Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

Beautifully crafted, extremely fast and engaging, and with a refined interior - the DB9 Volante has it all.

The DB9 was built for 12 years between 2004 and 2016, hand-assembled in Gaydon, Warwickshire. Originally penned by Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker, two designers famous for the concept designs of the Escort Cosworth, RS200, BMW Z8, and many more. With a much sharper design than the DB7, it was fitted with the 5.9L V12 from the Vanquish, had an aluminium construction, and offered outstanding performance.

The vendor has owned this car for the previous ~1.5 years and has thoroughly enjoyed his ownership over that time. Finished in navy with a sand coloured leather interior, it presents in beautiful condition, was serviced in September, has just had a health check at Cheltenham Aston Martin, now ready for the summer ahead. In addition, this particular car was shown by Aston Martin at Le Mans in 2005 when the model was launched.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Nigel the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've always dreamed of owning an Aston Martin, and this DB9 has been everything I've wanted and more.

Nigel has thoroughly enjoyed ownership of this DB9, he's had the car in his garage reserved for sunny weekends only which the low mileage and condition clearly reflects. He won the car on auction from us at Trade Classics, and couldn’t have been happier with it when he took delivery.

He was hoping to keep this example to enjoy for many years over his retirement; however, he's lucky enough to own another modern classic and can't really justify keeping them both so the DB9 comes to sale with us. Nigel will be on hand to answer any questions about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

The styling of the Volante still looks incredibly gorgeous, and thanks to its condition, has aged very well.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels were refurbished in March 2022 by "The Wheel Genie" and finished in the original color of "Brilliant Silver". As a result the wheels are in great uncurbed condition. These wheels were optional items specified from the factory.

Along with the refurbishment to the wheels, they were fitted with a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres all around, dated 2021. The tires appear to have a great amount of tread left for the new owner. Take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this DB9 Volante looks in great condition, with all the panel gaps around the car appearing to align very well. During our visit, we didn't spot any obvious dings or dents around the bodywork.

We've provided more detailed observations through our high-resolution images and videos. Please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what's on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in navy, the paint is applied with even coverage and colour across each panel. While we did notice the occasional very small and minor stone chip at the front of the car, you'll have to get really close to notice these. Additionally, we observed some very minor swirl marks in the paint that come with age.

Once again, we've captured high-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this DB9 Volante example looks great and is in line with the mileage. During our visit, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discoloration. The window seals also look good and align with the overall condition of the car.

The bumpers, door handles, and window surrounds are all in great condition as well. You can see in the exterior photos that the convertible top is in great condition with no tears or rips. Nigel rarely drives the car with the top up, as he only drives the car in dry weather.

Interior

The leather-wrapped cabin and smart centre console in the DB9 offer a luxurious GT experience.

Seats and Carpets

The luxurious sand coloured leather seats have held their shape very well over the years, as you would expect with cherished and careful ownership. The drivers side seat shows more signs of wear, and some cracking to the leather that can come from age.

A similar story is told with the door cards and navy carpets. For a detailed view of the cabin, please take a look at the extensive media.

Dashboard

The dashboard is covered in a navy leather with wood on the center console and presents four dials in front of the driver.

The dashboard in this DB9 shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs, and there are no warning lights displayed. The odometer showed a reading of ~63,795 miles during our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A leather-wrapped Aston Martin steering wheel is fitted. The original steering wheel is in great condition, aligning with the mileage of this car.

The gear select buttons and shift paddles also look good. For a closer look, check out the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

With ~450BHP on tap from factory, power is delivered straight to the rear wheels thanks to the V12 Vanquish engine.

Engine and Gearbox

Performance and reliability are offered with the Aston Martin "6.0L" V12 engine. It will take you to 60MPH in just ~4.7 seconds and maxes out at ~186MPH. On the day of our visit, we started the car from cold, and it performed well on the road; the engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran without fault.

Nigel reports that the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth automatic gearbox powering the rear wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the DB9 Volante and the smart engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension appears to be in good condition, providing a smooth journey on the sweeping Gloucester roads.

During our short drive in the car, it felt just as you'd expect for a sports car from this era, coming to a stop without a fuss too. Nigel reports having the rear brake discs and fitting new Brembo discs, pads (for both handbrake and main callipers), retaining pins, calliper bolts, and wear indicator cables with the help of his brother, an engineer, last October. Nigel also applied Lanoguard spray to protect the rear subframe.

The Drive

Arguably the ultimate Grand Tourer, the DB9 looks, feels, and sounds great - a proper modern classic.

The DB9 fired up the first time with no issues to report. On the road with Nigel, the car felt tight, exhibiting plenty of power to navigate the road. We didn’t notice any unusual noises coming from the engine or suspension either.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but Nigel reports that, to his knowledge, all of the electrics are functional and operational, aligning with the overall condition of the car. The car has its original stereo unit and navigation fitted from the factory.

History and Paperwork

This UK RHD DB9 comes with 16 services, is in great condition in a popular colourway, coming to market from ~1.5 year ownership, it's ready for a new owner to enjoy.

The car is coming out of 19 months of ownership with Nigel. It has 16 previous service stamps, with 12 from main dealers. Take a look at the media to see all the history included within the sale of the car, including the service history files and MOT reports. If you're in the market for a luxurious GT car to enjoy all year round, a genuine and highly original example with great service history, then this is the example for you. The DB9 comes with a current MOT valid until 17.09.2024.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
