Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner and Photographer

The S3 blends classic elegance with muscle - marking a bold and luxurious farewell to the legendary E-Type lineage.

The Jaguar E-Type Series 3 represented the final evolution of a true automotive legend. Introduced in 1971, the Series 3 marked a bold shift in both style and performance, tailored to meet the growing demand for grand touring comfort without compromising the E-Type’s sporting pedigree.

Visually, the Series 3 was distinguished by its flared wheel arches, wider track, larger grille, and quad exhausts - subtle but effective hints at the power beneath the surface. The cabin also saw improvements, with more comfortable seating and additional refinements aimed at enhancing usability. And, at the heart of the Series 3, was Jaguar’s 5.3-litre V12 engine, developed from their racing program and designed to offer effortless torque and silky smooth performance.

By 1973, the E-Type had grown into a luxurious, high-speed cruiser that retained the charisma and presence of its predecessors while evolving to meet modern expectations. Today, the Series 3 V12 stands as a celebrated swan-song to the E-Type lineage - an elegant blend of British craftsmanship, performance, and timeless design.

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Robert the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

It's a proper classic - there's so much to love about this car, a real head turner out on the road!

The current owner, Robert, has been an avid fan of classic British motoring for as long as he can remember, he said, "Jaguars have always been one of my favourite brands, and in particular, the E-Type. There's something about the style and performance that just ticks all the boxes for me".

Robert tells us more about his experience with the Jaguar, "Its been one of those cars that I just had to tick off the bucket list. Its been everything I wanted it to be and more, there been a fair few lovely journeys out in it, exploring the countryside and earning some admiring thumbs up from enthusiasts along the way. I truly love the car but practicality means I need to look at other options".

With a new car on the horizon and less time to spend with the S3 than before, reluctantly Robert is letting his car go to market. If you have any further questions about the E-Type, Robert would be happy to answer them in the comments section below.

Exterior

Long bonnet, low-slung stance, and unmistakable curves - enhanced by the bold front grille and flared wheel arches, this classic exudes timeless British style.

Wheels and Tyres

The Jaguar is fitted with a lovely set of 15" wire wheels - these appear to be in great condition and are free from major signs of wear. These finish the car off beautifully looking over the exterior.

The car is equipped with a set of UniRoyal tyres at the front and rear, the condition looks good with a respectable level of wear. The tyre specification shows 205/65 at both the front and rear - these were new in Oct 2023.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of this E-Type and a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

image

Bodywork

The exterior of the Jaguar shows well - both doors, engine cover, and bonnet section open and close well.

We noted no apparent signs of any serious corrosion or issues with the bodywork, and the car looks lovely out on the road.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Looking over the E-Type, the car is in excellent condition with the unique Primrose Yellow paint finish looking lovely. The colour looks an even match across the car, and the finish to the paint is consistent across the exterior.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork and paint for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please, take the time to fully assess these high resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

All of the glass sections around the Jaguar looked good with windscreen, windows, mirrors and lenses all appearing in a good condition with no cracks, chips or significant scratching that we observed on our visit.

Chrome work and badges looked great with the headlight sections looking really smart.

Take a look through the exterior gallery and review video, we take you across all the areas of the car as if you were standing there for yourself. This way, you can see in greater detail what a great looking car the E-Type really is.

image

Interior

Deep leather seats, luxury levels of detail, and aircraft-inspired dials - the cabin blends elegance with a sense of purposeful sportiness.

Seats and Carpets

The smart black leather seats with contrasting yellow stitching are in superb condition, showing just some minor creases in the leather and a small nick on the piping, although nothing overly concerning. Upon inspection, the rear shelf section appeared to be in really good condition, with barely a mark on the bench.

The carpets in the cabin are also show really nicely, with minimal signs of use. Looking underneath the mats showed no worrying issues. We also reviewed the boot section, finished in a cinnamon colour, which again displayed well and is clean and tidy. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

image

Dashboard

The black dash appears in great shape with no issues or scratches to report. The top of the dash presents well and without splits, cracking, or warping. The odometer displayed ~40,863 miles at the time of our visit.

The gauges, switches, and controls are beautifully presented; all faces look clean and clear, they show no fogging or scratching. We noted no issues with any warning lights, and the dials were all functioning without concern.

Our interior gallery section takes you through some closer images of the Jaguar's dashboard. Head over and see the car's interior in finer detail.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classic 3-spoke Jaguar steering wheel features a lovely finish that nicely complements the rest of the interior. Nothing of significant concern was observed here, but there were a few signs of patina.

The gear stick showed minimal amount of use and no visible signs of damage, presenting in lovely condition. The handbrake looked in great condition also.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

image

Mechanics

Powered by the mighty 5.3-litre V12 engine, the E-Type delivers effortless performance with a distinctive growl that’s pure Jaguar.

Engine and Gearbox

We took the car out on some local roads with the current owner to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. During the drive, we ran through the motions, taking the E-Type through the gears and getting an overview from Robert's perspective on how the car performs.

The engine is in excellent condition and Robert has done a lot of work, most items being preventative, e.g. high torque starter motor, engine wiring loom and aluminium radiator - see the History and Paperwork section for more information, and of course the invoices / receipts in the history file.

The gearbox and overdrive unit has also been reconditioned for total peace of mind.

Please take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold and for a closer look underneath the E-Type, as well as the well-presented engine bay.

image

Suspension and Brakes

On the drive out, we heard no knocks, bangs, or squeaks from the suspension, and overall, the car performed as expected with no observed issues.

The brakes felt solid with no noticeable pull or vibrations during the journey, bringing the car to a stop smoothly and in line with Jaguar's quality expectations. Robert overhauled the system including a new main brake servo and vacuum one way valve.

We cover the underside of the E-Type in our 'Mechanical gallery' section. Head over to our video section where we've summarised our visit in more detail for you to view for yourself. We take you around the mechanical elements of the car and give you an overview of what's on offer here.

image

The Drive

As to be expected from a car of this calibre, the drive is quite sublime - be it accelerating through country roads or cruising up the coast, the Jaguar E-Type provides a comfortable drive that oozes class and comfort whilst offering respectable performance, even amongst modern traffic.

image

Electrics and Other

The electronics in the E-Type are relatively straight forward but present really well. Dials read without concern as do the dash instruments. The car is retro fitted with a Blaupunkt DAB stereo system.

One point to note is Robert fitted a completely new SNG ignition system for total reliability.

Underneath the rear bench holds a fire extinguisher, and in the boot, is a spare wire wheel and tyre. Robert let us know that he's had no issues with the electrical elements on the car and everything is working as it should.

History and Paperwork

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
