Introduction

Tom Valle
Professional Consigner

A proper GT that was a revolution not an evolution from Aston Martin.

The DB9 was an instant hit on release and is considered by many to be a modern classic in its own right. It's stunning in every way, hand-finished from top to bottom. The V12 upfront, but the bulk of the weight behind the front axle makes for great handling, and that hand-built power plant pushes out 450BHP.

These cars represent great value for a proper V12 GT, especially when you consider the prices for the tuned/uprated DBS. This example is finished in an attractive colour of tungsten silver over black, has ~56,000 miles on the clock, and just 4 former keepers.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Tom after meeting Jonathan the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Although I've only had this car a short time, what an experience it's been.

Jonathan acquired this DB9 around a month ago, he loves his performance cars having owned various Porsche and AMG's over the years, including a Panamera, Boxster and AMG C43.

In his ownership, he's covered some ~700 miles which he reports has been a real joy. Unfortunately though, some changes to his work are meaning that the car needs to be sold, and as such it is coming to auction with us. He'll be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

The famous DB grille, familiar side strakes, but a much more modern design that still holds its own today.

Wheels and Tyres

This DB9 is fitted with 19" 15-spoke Aston Martin alloys finished in silver, a beautiful and elegant design.

All the wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tyres, the wheels themselves look in good condition although the front offside wheel has some curb marks to the outer edge. Take a look through the photo and video review for the detail.

Bodywork

A modern classic in the making, designed by two of the best automotive designers in the world, the DB9 is likely to remain much more popular than the DB7 it followed.

The bodywork on this example is in very good condition. Panel gaps and shut lines look correct across the car, we didn't observe any major dents etc. With the aluminium body, corrosion between different materials can occur, and this is visible on/around the door handles, a typical issue that these cars can suffer from.

Paint

Finished in a tungsten silver colour, it's a stunning choice for the DB9 that compliments the design of the body. The paint finish on the car is in very good condition. Even in colour and finish across the panels from our observation.

The only point we really noticed was a scuff/scratch to the leading edge of the bonnet as pictured. Take a look through the extensive photo gallery to see all the paintwork.

Glass and Trim

Iconic and smart integration of the trim on the DB9 means the design still looks fresh on this future classic. The trim and glass all look in great condition, the only area to point out is the bottom of the wing mirror brackets where the coating has come off over time.

Interior

A luxury GT cabin, the Aston Martin holds its own when it comes to the interior design and finish.

Seats and Carpets

Simple and smart black leather to adorn the seats and other areas of the cabin. The leather is in good condition across the car, just the usual signs of use on the outer bolster of the drivers seat that looks in line with the mileage and use of the car.

View the video and photos to see the detail.

Dashboard

Finished in a blend of modern and traditional design, luxury wood veneer and smart and ergonomic electronic buttons, the dashboard and centre console on the DB9 have aged incredibly well.

All of the switch gear on this example looks good, the start/stop button looking fresh on the centre console. The wood veneer around the pop up display shows signs of ageing around the leading edges as pictured, and what looks to possibly be some sun bleaching too.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Fitted with the original leather steering wheel, the cars power is delivered through an automatic gearbox with paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel. All present in very good condition, along with the gearbox controls on the centre console.

Mechanics

An iconic V12 borrowed from the Vanquish, ~450BHP delivered to the rear wheels in a sporty yet luxury GT experience.

Engine and Gearbox

The 5.9L block paired to the automatic touchtronic gearbox is the most common combination for the DB9. It's easy to understand why, with all that power and torque, the gearbox delivers it effectively and can transport the car to 60MPH in ~4.7 seconds.

This particular example has been maintained by Aston Martin main dealer/Works for the majority of its life, and most recently had a basic service before the car was purchased. Watch the video to see the car start up, and settle down into a smooth tick over on idle.

Suspension and Brakes

Fitted with double-wishbone suspension which offers extreme stability when accelerating quickly, the chassis is aluminium and is 25% lighter than its predecessor.

The most recent MOT flagged up no advisories relating to the suspension or brakes.

The Drive

450BHP delivered to the rear wheels from a V12, what more could you ask for from a GT car. The DB9 had a much firmer and sportier ride quality compared to the DB7, but still retained a level of refinement that can make crossing continents a breeze.

Electrics and Other

Fitted with electric seats, the stock entertainment system, Jonathan reports that everything is working to his knowledge.

History and Paperwork

A beautiful tungsten silver over black example, ~56,000 miles completed in this car over a handful of owners, these DB9's present great value for a luxury V12 GT.

This example has only been with the current owner for short period. Over it's early life up to 2014 it has been serviced by Aston Martin main dealers/Works. Most recently it had a service in autumn 2020 by a local garage, and has an MOT until May 2022.

We've actioned checks on; Seller ID, V5C, HPi (outstanding finance).

Hi, there is quite a lot of service history missing, nothing really since 2014, the description says the car has had a autumn 2020 service but the receipt in 2020 is not for a service the cost is to low. Is there any other documentation to show the car has been maintained over the past 6+ years? Also the MOT history shows advisories for an oil leak and worn discs, are there any receipts for this work? Thanks

Hi
Noticed on startup the management light was on and a warning that the emission system service required. Could you tell me if this has been done and also do you know if the plugs and coil packs have been replaced.
Thanks
