Introduction
Paul Wright
Taking on a more modern look from the E-type, the XK8 was considered a worthy grandchild and is now maturing nicely.
These elegant, Fergus Pollock-styled cars were first introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1996. Available in both convertible and coupe form, they were warmly received by the public; over ~90,000 were sold, mainly to the UK and US markets. A worthy successor to the XJS, the XK8 pioneered Jaguar's first homegrown V8. Previous V8 Jaguar offerings had very successfully utilised a Daimler unit. However, this new engine was highly innovative and featured 32 valves, variable valve timing and a power output of ~290BHP.
True to its Jaguar pedigree, the XK8 looks every inch the feline predator, with more than a hint of E-type heritage. Sharing a platform with the Aston Martin DB7, it’s a beautiful, luxurious and powerful sports car, capable of delivering an engaging, communicative and exhilarating driving experience.
This lovely, well-presented example has been cared for by Geoff for the past 16 years and has recently received a service, ready for the new custodian.
This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Geoff the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Auction End Time Extended – Important Update
We’ve recently completed some major upgrades to our website, and while we’re actively working to resolve a few issues that have arisen, we want to ensure that all bidders have a smooth and fair experience.
As a precaution, we have extended the auction end time from Thursday evening, 15th May to Tuesday, 20th May.
This extension is being made to give everyone ample time to place their bids without any technical difficulties, and to ensure a fair auction process for all participants.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support!

Hi Geoff – is there a standard cover for the retracted hood?
Hi John, it is an origininal Jaguar Tonneu cover with storage bag.
Cheers, Geoff
Good afternoon, Am I looking at the info incorrectly or are there large gaps in the service history? Thx Matt
Hi Matt, there are no gaps in the servicing. The car was serviced approximately every 10 thousand miles since new. When I purchased her in October 2009 ( a Bae Systems early retirement present to myself. I retired as an electrical aircraft inspector, aged 56 in 2009 ) she had 59 thousand miles on the clock and I had her serviced, again every 10 thousand miles. So the mileages at every service were 10,226, 20,097, 31,118, 40,027, 48,976, 59, 532, 69,707 and her final service at 78,931. I also had the transmission fluid an filter changed on the 20th April 2016. As you can probably work out, I have covered only 19 thousand miles in the 16 years ( 3 tours of the Somme battlefields in Northern France and Normandy for the 75th D-Day celebrations ) that I have owned her, only covering 300 miles last year. I’ve now decided at the age of 72 to sell her due to me falling out of the loft at the begining of February this year, fracturing seven ribs ( two in two places ) and three fractured vertibrae, thus making difficult to get in and out and drive her. My wife also has lower back problems an the grand children are no longer interested in going for a spin, so it’s time to let go and try to enjoy the Ford Kuga that we’ve just purchased. If you have any more questions, just ask and hope this helps.
Cheers, Geoff
Thanks Geoff, I appreciate the mileage servicing, surely the car would need servicing on time too? Ten years without servicing is a long time.
HI Matt, I’m old school I’m afraid, when servicing was dictated by mileage and not time. the time concept was introduced to keep main dealers etc. in work. If mileage servicing was acceptable during the 60’s and 70’s, the the same should apply now without being detrimental to the running of the car. Also all the time I’ve owned the car, she was taken off the road at the end of September, covered and garaged, to be taken out again at the end of April the following year. Thus she was only driven for 5 months during each summer, so why service every year, there’s nothing to deteriorate, I’m still using 10 year old castrol oil for my Triumph Bonneville, timing chains also don’t deteriorate and other fluids ar changed/topped up when appropriate. Thing like brake pads, tyres etc. are picked up during an MOT and changed accordingly. Hpe this helps and good luck.
Cheers, Geoff
Thanks for the update and extra info – I can appreciate your diligence in keeping her well maintained – I was an automotive engineer at Vauxhall, then Jaguar, and am the same way inclined about keeping on top of a nice car.
Hi John, it’s just surface rust with no perforation. Nothing that can’t easily be sorted out, in fact I’ve a full tin of Waxoil underseal that you can have if you win the auction. The car was always stored in my garage from the end of September to the end of April ( with dust cover ) and was never driven during the winter months for the whole 16 years that I’ve owned her. I’m 72 and my wife is 69 and it’s getting harder to get in and out of the her( also the grandchildren are grown up and not interested in trips out anymore ), I think I only did 300 miles in her last year, so we’ve both decided to get a Ford Kuga and let the Jag go to someone who will appreciate and look after her.
Being a retired Aircraft Electrical Inspector for Bae Systems, I’ve been fastidious in her maintenance and upkeep and only now it is time to let go.
Cheers Geoff
Hi Geoff, yes I see that now – thanks. The area on both sides of the lower front edge of rear wheel arches shows where the underseal is lifting away.is the steel perforated by corrosion in these areas or is it still sound with just surface rust? Maybe it looks worse than it actually is?
Hi John, nice to hear you’re going to look after her !. There are photographs of the underside in the Mechanics section. Hope this helps and good luck.
Cheers, Geoff
I checked and the engine number in the logbook indicates that this one will have the plastic bodied tensioners. That’s not a problem, but if I win the car I will definitely have them upgraded with steel ones. When I had them checked on my XKR at about the same mileage a few years ago (before I sold it), they were all showing cracking of the plastic body.
I was wondering why no pictures of the underside?
Sorry tensioners
Hi John, as you probably already know, Jaguar started fitting metal chain tensioners from midnight 13th August 2001. I’ve no idea if the tensioners were changed prior to me buying the car in October 2009 and I haven’t even opened the cam cover to see if they are plastic or metal. Either way I’ve had 16 years of care free motoring, incuding three tours of Northern France for the 100th aniversary of the battle of the Somme, 75th anniversary of D-Day and a tour of Flanders. There are no concerns with chain rattle but if you are lucky enough to win the auction, you may wish to change the tensioners as a matter of course. Hope this helps,
Cheers, Geoff
Hi – have the timing chain pensioners been upgraded? The original plastic ones were prone to cracking with heat aging. I owned oe on these and had them changed together with water pump, also an unreliable part
Where can this car be seen?
Hi,
We can help arrange a viewing for you, if you could send an email to hello@tradeclassics.com first, as we need to do a few checks first.
Thanks,
Colin.

When were the cam belts replaced last
Hi, these engines do not have cam belts. They have timeing chains with automatic adjusters, so never need replacing. Hope this helps.
