Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

The GT Junior is the kind of car that makes even a trip for milk feel like a lap of Monza – maybe we need a few more trips to the shops!

The Alfa Romeo GT Junior is a stylish Italian coupé designed by Giugiaro at Bertone. Powered by a lively 1.3 or 1.6 litre twin-cam engine and a five-speed manual gearbox, it delivers a pure, engaging driving experience. Lightweight with sharp handling and classic Alfa charm, it remains a sought-after classic for its blend of performance, design, and character.

This 1972 example is a GT 1300 Junior, with Mark, the owner, having cared for it well over the past ~12 years - you'll see receipts and invoices backing it up by showing work done costing ~£8k since 2022.

Coming fresh to market, this is a a charming and usable classic with a low reserve that's ready to be enjoyed by a new owner.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Mark the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I love its shape, the graceful rear end and purposeful-looking front.

Mark has always loved the Alfa Romeo 105 body. It is such an attractive car, and after owning a GTV in his twenties, he had always regretted selling it, which led to taking a nostalgic trip in search of another.

Mark spotted this example for sale in Northern Ireland, and after some discussion and deciding it had been well looked after, a deal was done and the Alfa was shipped over.

Little use in recent times is the main driver for sale and Mark will be more than happy to answer your questions in the comments below.

Exterior

With its distinctive and beautiful shape, it’s easy to see why the Junior is loved by many.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the original steel wheels, these are finished in silver with chrome Alfa Romeo centres and are in good condition.

The tyres are a matching set and have a good amount of tread remaining.

Please see the image gallery for detailed shots.

Bodywork

Looking around the Alfa, the bodywork is in excellent shape. The panel gaps are consistent and no dings or dents were spotted. Mark had some work carried out in 2022, where the door skin bottoms were repaired/replaced, along with inner and outer sills by Moorland Classic Cars. Full details can be seen on the invoices in the paperwork section.

High-resolution images and videos have been provided, so please review all media to assess the car’s condition thoroughly.

image

Paint

Finished in the original colour of Alfa Red, the paintwork generally presents well. There are a few minor blemishes in places, but nothing excessive.

Images are taken from multiple angles to give you a realistic impression of the car, just as if you were standing beside it. Please take the time to examine these
high-resolution images and videos to assess the condition for yourself.

image

Glass and Trim

All of the windows are in good condition and free from any excessive scratches. Just some of the seals show a small amount of perishing in keeping with the age of the car.

The front and rear lights are in good order with no damage to the lenses.

Some of the chrome work shows light signs of age-related tarnishing.

Interior

Italian styling shines through nicely inside this '70s classic Alfa Romeo.

Seats and Carpets

The seats inside the Alfa are finished in vinyl and are in excellent condition with no real signs of age or damage. Both door cards are in good condition – the armrest on the driver’s side has a small split in the seam but could easily be repaired or replaced.

Throughout the cabin, the carpets are in good condition with no signs of excessive wear. Inside the boot is clean and tidy, and there is a spare wheel present.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition with no splits or cracks.

The instruments are working correctly, with the odometer showing a reading of ~28,932 kilometres.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

There is a wood-rimmed Hellebore steering wheel which shows some patina in keeping with its age.

The black gear knob is in good order with minimal signs of wear.

Please refer to the interior gallery for more images.

Mechanics

A revvy 1.3-litre twin-cam graces the engine bay of this classic Alfa.

Engine and Gearbox

Mark had some work carried out on the car in November 2024, which included a new coil, 123 ignition upgrade, spark plugs, and a service. The engine fires up nicely and sounds fantastic.

The gears are easily selected and the change is smooth.

A new clutch slave and master cylinder were fitted along with the other work in November.

image

Suspension and Brakes

Driving the Alfa is just as you’d expect; great fun!

The car handles nicely with no knocks or bangs from either corner.

It comes to a stop in a straight line with a reassuring feel to the pedal, thanks to the new master cylinder and servo.

The Drive

Driving the 1972 Alfa Romeo GT Junior is a nostalgic and engaging experience. With its lively twin-cam engine, communicative steering, and compact dimensions, it’s a true drivers' car – perfect for weekend blasts or spirited Sunday drives.

Electrics and Other

All of the switchgear appears to be working correctly, and Mark reports no issues.

History and Paperwork

The Alfa has made its way from Italy, via Rome and Ireland, before spending the last 12-years with Mark.

Coming from Europe, there isn’t a great amount of early history with the car, but the more relevant invoices collected by Mark for work he has had carried out over the years are included.

A well-cared-for example that has seen a significant amount of work over the past three years, ensuring it has been kept in fine fettle and is ready to go at the flick of a key. Will you be the lucky winner to take home this Italian classic?

We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including verifying photo ID, the V5C, and an HPI check. This confirms the car has not been stolen, written off, or has any outstanding finance. Please note: This check does not include mileage verification.

We’ve summarised the car based on the seller’s information above. As always, we go to great lengths to photograph and film the car in high-resolution detail, so you can make your own informed assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So grab a cuppa, relax, and enjoy reviewing everything in this listing.

Viewings are welcome for all our listings. Please get in touch to arrange a time – we just need to speak with you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If there’s anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments section below before placing your bids, as bids cannot be retracted and form a binding contract if you win – just like in a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
