Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner and Photographer

Classic roadster charm with supercharged performance - all wrapped in a sleek, folding hardtop design that makes every drive feel special.

Introduced as part of Mercedes-Benz’s bold move into the compact roadster segment, the SLK 230 stood out with its blend of innovation, style, and solid engineering. The car's defining feature was its retractable hardtop roof - an industry first at the time - which allowed drivers to enjoy the best of both coupe and convertible motoring at the push of a button.

Powered by a 2.3L supercharged inline-four engine (Kompressor), the SLK delivered punchy performance and responsive handling, wrapped in a sleek, compact body with sharp design lines. With a well-built interior, reliable automatic gearbox, and all the refinement expected of a Mercedes, the SLK 230 offered a versatile driving experience that felt equally at home on twisting backroads or daily commutes.

This example comes to auction with low ownership and very low mileage, having only travelled around ~400 miles since ~2021. The SLK comes with a current MOT valid until June 2026 and a fully functional mechanical hard top roof ready for the summer.

This listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

There's so much to love about this car - quick and sporty, it really goes and it's especially brilliant when the sun is out.

The current keeper Paul, has owned the SLK for just over a year. Paul tells us, "The Mercedes was up for sale and it was too good not to turn down, I was in the market for something sporty and quick, and when this one came up, I had to say yes. I've always been a fan of Mercedes and with such low mileage, it's almost like driving a new car".

With a new car on the horizon that provides a little more room Paul, reluctantly the car comes to market, he said, "It's a shame really, I'd love to keep the car but I need something that gives me a bit more room. I'm not using as much as I thought I would do and something that gives me more passenger room is what I need at the minute".

Paul will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

Sleek lines, sporty design, and classic Mercedes looks - the SLK brings compact, confident style with a modern twist.

Wheels and Tyres

The car comes with 15" 7-spoke wheels. All appeared to be in smart condition and we didn’t notice any major damage, just the occasional age-related marks here and there.

The front of the SLK is fitted with Goodyear Eagle NCT 5 tyres and Dunlop SP Sport at the rear. The tyres show a spec of 205/55 and 225/50 to the rear.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Mercedes and a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

image

Bodywork

The bodywork of the Mercedes-Benz showed well overall. Looking over the exterior, the panel lines looking straight and well-aligned. Both doors, bonnet and boot open and close without concern with the panels gaps all looking to line up well.

A couple of areas over the car may need some future attention as there are signs of bubbling to the wheel arches on all corners, although not majorly important in terms in the earlier stages of ownership. We also noted a small parking ding on the front passenger side quarter panel.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

The "Brilliant Silver" paint coverage is nice and even across the car with no noted differences in colour, although we did spot some slight marking on the front bumper edge.

Looking over the mechanical hood, this showed in great condition and was functioning well, a great feature for the warmer months but also well suited to changeable weather.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The windscreen, side windows, mirrors and lenses all appear in great condition and we could see no sign of major markings or chips on the glass. The seals look good around the car and in line with the rest of the condition.

We didn't note any issues on the rubber sections on the interior edges with the cabin sections showing well and the trim around the outside of the car shows well. Badges and emblems are present and correct.

image

Interior

Sporty comfort meets open air thrills - a driver focused experience with the top down.

Seats and Carpets

The cabin seats showed well and were finished in black hide leather. We noted some minor wear to the drivers seat outer edge and passenger seat base, but nothing really concerning.

Carpets in the front of the cabin show in smart condition. Storage net shows well and add extra space for the passenger. Underneath the cabin carpets on the floor pans showed no concerning issues.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

image

Dashboard

The black dash across the centre console all appears in great shape with no issues to report. White dials with orange needles looked decent and were all functioning as expected. The odometer showed with just ~14,469 miles at the time of our visit. A smart highlight was the carbon-effect weave inlay across the centre console.

The dials, switches, and controls all appear to be in good condition, with surfaces free from fogging or scratching. We noted no issues with any warning lights and the speedometer, fuel gauge, oil temp, rev counter and clock and were all functioning without concern when starting up and driving the car.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel shows only minor signs and is in keeping with the rest of the interior.

The auto gear selector also looks to be in great condition.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

A punchy supercharged 2.3L Kompressor engine, delivers ~193BHP making driving feel effortlessly quick and endlessly enjoyable.

Engine and Gearbox

Starting up from cold, we noted no concerns and the Mercedes performed without issue when running and out on the road. The car idled smoothly and its engine was easily capable of taking the driver up to speed in no time at all. The automatic gearbox showed no concerns with shifting the SLK 230 through to the gears.

We took the car out around some local roads with the current owner to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting up and more detail in the engine bay.

image

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or issue from the suspension when we were on the road in the car, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling. Looking over the underside of the car during our visit, noted no concerns, again showing well here.

The brakes bring the car to a halt in a straight line with no juddering reported through the pedal, the stopping power and control felt great.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

image

The Drive

The Mercedes-Benz delivers a sharp, composed driving experience that blends sporty responsiveness with confident performance. The current owner tells us more about his experience driving the car, "It's such a great drive out in the SLK, every trip out is as brilliant as it was the first time I drove it".

With its 2.3L Kompressor engine and well-balanced chassis, the SLK offers effortless acceleration and solid handling - overall, a smart motor designed for great performance.

image

Electrics and Other

During our time with the vehicle we noted that all switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and are in nice condition. The SLK 230 is complete with owners manual, Mercedes-Benz folio, first aid kit and warning triangle located in the boot.

The car also comes with a Mercedes-Benz CD stereo system. We tested the mechanical hardtop on our visit, which operated without concern. Paul told us everything was in working order, as far as he was aware.

History and Paperwork

With fewer than ~1,000 miles travelled in the last ~10 years, this low owner SLK is well set for many more miles ahead of it.

Coming from very low mileage and ownership, the SLK 230 SE has a current MOT valid until 02.06.2026. We cover the history of the Mercedes in our paperwork gallery, take a look over the previous servicing records and historic MOT certificates to see more behind the Mercedes.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 (only new keeper slip present as car has not been registered in current ownership) and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
