Recent Buyer Review – Simon Welsh on 1st May “Found my ideal 90’s sports car on Trade Classics. Living in Bournemouth and the car being in the Midlands I relied heavily on the advert, photos and videos.
On picking the car up I wasn’t disappointed. Everything was as it had been described. So I got straight into it and drove home. What a drive put a smile on my face.
Thanks very much Trade Classics and I’m now looking out for my next classic to add to the collection.”.

Ollie is a financial manager who absolutely loves a good driving experience. As he takes us around his local area he tells us how much he loves the roads paired with the 4.2L V8 engine that you find in this 4200.
Please watch the ‘Meet the Owner’ video as he talks to us about how he broke his own rules when buying this car. He bought this car online and was quite hesitant as he drove it home. However, all worries were put to rest as he has cared for this car so much through his own maintenance, as well as utilising specialists when needed.
Like all petrol-heads, when you start to have a number of cars you love to drive, not all of them can be driven and so Ollie is looking to free up some garage space.
One of the main features Ollie was drawn to when buying this car was the ‘Verde Mistral’ shade of green. Respects are paid to the hall-of-fame designer Giorgetto Giugiaro.
Wheels & Tyres
This is fitted with 235/40/18 (front) and 265/35/18 (rear) Landsail LS588 tyres with excellent tread condition.
The overall condition of the bodywork is in good condition. It is worth noting a dent on the nearside panel behind the door. All badges have been replace by Ollie.
There are some some usual scratches around the car that the new owner may wish to remedy. Please watch all the images and videos to assess the condition.
Glass and Trim
We would recommend the new owner examine the trim as it could be worth replacing in some areas.
Glass has some peeling on rear window.
Maserati are renowned for their hand-crafted interior – you always get a sense of hard work and quality when you step in one of these. Covered in leather in shades of cream and grey it is screaming that Italian style. We have taken lots of videos and photos so please watch the ‘Interior Review’ video and all the photos in the gallery to see the overall condition.
Seats and Carpets
These seats are good for long distance driving and are really comfortable. The condition of the driver’s seat is showing signs of age, however, the others are in good condition as you’d expect.
The gauges and top of the dashboard are in excellent condition. As you work your way down towards the control system you notice some buttons are worn but still work as expected. All 1990s and 2000s suffer from “sticky button” syndrome, whereby the soft rubberised coating disintegrates.
Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
The steering wheel and pedals condition are typical of the cars mileage. There’s no sign of the usual wrinkling of the leather on the airbag cover.
There is something resoundingly beautiful about a Maserati engine – from how it looks to how it sounds; we will talk more about this shortly. Power-shift gear change and an option of ‘sport mode’ allow you to find the driving style that is best for you. Ollie really enjoys how comfortable the ride is.
Engine and Gearbox
The new owner is blessed with a 4.2L V8 that sounds beautifully poetic. Ollie found a little trick in making the gear changes feel better – please watch the ‘On the Road’ video as Ollie puts the 4200 engine and gears to the test. As we drive down the lanes you start to hear that ‘roar’ from the engine and it is quite something. A new clutch and F1 pump have been added 6,000 miles ago.
Suspension and Brakes
There were no knocks or rattles on our drive out with Ollie. The brakes work just as expected with the steering staying true. It has firm suspension but not uncomfortable.
The car really drives great. Darren and Ollie had a lot of fun when winding through the country roads. Darren says this is the car for those ‘Sunday morning drives’ and we can’t disagree with that.
Electrics and Other
Some modern features are included such as heated memory seats and bluetooth music and telephone connectivity. Ollie assures us all electrics work as expected such as the air-con and the backlit clock that usually deteriorates. In the ‘interior review’ video, Darren tests a lot of the electrics within the vehicle. Ollie mentions the fuel filler cap release does not always reset when cold. The heater matrix was replaced a year ago which tends to be an inevitable job on such models.
The car has enjoyed life with its previous owners that has been recorded and kept throughout. Ollie, the owner, is more than happy to talk about what he has done to the car, please ask him any questions in the comments section below.
Ollie is happy to renew MOT before purchase and has resolved the following issues; most importantly (for any 4200) the clutch, F1 pump, F1 pump relay (BMW replacement), heater matrix, and oil reservoir pipe nut have all been replaced. The cabin filter housing has been cleaned out thoroughly and the air con drain pipe has been cleared and modified.

HPi Check Results
– HPi clear – a new HPi check will be actioned and supplied by us.
Currently it seems to us that values for this model will be as low as they will ever go. Surely, if you want a quick fix of a throaty V8 at your fingertips to take on long drives Sunday morning, then this has to be a contender.
There is some attention that is needed to some parts that the new owner can feel rewarded by repairing. Ultimately these cars are designed to be used and enjoyed and judging by the mileage, this has certainly been the case.
Ollie has priced this car competitively and is looking forward to freeing up a bit of space in his garage.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Ollie the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.
If you have any specific questions about the vehicle then please use the comments section below. Ollie will receive a notification and will reply as soon as he can.
