The best of the 944s, the S2 has the robust 3.0-litre engine, revised transmission and wide styling, resulting in one very attractive package.

The 944 was first announced in '82, it was a new front-engine, rear-wheel-drive mid-level sports car based on the 924. Later in '89 Porsche introduced the S2 which had the same rounded nose and a rear valance found on the Turbo model, and featured the largest production 4-cylinder engine available at the time. A new gearbox was fitted to utilise the ~208BHP on offer, in manual its a proper drivers' car.

Mike bought this lovely India Red 944 S2 back in 2001, and since has enjoyed the car on weekends and the occasional journey on holiday. However, due to recently purchasing a caravan and enjoying the camping lifestyle, this 944 has been tucked away in his garage for the last few years.

Mike has made the tough decision to sell and is ready to let it go to a like-minded Porsche enthusiast enjoy.

I've thoroughly loved owning this Porsche 94 S2, its good looks and handling make it a dream to own and drive.

Mike is a petrolhead at heart and has thoroughly enjoyed ownership of this late 944 S2, and over his ~22 year ownership he has covered ~17,000 miles, reserving the car for special weekend getaways which is reflected in the condition of the car today.

Mike was very particular when selecting the right 944, this example fitted his requirements and is finished in linen colour interior with India Red paintwork.

Exterior

Gracefully styled and improved over the standard 944, the S2 received its desirable bodywork from the Turbo.

Wheels and Tyres

The 'Design 90' wheels look in very good condition and when we photographed the car we only noticed some very minor marks; when you get really close.

The wheels are fitted with Continental tyres on the front dated 1998 and Hankook on the rear dated 2000 - whilst of course old, these do appear to also be in good condition due to the way Mike has stored the car in his garage, with no obvious cracking.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this 944 S2 looks in great condition, with all the panel gaps around the car looking to visually align very well. During our visit we didn't spot any obvious signs of corrosion on the car either, just a small sign of bubbling on the front drivers side wing and some light surface corrosion on the drivers sill. Upon close inspection we noticed some very light pin dents to the rear boot too, however you'll have to get really close to notice these.

Paint

Presented in this lovely "India Red" (LM3A) colour, the paint is finished to a lovely standard, with even coverage and colour across each panel.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this 944 S2 example looks good and in line with the rest of the car - we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit.

The window seals look good and in line with the rest of the condition of the car along with the cabriolet roof and rear screen.

The bumpers, door handles, and window surrounds all look in good condition too.

Interior

Form follows function within this ergonomically laid out 944, giving the driver everything they could possibly need in an '80s fashion.

Seats and Carpets

The leather seats present in very good condition for their age and recorded mileage of the car, we only noticed the slightest wear to the drivers seat bolster piping and some usual patina to the leather that comes with use.

The carpets appeared to be in great condition too.

Dashboard

The dashboard in this 944 looks very good with no issues to report.

With no warning lights displayed, and the odometer showed a reading of ~73,254 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original Porsche steering wheel presents in good condition with the black 5-speed gear stick looking good too.

Mechanics

Porsche nailed the perfect combination of superb handling to power, the driver has a generous ~208bhp to tap into.

Engine and Gearbox

Mike reports the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth five-speed gearbox powering the rear wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around town, and for a closer look underneath.

The timing belt was changed at ~72,428 miles in 2014 and the car was last serviced in 2019, under ~100 miles ago.

One small thing to note, the bonnet struts are a little weak and you will see a plastic bar holding it up in the images / videos.

Suspension and Brakes

All the running gear is said to be in well-maintained order; Mike has attended any work that has been required over his 22 years of ownership.

The Drive

It's the 944 everyone asked for, gorgeous Turbo styling, smooth 3.0L power and great handling - Mike reports a very enjoyable ride is offered every time.

The new custodian will be able to pop the roof down and enjoy the fresh air with a naturally aspirated soundtrack.

Electrics and Other

Mike has reported the electrical system is in line with the rest of the condition of the car and in fully working order, he mentions the original stereo has been replaced with an updated Goodmans unit.
