A great tribute to the legendary Shelby, nothing quite beats the experience this car will give you.

The Cobretti Viper is distinct from any other replica for its extra flared front arches, you'll also find many changes under the skin on this example. Cobretti Engineering of Morden, Surrey began production of these kits back in 1987. It began as a ladder-type, the Cobretti chassis took on more of a spaceframe layout as the design progressed and is recognised as one of the strongest on the market.

Kits were manufactured to accept Ford Cortina/Sierra and Jaguar running gear, with a wide variety of engine options, this example would originally have had a 2.8 Granada block, which was upgraded to a 3.5L Rover unit, and then further still to the 4.2L big Rover V8 under the hood. Dressed in a 427-styled glass-fibre body shell with its distinctively large front arches. Sadly this car is being handled by Helen the partner of the owner Pete who passed away last year. It's been stored in the garage since, having come back from a respray last summer, a stunning car.

Meet the owner

Pete completed this project during his retirement, I don't drive personally but people tell me this car really wants to go.

As mentioned in the introduction, sadly Helen is selling this replica, the owner was her partner Pete who had owned the car for the previous 39 years, and passed away last year.

Pete was just the third owner of the car and kept it in excellent condition, as you see today. He had the car resprayed in metallic Jaguar "Emerald Fire Green" paintwork last May, but unfortunately never got to see the finished article having passed away in hospital before the car returned. Since then, it has been stored at home in the garage, with Helen not driving, she is looking for an enthusiast to take on ownership and use the car as Pete would have intended.

An unmissable 60s sports car shape with its curvaceous shape and Cobretti front arches.

Wheels and Tyres

The car is fitted with 15" grey wheels, featuring a polished lip and some knock off spinners for styling. The car is fitted with General/Marshal tyres which gives it that muscle look.

The wheels look in great condition along with General 2000 tyres at the rear and Marshal Power Racer's at the front - they appear to have a good amount of tread left on them and no signs of cracking from our observations. Please take a look at the exterior photos and videos to see how good these wheels actually are.

Bodywork

The car features a lightweight Cobretti fibreglass body shell, which looks in great condition throughout - all the panel gaps appear straight with both doors closing and opening with ease, as you would expect from a well cared for example.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in a fresh coating of Jaguar "Emerald Fire" last May 2021 by Bly and Son Ltd, professional classic car restorers. Each panel presents a deep lustre along with even coverage and colour throughout.

The car is stored in the garage, but we were caught out by a shower during the consignment. Given the respray has been actioned we think you can still get an idea of the quality of the work. The images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks in great condition across the car, along with the trim.

All the window rubbers and seals appear tight with no signs of wear or degrading. The bright work, also matches the rest of the car, i.e. in great condition throughout.

Interior

The cabin of this ca is a wonderful place to be, with the wind through your hair and the large curvaceous bonnet ahead of you.

Seats and Carpets

Comfortable grey leather seats await you in this example. Both seats are in great condition and in line with the age and mileage and show very little signs of wear.

The black carpets appears in line with the rest of the car, i.e. in great condition along with the door cards.

Dashboard

The dashboard presents in great condition and the colour matching grey leather pairs so well with the dark metallic green.

The dials, controls, and switches are in great condition, and all are said to be functional by the owner.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A classic wooden Ford steering wheel is in very high condition on this example with no issues with wear - both the steering wheel and automatic gear selector match the high standard of which the rest of the interior is in.

Mechanics

Engine and Gearbox

The car is fitted with a Rover V8 4.2L engine, which not only drives great but also sounds the part too. This is an upgraded unit from the standard 2.8L Granada engine the car would have come with.

The engine bay is presented very well with lots of work carried out to keep it in the condition you see today. We've captured a detailed mechanical video that shows the car out on the road and a view under and around the engine bay. Suspension and Brakes

The car is reported to drive very well, with the suspension offering a firm and enjoyable ride. A similar story for the brakes too.

The Drive

The car offers a drive like no other. Based on the famous 60's sports car that was renowned for its performance and handling both on the track and road. It's a ride you need to experience to fully appreciate, and one Pete loved.

Electrics and Other

The electrical aspects of the car are said to all be up to scratch and fully working.

The car has been said to have spent its life garaged, with recent restoration work and a complete respray carried out last May.

History and Paperwork

A rare UK RHD automatic Cobretti powered by a mighty 4.2L Rover V8, a fresh respray last year and barely driven since, it's ready to show this summer.

The car is sold with very little history as it belonged to Pete who passed away last year, yet notes for the total respray in May 2021 in Emerald Fire, and a recon A35 gearbox in 2019. You can see the paper MOT history with the car, and online too.
