Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
The last of the old-school Aston Martins – the Vanquish S is, quite simply, exhilarating.
For Aston Martin to survive in the 21st century, it needed to keep up with the competition. Aston required something completely new – and the code name was Project Vantage. The first car was branded the V12 Vanquish when it arrived in 2001. The chassis was based on technology developed by Lotus, paired with a body designed by Ian Callum that was universally admired. The V12 Vanquish was soon reworked and, in 2005, replaced by an upgraded version - the Vanquish S.
The Vanquish S featured a quicker steering rack, improved brakes, and a heavily revised suspension setup. A slightly more aggressive front splitter and a larger rear spoiler enhanced the aerodynamics. Power also increased from approximately 460BHP to a whopping 520BHP.
This lovely example has been owned by the current custodians for the past ~7 years and has been well maintained since leaving the Aston Martin factory in 2005, it comes with a current MOT valid until 25.07.2025, and last serviced 10.10.2024.
This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Barry the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Hi Colin,
Undestood the rear bumper and the window haven’t been fixed yet; does Barry confirm it will be fixed in case of a successful sale?
Thanks
Hi Cid,
Barry asked me to pass on his reply:
“I will guarantee to the buyer to fix the rear bumper scratch and ensure window set to work efficiently in the event of a successful sale.
Thanks
Barry”
Thanks Colin, Barry.
On the exterior portfolio, pics 89-92, there are white marks on the front lower spoiler; do you have a zoom in photo to understand what this is? Do you know what this is?
Thanks
Good morning. These cars typically need a new clutch between 30k – 40k miles, considering this costs £8k – £10k I wondered if this has been done recently?
Hi,
I just spoke to Barry, he said he’s unsure if the clutch has been replaced but in his time with the car he hasn’t had any issues with the clutch.
Thanks,
Colin.
Thanks Colin, based on advice I’ve had from a renowned Aston specialist it will probably need replacing then at this mileage. Definitely, never replaced earlier from previous owners invoices?
I’ve had a look through the invoices but can’t see any mention of the clutch being replaced.
Thanks,
Colin.
Thanks Colin.
Hi Barry,
Have front subframe been replaced in its life?
Has the ASM hydraulic gearbox unit been fixed ever, as this is common unit failure?
Asking as both can be costly and known issues.
Cheers,
Cid
Hi Cid,
I spoke to Barry and he told me he wasn’t sure if the subframe has been replaced, or if the ASM has been fixed.
Thanks,
Colin.
Thanks – looking at the rust on pic 68, it looks like it is the original front subframe.
Colin – with Barry away do you have any more photos of this area (pic 68 mechanics) showing the corrosion? As Cid mentions, this is a £10k replacement job if can’t be repaired in situ.
Thanks
Hi Rob,
That is all the photos we have, we do have the review of the underside of the car in the ‘On The Road’ video though, it starts around 6:30 in that video.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Colin.
Hi Rob,
I just spoke to Barry, he said he’s never had any mentions of the subframe when the car has been serviced and MOT’d at Aston Martin.
Thanks,
Colin.
Thanks Colin. You can see the corrosion in the picture but appreciate the info you have, I’ll make my decision based on that. Thanks again for the info & support
Wow! Only just seen pic 68, missed this – Colin, that subframe looks rotten, is there any further info on this?
Hi,
No more info than mentioned above, if I hear anything I’ll let you know.
Thanks,
Colin.
I think the drivers side still doesn’t come up but it does look like this is a repeating fault so I wonder what was tried to rectify the first issue as that doesn’t seem to have worked as failed again?
Any update on rear bumper repair too?
Thanks
Hi Barry, Also on the same report listed in the history section it states the windows do not drop/go up when opening doors, was this rectified too? Many thanks Matt
Hi Matt,
Barry is currently abroad and has limited communications, he has asked me to pass on his comment.
He told us the window drop should just be a case of coding it in to sort it.
Thanks,
Colin.
Thanks for coming back to me Barry re the coolant leak, did you have it pressure tested as the garage suggested? I only ask as this can be an expensive job. Matt
Hi Barry, I noticed a page on the service history listing some faults such as a coolant leak – have these been fixed now? Many thanks
Hi, was this answered? I cannot see an answer but based on your next message it sounds as it was. Many thanks
Barry answered on email
Hi,
I spoke to Barry and he told me the car has not had a coolant leak in his ownership, it must’ve been during a previous ownership and been fixed.
Thanks,
Colin.
Hi – is it possible to get a picture added of the repaired scrape on the rear bumper before the auctioned ends?
Thanks
Hi Rob,
I’ve just spoken to Barry, he is currently abroad and has limited communications, he asked me to pass on his comment.
Unfortunately he hasn’t been able to get it booked in to get the bumper fixed yet, we’ll keep you updated if he manages to get it sorted.
Thanks,
Colin.
