Introduction

Unmistakable Jaguar charm - a final flourish for a British icon, offering timeless elegance and grand touring luxury.

The Jaguar XJS Celebration represents the final and most refined chapter of the iconic XJS story. Introduced to mark Jaguar’s 60th anniversary, the Celebration edition brought with it a series of elegant enhancements that set it apart from earlier models. Distinctive features included stitched leather upholstery, embossed headrests, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, special badging, and upgraded trim details that added a layer of sophistication to the already luxurious grand tourer.

Powered by Jaguar’s smooth 4.0L straight-six engine, this convertible delivers a graceful yet capable driving experience; perfect for open-road cruising with the roof down. The XJS had evolved significantly since its debut in the mid-1970s, and by 1995 it had matured into a comfortable, stylish, and highly usable classic. With only a limited number of Celebration editions produced before the end of the XJS line, this model stands today as a highly desirable and collectible piece of Jaguar history, offering timeless design and laid-back performance in equal measure.

This example comes to market presenting very well, having been dry stored and covered by its current keeper. During its current ownership, the XJS has had extensive suspension works completed covering off new steering rack gaiters, gearbox oil change, new front shock absorbers, new front and rear discs and pads and rear suspension arm replacement in 2021 costing over £4,000.

Coming to fresh-to-market this car is suited for both enthusiasts and collectors alike, a fine example ready for its next owner.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Barry the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

It’s a fantastic car - quick to respond, plenty of power when needed, with smooth gear shifts and smart looks to match.

The current owner, Barry, has had the Jaguar in his possession for the last ~4 years, Barry tells us, "I've loved every minute of ownership with the XJS. It does everything I need and more. Power, style and the right level of comfort, especially out on the country roads".

Barry was in the market for something a little different when the Jaguar came along, he went on to say, "I wanted a car which I could be really proud of. This one does exactly that and it's been something which I've spent a good deal of time and money on getting it to where I wanted it to be".

With less time on his hands and a newer car purchased, the current owner has decided to part ways with the Jag saying, "Its a difficult decision, but I have a much newer car now and just don't have the space to keep both. I'm not using as much as I once was and feel someone else needs to enjoy it as I have".

Barry will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

Sleek and stylish, the XJS Celebration pairs classic grand tourer curves with elegant chrome touches - making every arrival feel like an occasion.

Wheels and Tyres

The XJS is fitted with a set of 5-spoke 16” alloy wheels which were only available to the Celebration model. They are in great condition on all four corners, purchased separately in 2012 at a cost of £800.00.

The Jaguar is fitted with Pirelli Cinturato P7's tyres to the front and rear. Tread spec shows as 225/60 appear to be in good visual condition, with a decent amount of tread remaining. Both sets of tyres were dated from 2019.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Jaguar and a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

While looking over the Jaguar during our visit, we found that the car stood level, shut lines look good and we could see no visible distortion to the panels, and both doors, boot, and bonnet open and close well.

We noted major areas of concern when looking under the car - the underside of the XJS has been sealed with Waxoyl, costing over £400 to complete in 2002.

There were very small parking ding to the rear quarter panels and passenger door, although we had to look fairly closely to spot these and would be an easy fix for a dent specialist.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

The "Sapphire Blue" paint shows a good lustre and even colour match throughout. The current owner keeps the Jaguar dry stored with a cover, and mainly driven out in fair weather, just some of the reasons why this presents in such smart condition. The white side detail stripe also displayed well.

If we were being overly picky, there was a slight stone chip on the front quarter panel edge and a small area of marking around the exhaust tip. The paint around the front bumper, showed a slight note of splitting and lacquer peel to the edges.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

Overall the glass and trim on the XJS showed with no major cause for concern. The seals look good around the outside and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The chrome trim and body fittings are in very good shape, with no issues noted on the lights or lenses. The front "Leaping Jaguar" bonnet ornament and Jaguar and XJS badges to the rear, all presented well. The chrome finish would benefit a little polishing to bring out the original shine.

Looking over the mechanical hood, this showed in good condition and was working well.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our exterior review video, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

Interior

Plush oatmeal leather, rich wood trim, and a timeless design that makes every journey feel first-class.

Seats and Carpets

The front and rear seats all show in lovely condition finished in oatmeal leather. The front seating sections show with no major damage or concern, just a few signs of creasing to the leather and minor wear with age to the drivers bolster section. The embossed Jaguar logos were a nice highlight here. The rear seats had a couple of notes of slight markings to the finish, although nothing really worrying.

Carpets in the front and rear of the cabin show in great condition, with the boot reflecting the same.

Checking underneath the cabin mats, showed no issues here.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

image

Dashboard

The black dash inserts and wood veneer across the centre console all appears in stunning condition with no issues to report. Black dials with white needles looked excellent and were all functioning as expected. The odometer showed with ~81,951 miles at the time of our visit.

The dials, switches, and controls all showed well, and nothing out of keeping. We noted no issues with any warning lights and the gauges were all functioning without concern when starting up the car.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A wooden rim with black inset puts the driver in control of the Jaguar, and shows in excellent condition. The gear knob is in great condition with no issues noted.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

The XJS delivers ~238BHP from its 4.0L straight-six, paired with a 4-speed auto and switchable drive modes for smooth or sports performance.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine appears to be in great visual condition and presented very well, operating with no issues, or unusual noises. Starting up from cold, we noted no concerns and the Jaguar performed without issue when running and out on the road. The car idled smoothly and its engine was easily capable of taking the driver up to speed in no time at all.

The automatic gearbox and sport mode function showed no concerns with shifting the XJS through the motions. Take a look at our "mechanical review" video, where we cover the engine start-up and take the Jaguar around some local roads to learn more about the car.

image

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or issue from the suspension when we were on the road in the car, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling. The suspension was given an overhaul in 2021 with new steering rack gaiters, updated front shock absorbers and rear suspension arm replacement.

The brakes bring the car to a halt in a straight line with no juddering reported through the pedal, the stopping power and control felt great after the restorative works inline with the suspension. The previous works in 2021 covered off installation of new front and rear discs and pad replacements for these.

image

The Drive

The XJS Celebration delivers a smooth, refined driving experience with a touch of grand tourer flair. Its powerful straight-six engine offers effortless acceleration, while the suspension is tuned for comfort, soaking up road imperfections with ease.

Steering is relaxed yet responsive, making it ideal for open-road cruising or leisurely drives with the top down - an elegant blend of performance and poise.

image

Electrics and Other

During our time with the vehicle we noted that all switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and are in lovely condition.

The XJS has parking sensors, retro fitted by a previous owner. The clock was noted as working on our visit. The soft top convertible hood showed no issues with its operation, as noted in our "mechanical review" video.

The Jaguar is complete with its original servicing book and 2 alarm fobs. Barry told us everything was in working order as far as he was aware.

image

History and Paperwork

With over £4k of suspension and brake work completed in its current ownership, the XJS is well set for many more comfortable miles ahead.

The Jaguar has benefitted from a sensible level of upgrades over its time, where suspension works were completed with new steering rack gaiters, gearbox oil change, new front shock absorbers, updated front and rear discs and pads and rear suspension arm being replaced in 2021 costing over £4,000.

Previous works include, replacement anti roll bar bushes and an oil change in November 2024, rack bushing changes, new oil and filters in November 2023, air con re-gas and oil and filter change in September 2022, new rear suspension arm in June 2022. Wheel alignment was completed in December 2020, and a new shaft crank sensor and heater fan knob were updated in August 2020.

Other works include, 4 new chrome wheels, respray of the bonnet, wheel arch, scratch removal and a reshape and respray of the rear bumper in 2012. Removal of dents from the bonnet, door, wing and boot, oil change and speedometer repair in 2011. Oil change, drive shaft greasing and bushings check in 2010. Take a look over the paperwork gallery for more of the past history of the XJS.

Please note, the final sale does not include the private plates as these are being retained by the current owner.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
