Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

Boasting one owner straight from the dealership, this super low mileage S2000 is a bit different - appealing to shrewd investors with future investment potentials on their minds.

Honda's original development plan for these cars was to be more focused on classic Honda values rather than manufacturing a car that complied with standard 'market pleasing' requirements.

This second generation facelift S2000, often referred to as the AP2 model, introduced new wheels, tyres and re-tuned suspension. Springs, shocks and geometry were also modified to generate additional stability for the Honda. New cosmetic changes to the exterior were also included bringing new front and rear bumpers, headlight assembly and LED tail lights and oval tipped exhaust pipes. Being the 2006 model, features such as an updated throttle system and an electronic stability control system were welcome additional upgrades to the S2000.

Well balanced and responsive, this is a modern classic car. Coming fresh to the market with only one owner from dealership purchase, it's rare to see a car of this age with this level of low mileage and history. What's even better to see is the level of quality and condition that is present across the interior. Top that off with an electric folding sunroof, 2.0L engine and 6 speed manual transmission, this one is really worth a closer look at.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Ian the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Driving feel and owner satisfaction are some of the most important factors that went into the manufacturing of the S2000.

Originally purchased in 2006 being only a few months old, Ian picked the car up with ~2000 miles on it at the time. Having owned this now for some ~16 years Ian has really enjoyed his time with the car and mentions, "It's a car that still brings a smile to my face every time I drive it".

It's not often you find a car of this age with such low mileage on it, through Covid restrictions Ian let us know that he didn't have much time to use the car only adding a few miles each year. Now making additional time to renovate his house and garden area, the time has come for Ian to part ways with his Honda for new ventures on the horizon.

Ian lets us know, "I look forward to the new owner really enjoying this car as I have done for the last few years".

Exterior

The second generation factory facelift gifted this Honda S2000 with upgraded alloys, newly designed bumpers and an electric folding soft top roof.

Wheels and Tyres

Honda centre caps sit nicely on the 17" alloy wheels with correct Bridgestone Potenza tyres on all sides of the car. The tyres are original having been in place since initial ownership showing a date code of 2006.

As with any car, tyres are one of the most important areas of a vehicle, with safety in mind, these do need to be replaced by the new owner if the car is to be driven, as signs of cracking are showing (in between the tread and also wall areas) - although they are still displaying a good amount of tread on the tyre itself - maybe keep them aside as they are the originals.

The alloys are showing a few signs of age with some small marks on the wheel badges, we did note some evidence of scuff marks on the rims and looking over the surface area these would benefit from a bit of detailing work and polishing back.

Bodywork

Panelling looked to be great all the way around the car, shut lines all sat well and there were no apparent visual issues with alignment or anything out of the ordinary.

Overall great condition bodywork.

The badge-work on the Honda presents in really great condition, S2000 emblems are present on the front quarter panels, showing no signs of corrosion and still have their shiny lustre.

Highlighted through our hi-resolution images and exterior video, we take a closer look at how the car looks across various angles. Take a look over the video for yourself for a detailed look where we take in various angles and viewpoints for you to get a real taste of what's on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Overall the finish shows in a good condition - the paintwork is reflective of the low mileage and we were pleased to see that all areas of the Honda looked to be in good order.

Looking closer at the paint, we felt the car could benefit from a light machine polish to bring the paneling back up to a stunning level of shine which would be achievable with a good polish over. There was some slight discolouration just under the rear lights which may need some corrective work by the new owner.

We noticed a slight mark showing on the offside front bumper although this was something that we felt may be able to be polished out, and really, not an area we were particularly concerned about given the rest of the Honda's shape.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

Looking over the windscreen, it is in good condition, there was a slight stone chip that we noticed but overall the rest of the screen looked to have no concerning issues. The rear glass sat as it should with no visible issues. Looking at the rest of the trim around the Honda showed nicely and all windows worked as they should when out on our test drive.

On our visit we noticed some slight discolouration on the headlight cover, with some remedial work these should polish up really nicely - a standard job on plastic headlight covers.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our "Exterior Review" video, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

Interior

Contrasting red and black colour way through the interior gives a really smart look with an edge of race style.

Seats and Carpets

With a red / black colour matched interior the cabin area looks really smart. Looking nearly as new, the carpet section looks in great condition, Honda S2000 branded mats look good and underneath these sections, the floor coverings show to be equally respectable.

Comfortable, driver hugging seats show little signs of ageing or wear which was goes to reflect the history of the car.

The cabin area is a really pleasant place to sit and take in the road from; quality materials, very little signs of fatigue in the footwells and an inviting setup that greets you as a driver once you take your seat.

Dashboard

The S2000 branded display houses a stereo / radio system, the owner let us know that he has the radio code available although we were unable to test the radio out on our test drive on the day. Having recently changed the battery for the Honda, the radio code would need to be re-entered to enable this working which will be provided in the handover process of the S2000. Ian let us know that prior to the battery replacement the radio is working and fully functional.

A driver focused interior displays the digital dash, with gauges, dials and operating system all within the drivers reach. A smart looking 'Engine Start' button shows a real racing edge with its red fascia.

We covered some more detailed shots of the interior in our hi-resolution gallery, take a look over the images where our aim is to take you through the interior as if you were actually in the car.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A three spoke leather bound wheel with smart looking Honda 'H' logo makes the driver feel at home in a comfortable environment. We noted a slight mark on the left hand side of the steering wheel but nothing out of the ordinary.

The gearstick gaiters look to be in a fine condition with the handbrake showing in an equally respectable condition.

Mechanics

Honda VTEC performance gives this S2000 a real edge once you hit the 6000RPM marker turning this Honda into a bit of an animal.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine displayed nicely and showed no signs of oil leaks or anything untoward on the day of our visit. We did note the paint peel on the engine block although this is a fairly typical sight on certain Honda engines and an easy / satisfying repair. Once done the bay will look almost like new again.

We noted no issues from start up which we've highlighted in the cold start of the "Mechanical review" video. Take a look over the video for yourselves to hear the S2000 start up from cold and take in the lovely sounds of the engine. We go into further detail about the Honda and take it out on some local roads to get a better sense of what this car is all about.

Suspension and Brakes

Getting into the detail of the brakes, there were signs of very light corrosion, due to the last of use, but the brakes worked as they should when out on the road and we noted no pull or drag to either side of the car when Ian performed a brake test for us.

We covered off the underside of the Honda's exterior in our Mechanical gallery section. Take the time to look over the images and see for yourself what's on display here, equally, head over to our video section where we've summarised our visit in more detail for you to view for yourself.

The Drive

Driving with the owner out on the road, Ian described the S2000 as, "a car that likes to be driven and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it".

As a 6 speed manual the car is a real drivers car; the 2.0L petrol engine features Honda’s VTEC variable valve timing system, the output of which, is that the car delivers a jump up in performance from 6000rpm onwards. Ian describes the car as having 2 different personalities, "the Honda is a very comfortable car for simply taking around the town, turning into a bit of an animal when you hit that 5000/6000 rev count".

The S2000 is equipped with various electronic driving aids and stability control which makes the agile chassis'd, rear wheel drive Honda a real thrill to drive whilst providing driving comfort for the new owner to really enjoy.

Electrics and Other

Out on the test drive the electrics were working as they should with the electronic read outs available to view as part of the "On The Road" video shown in the Mechanical Review section.

Additional extras such as the optional hard top, tonneau cover and spare wheel are all included as part of the S2000 sale. All present in a really great condition also.

We did note that there is a slight area of repair that has been actioned on the soft top just above the offside door.

History and Paperwork

A lovely example of a S2000 boasting low mileage, Honda servicing and coming to market from ~16 years of current ownership having previously been owned by Honda of Berkshire.

Having been owned straight from a Honda dealership, this one owner, low mileage S2000 shows in a really nice condition inside and out and all the way through to the service history. Although the service log book is not 100% complete there are a great amount of dealership service stamps shown within. Speaking with Ian, the owner, he let us know that due to Covid restrictions and personal projects he's put very low mileage into the car with the MOT certificates reflecting this. Included with the car is the service handbook showing all the servicing completed at a Honda dealership.

With a great looking removable soft top hood as well as the optional tonneau cover and spare wheel this Honda has been looked after over its ownership. As part of the sale, the original hard top roof is also included showing to be in a great condition, a nice added feature is the roof stand also available for the new owner. Folding electric roof is a lovely feature which we tested during our visit and found to have no issues with at the time.

Should it be needed, Ian would be happy to answer any queries or questions you may have to support your purchasing decision in the comments section below.
