Introduction

I'm only the third owner of my 330Ci. It's the last mainstream BMW produced with the renowned naturally aspirated M54B engine with a dipstick. It handles so well! It looks wonderful in rare Sparkling Graphite, complemented by beige leather and Myrtle Wood trim. Now though, having Grand children requires 4 doors for easier access.

l purchased the car in September 2012, off a retired gent. In all these years it has only let me down once due to a flat battery.

It starts first time hot or cold. The car has been fitted with uprated polyurethane front TCA bushes, which are common MOT failure on the 3 series, plus uprated rear springs and dampers which makes the ride rather firm for my ageing years!

Market Auction

martin, the seller, has created this listing themselves using our free Market Auction tool. Unlike our Curated Auctions, we haven’t photographed the car or written the listing, however we have completed 3 important security checks for your peace of mind.

V5C Checked

martin provided a copy of the V5C logbook, which we verified against his photo ID for name and address confirmation.

Exterior

I like the shape of this BMW with the chrome window edge surround accentuating the lines of the coupe.

Wheels and Tyres

The car is fitted with Star Spoke 17" alloys shod with Michelin PS4's. New rears were fitted in Nov 2020, I'd say they are now half worn - please see the tread photos mechanics section.

Bodywork

The bodywork is in good condition, though there is some rust forming on the drivers side front wing. E46's are known to suffer from this.

Paint

Paintwork is good but there are a number of stone chips on the front, which can be expected for a car that's 20 years old.

A deep polish would benefit the bodywork.

Glass and Trim

The glass is perfect with no chips to the windscreen.

Interior

I love the contrasting leather with the wood trim.

The quality dash plastics complement the inside as a nice place to be, and the switch gear is typical of BMW standards of that year.

Seats and Carpets

Seats are in excellent condition as l'm no heavy weight.

Rear seats have rarely been sat in.

Door cards and roof lining are likewise in excellent condition.

Dashboard

Dashboard and controls appear as if the car has just left the factory.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Excellent steering wheel, which is a nice hold.

The Myrtle Wood gear knob has a few hairline cracks in it.

Mechanics

That M54B straight 6 engine is so smooth!

Engine and Gearbox

The engine and gearbox are original apart from serviceable items.

The 6 speed gearbox is a pleasure to use and very strong. I had the plastic Disa Valves replaced with metal items a couple of years ago, as the plastic ones can break up like swirl flaps and if digested can be terminal.

Suspension and Brakes

Front discs were replaced early on in my ownership. Rears are original discs but pads have been replaced some time ago, along with the shoes on the handbrake.

The Drive

The car starts at the the touch of the key, be it hot or cold.

The drive is not like a saloon, as the uprated springs and dampers lend themselves to little suspension movement: that's why it handles well.

Electrics and Other

BMW electrics! Firstly, the heated seats have stopped working. The reversing sensors work intermittently, which was diagnosed as a faulty sensor. There's a new one in the glove box.

Outside mirrors work when they want to; it's not the motors as the passenger side tilts when reverse gear is selected. Forums seem to suggest the wiring loom has a fault due to the opening and closing of the drivers door bending the cable causing a breakage over time.

These items appear to be common issues on E46s.

Air con works though, cooling the cabin as intended.

The radio works fine, as do the single slot CD and 6CD changer in the boot.

History and Paperwork

The engine has had regular oil changes with quality lubricants.

The car has had 2 Main Dealer services and 8 Independent Services along with visits for unscheduled work. The last service in August 2023 included a brake fluid change, engine oil and filter as well as the Disa Valve replacement.
The current MOT expires on 23rd January 2026 with an advisory that the rear brake lines had a covering of grease.
Other key work: replace rear shockers 8/12/2021,parking brake shoes 17/11/2021, Alternator serpentine belt replaced 15/10/2018, rear brake pads replaced 14/06/2017, Rear diff bush 01/11/2016, Rear road springs replaced 10/6/2016, Replace DSC pressure sensor 24/5/2016.
Part worn Michelin PS4, which came off the vehicle, will be included.

From Trade Classics:
This is a Market Auction listing, meaning we have not visited and photographed the car - instead the seller has supplied the images and written the description. However we’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID that matches the V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPi that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

Viewings are welcomed, so please get in touch with us via the 'contact us' page - we just need to speak to you first on the phone, have you register on the site, and also send in valid photo ID before confirming a suitable time to visit.

Like all our auctions, if there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - the Buyer's Premium is not refundable in any instance, just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
