained, showing no obvious damage to any of the spokes from our observation.

The wheels are shod in Michelin Energy Saver tyres, which also seem to be in great condition. They are dated from 2010, with a substantial amount of tread remaining, and no visible cracking or signs of age on the sidewalls.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Morgan appears to be in great condition, with all the panel gaps around the car aligning very well. During our visit, we didn't spot any obvious dings along the flanks of the car. However, we did notice a chip in the paint of the offside front arch.

Paint

Finished in "Dark Maroon" (code 2083), the paintwork is of a high standard, displaying even coverage and a consistent colour across each panel. While we did observe the occasional very small and minor stone chip at the front of the car, these are hardly noticeable without a close inspection. Additionally, we noticed a slight area of wear in the door jam, which is captured in the photos and videos below.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this Plus 4 appears to be in great condition and is consistent with the car's mileage and ownership history. During our visit, we didn't observe any chips, cracks, or discolouration. The window seals also appear to be in good condition, matching the overall condition of the car.

Furthermore, the silver bumpers, chrome grille, door handles, and window surrounds all seem to be in good condition. For a closer look, please refer to the exterior photos, which also showcase the tonneau cover and convertible hood in great condition without any tears or rips. It's worth noting that Rod rarely drives the car with the hood on, typically choosing to do so in dry weather.

Interior

Lavishly finished in Stone leather with wood burl trim throughout, the +4 continues the vintage styling.

Seats and Carpets

The "Stone" coloured leather seats with dark maroon piping have maintained their shape well over the years. The only signs of age on the seats are some minor creases in the leather, typical for leather that has aged gracefully.

Dashboard

The dashboard features a dark gloss wood finish and showcases six black gauges in front of the driver.

On this Plus 4, the dashboard exhibits no significant damage or scuffs. There were no warning lights displayed, and the odometer read ~74,005 miles during our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A detachable Morgan steering wheel with a wooden grip is fitted. It is in great condition, in line with the mileage of this car, and the wooden alloy gearstick also appears to be in good shape. For a closer look, please refer to the image gallery to see the details.

Mechanics

Engine and Gearbox

The Morgan +4 went through several engine changes over the years. However, this 1993 example is equipped with the 2.0L Rover engine and has only accumulated ~74,005 miles on the odometer.

We have a video of the +4's cold start, which can be viewed in the mechanical video section. The car started with ease and without any issues noted.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension seems to be in good condition and offered a comfortable and smooth ride on the winding Devonshire roads.

During our short drive in the car, it behaved just as you would expect from a Morgan of this era, coming to a stop without any issues as well.

The Drive

The Plus 4 provides an extremely fun and enjoyable driving experience. Rod has thoroughly enjoyed using the car for short road trips around his hometown on sunny weekends.

The Morgan started without any issues on the first attempt. On the road with Rod, the car felt responsive, exhibiting ample power to propel it along the road and through sweeping corners. We didn't detect any unusual noises emanating from the engine or suspension.

Electrics and Other

Although we didn't test all the electrics during our visit, Rod reports that, to the best of his knowledge, all of the electrical components are functional and operational, consistent with the overall condition of the car.

The car comes with a comprehensive history file that dates back to its production in 1993, it's still in its factor spec and comes to market from ~2 year ownership with just 2 former keepers.
