This may look like a brightly coloured 1972 Mini, but something quite special lies under the bonnet of this British classic.

As everyone knows, from day one, the Mini was a huge success with 5.4 million cars sold over its 41-year production life, and it still remains the best-selling British car of all time.

This Austin Mini 1000 was initially manufactured in 1972 and was purchased by the previous keeper in 2005. He saw the Mini's potential and planned to take this classic to the next level, which has been completed to a very high standard. The work has seen the Mini being fully restored and more, with the addition a Morespeed 1,293cc Turbo challenge engine.

Quite a move from the original 998cc engine the Mini left the factory with, but what an improvement! Completed in 2008, the car has mainly been used for shows and has covered just ~3,448 miles since then.

Fast forward to present day, the Mini comes to market after ~10 months with current owner Stephen, who won the car in a competition.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Stephen the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I fist saw the name of the car, Buster - this was my dog's name, which is why I entered the competition.

Stephen entered the Mini competition after seeing its name and having owned a Mini several years ago, he thought he would give it a go.

With an hour to go and not really thinking much about it, Stephen bought the ticket, and a couple of hours later, a phone call was received saying he had won the car.

Stephen told us, “The car is fantastic, but despite owning it for ten months, it simply isn’t getting the use it deserves”.

sold their Morris with us.

With Supersport arches, chrome wheels and bright Tangelo Pearl paint, the Mini certainly stands out from the crowd.

Wheels and Tyres

Chrome Superlite wheels are in excellent condition with no signs of tarnishing. The tyres are a matching set of Continental 195/45/R13, with a good amount of tread remaining.

Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

During the restoration, the Mini received two doors, two inner and outer sills, two door steps, two wings, a bonnet, two A panels, a front panel, flitch repair panels, two quarter panels, a boot floor, a windscreen surround including a scuttle, a top dash rail, a rear valance, and rear subframe mounts. As you can see from the list, this was an extensive restoration.

The body is in excellent condition with equal panel gaps, and no dings or dents were spotted when we looked around the car. The Supersport wheel arches sit tightly against the body.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Finished in House of Kolor Tangelo Pearl paint, which is in excellent condition. Looking around the car, there are no noticeable stone chips to mention; the only thing we did spot is a small amount of lacquer, which has cracked on each side where the wings meet the scuttle.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows appear free from any noticeable scratches, and the seals are in good condition with no perishing.

All of the chrome work has a bright finish with no tarnishing.

The grille has been modified to accept the large intercooler giving away this is no ordinary Mini.

The upgraded front and rear lights are free from any damage.

Full cream leather and a seven-point roll cage provides plenty of comfort and safety.

Seats and Carpets

Escort RS Turbo Recaro front seats have been installed and trimmed in cream leather and finished with orange stitching. The front and rear seats are in excellent condition with minimal signs of use.

A complete set of blue carpets has been fitted throughout and are in excellent condition. The headlining has been trimmed in blue Alcantara material and fits nicely against the roof.

The boot area is trimmed with the same blue carpet as in the cabin and houses a chrome spare wheel and an amplifier for the audio.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

The fibreglass dashboard has been sculpted to give it a more modern look than the original Mini dash. It was then trimmed in cream leather with orange stitching to match the seats.

All instruments have been replaced with Splitfire gauges, and the odometer shows a reading of 3,448 miles. One instrument that stands out is the dash-mounted rev counter, which also has a shift light for a perfectly timed gear change.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A blue and black leather steering wheel is fitted and is in good condition, showing no signs of excessive use.

The KAD alloy gear knob is also in good order, with no noticeable scratches to the surface.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Moving a long way from the original 998cc engine - the Mini is now fitted with a 1,293cc turbocharged power plant.

Engine and Gearbox

The 1,293cc engine features forged Omega pistons and has been fully balanced. Fuelling is handled with a Metro Turbo SU carburettor with an updated needle and spring. There is a standard Metro Turbo manifold and Metro Turbo exhaust manifold coupled to a Miniflow 2” turbo downpipe and exhaust, an Avonbar actuator and dumpvalve.

A Flamethrower ignition coil, Magnecor HT leads, and NGK spark plugs provide the spark, which is all mapped together with a Polestar mappable ignition system. A six-blade metal cooling fan keeps everything cool, along with a Pacet electric fan mounted in the inner wing. There is a 13-row oil cooler, and Speedflow braided oil pipes, which help keep the oil cool, while the huge grille-mounted intercooler cools the air.

The straight-cut gearbox has a close ratio-gear set, an AP Racing paddle plate clutch and a KAD quick-shift and is held in place with twin heavy-duty gearbox steadies.

Suspension and Brakes

The front subframe on the Mini has been fully seam welded to provide extra rigidity, and the Spax dampers are fully adjustable, allowing you to set them up to suit your driving style. New rubber cones have been fitted, and the car now uses Mini Sport 1.5-degree negative camber bottom arms. The rear has negative camber brackets and Deflex poly bushes.

EBC 8.4-inch drilled, and grooved discs and Metro four-pot callipers with EBC Green Stuff pads bring the turbocharged Mini to a stop. The rear has Superfin alloy drums, standard shoes, and cylinders. A Girling remote servo has been used with Kunifer solid pipes and Goodridge braided pipes.

The Drive

On the road, the Mini is fantastic fun and being so bright, it obviously turns lots of heads.

The engine sounds excellent, with the typical Mini sound from the straight-cut transmission. You can’t help but smile when you change gear on boost as the dump valve blows off.

It handles superbly, with a firm ride, as you would expect.

Electrics and Other

The car has been rewired with new switches added and these are all working correctly.

Not that you need it because the sound of the engine and dump valve are enough, but there is a full audio system with a Centurions DVD player head-unit which has a 7.5” fold-out screen, dash-mounted 4” speakers, rear shelf 6” x 9” and 6” x 4” speakers under the rear seat all powered by a boot-mounted amplifier.

History and Paperwork

An impressive history file comes with the Mini, showing an excellent and well-executed build.

Invoices included with the Mini are substantial, covering many of the parts purchased to build this fantastic Mini. Several dyno reports show the car has been set up correctly to ensure optimal performance from the 1,293cc turbocharged engine.

Stephen recently had the car worked on by a Mini specialist, who checked over it and made some tweaks. This unique build is perfect for anyone wanting to own a classic Mini with that little bit extra.

We've done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5, and also actioned an HPI check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above. However, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail. This has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa, and take your time to review everything on this listing to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi ….is it just lacquer peeling around the scuttle there or is it rust coming through …. and is that cooler on the front held on with zip ties?…. dose it run well up through the revs as he seemed to really nurse it in the vid barely went above 2 or 3 thousand revs …..

Can the roll bar be easily removed?
For a road car does it really need the gearbox changed from straight cut?

All photo’s show bonnet up at hinges, is this the fully closed position?
