The lightweight brother of the already fantastic BMW M4.

The BMW M4 is a high-performance variant of the 4 Series developed by BMW's in-house Motorsport division, originally manufactured in 2014. The 2018 version takes a further step up from its previous incarnations, gaining an additional ~28BHP from its initial launch. Boasting revised suspension for better handling, new springs, dampers and adaptive M Suspension. BMW also re-tuned the electronic diff and the Dynamic Stability Control to match the upgraded hardware.

The CS (Club Sport) is an enhanced version of the standard and Competition Package, taking the M4 up a notch further, meaning the car on show here has been enhanced just enough to still allow you to use it on public roads without major issues, but is almost a track-ready machine. With only a very small run line of these being made, rarity is a big part of owning this car. With performance in mind, several elements of the CS have been designed to save weight, giving the car an extra edge over some of its competition. The CS's bonnet is 25% lighter than an M4's standard bonnet, being manufactured from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic. Keeping with the premium materials, the front splitter, rear spoiler, rear diffuser and roof skin are also all formed in carbon fibre. Other weight-saving features include "compacted natural fibre" interior door panels, fabric latch pulls (as seen in the M4 GTS) and lightweight M Sport seats – trimming off 16 kg of excess weight compared to the M4 Competition Pack.

This particular 2018 BMW M4 CS finished in "San Marino Blue Metallic" comes to market after almost ~3 years ownership with just 3 former keepers. It has had some substantial upgrades, which you will read about shortly – the result is a fantastic lightweight ~500BHP machine, which doesn’t disappoint!

Meet the owner

When I got the M4 CS, I will admit there was some influence from my son!

It was Andy’s son who really put the idea in his head about the M4 CS, and since he got the car, the pair have enjoyed it. They've taken it to shows, and together have choosen what parts to purchase next for it, which have resulted in some subtle but fantastic improvements.

Moving into a slower pace, Andy’s son has recently purchased an older classic which Andy quite liked the idea of – and is why the M4 is now being parted with. He will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

With curves in all the right places – the M4 CS looks as aggressive as you could imagine it could be.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the factory wheels, which are 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear, these are generally in excellent condition with just a small mark on the offside side rear wheel.

When needed, the super-sticky 255/35/R19 and 285/30/R20 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s have been replaced in current ownership and look to have a good amount of tread remaining. Please see the image gallery for more detailed images.

Bodywork

Bulging arches, carbon fibre vented bonnet, carbon fibre bumper trims and a carbon roof all add up to make this M4 CS that extra bit special. There were no dings or dents spotted, and the panel gaps are visually matching. The only minor blemish we did spot was the carbon fibre insert on the driver’s side of the rear bumper has delaminated slightly.

Paint

Finished in the stunning "San Marino Blue Metallic", the M4 is very well presented and really does come to life once in the sun, which we were blessed with when photographing the M4 CS. There are a few minor age-related stone chips on the bumper, but nothing excessive.

All windows are in excellent condition with no noticeable scratches or marks to point out.

Interior

Driver-focused with everything within reach, leaving you to focus on what’s important... driving of course!

Seats and Carpets

The Merino leather seats fit you like a glove and hold you nicely. Finished with M4 badges and M-coloured stripes, the seats are a work of art. The driver's bolster has a minor amount of wear, and the stitching has come undone a little at the top, but this is difficult to see and could probably be quite easily repaired.

The carpets throughout the car are excellent, and a set of genuine BMW M4 mats is fitted in the front and rear. Inside the boot, the warning triangle is in place, and there are some GardX cleaning products.

Dashboard

The neatly trimmed leather and Alcantara dashboard is free of damage, and the instrument cluster is working correctly.

The odometer shows ~29,574 miles at the time of our visit, no warning lights were displayed when the car was running.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Alcantara steering wheel is finished with the M-coloured stitching. There is a tiny bit of wear to the centre line at the top of the wheel. There are also paddles fitted here for the more spirited driver. The carbon fibre gear selector is in good condition with no signs of age. Please see the interior gallery for more images.

Mechanics

With ~454BHP as standard, the M4 CS can easily be a handful – not for Andy, who opted for a stage-one remap.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.0L twin turbo inline-six engine in the BMW M4 CS makes super sports car performance truly possible, and Andy has done an excellent job with some subtle modifications. In no particular order, there has been; a Stage-one remap, as we mentioned, Active Autowerke exhaust (which sounds amazing), Eventuri intake system, carbon fibre engine cover, anodised alloy caps and various other dress-up parts.

Fitted with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, the change is super smooth whilst in automatic or paddle shift mode and, as you can imagine, with ~500 horses, the M4 pulls extremely well.

Suspension and Brakes

The state-of-the-art adaptive BMW M suspension system is fantastic on the road. You can choose from a choice of damper settings to suit your driving style, although the firm setting is probably more engineered for track use.

Cross-drilled discs on each corner ensure the M4 comes to a stop with ease. The callipers are finished in a blue and have the M logo, but this has faded slightly; however, replacements of these can easily be found on a well-known auction site.

The Drive

Behind the wheel of the BMW M4 CS is a thrilling, visceral experience that blends everyday usability with track-ready performance. With its ~500BHP twin-turbo straight-six engine, lightning-quick dual-clutch transmission, and adaptive M suspension, the M4 CS delivers razor-sharp handling, explosive acceleration, and a raw exhaust note that keeps you grinning. Being lighter than the standard M4 thanks to carbon fibre components, it feels more focused, with firmer damping and sharper steering response. It's basically a proper driving machine – intense, engaging, and unapologetically fast.

Electrics and Other

As a modern car, BMW's infotainment package, especially the iDrive system, is excellent.

It allows you to easily access many functions of the vehicle, such as Bluetooth, a reversing camera, parking sensors, keyless start, auto stop/start, and more. All are said to be working correctly.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~3 year ownership, with 3 former keepers, the car has seen 8 services in just ~29,574 miles, this car has seen some choice upgrades now resulting in ~500BHP output.

With the owner's manuals present and correct, along with two keys and several invoices showing all of the upgrades and extras Andy has fitted to the M4 CS, the history package is substantial for a 2018 car with low miles.
