Introduction

What a fabulous looking car! It attracts attention and is a conversation starter every time I take it out. Just completed a 2 week, 2,680 mile tour of the Alps and Dolomites, down to Lake Garda. The car performed brilliantly on the mountain passes.

Only 1 previous owner before me.

I have had the car for just over 3 years and enjoyed every minute of ownership. I'm only selling in order to buy a similar car with greater luggage space for longer tours.

Market Auction

Colin, the seller, has created this listing themselves using our free Market Auction tool. Unlike our Curated Auctions, we haven’t photographed the car or written the listing, however we have completed 3 important security checks for your peace of mind.

V5C Checked

Colin provided a copy of the V5C logbook, which we verified against his photo ID for name and address confirmation.

ID Checked

Colin provided his photo ID, which we verified against the name and address on the V5C logbook.

History Checked

History check actioned using HPi, the industry’s top verification service, for finance, write-offs, and stolen records.

Exterior

The car is Mercedes Chalcedony Blue, a light blue metallic which really shows off the classic lines of this beautiful car.

The stainless steel wire wheels with 2-eared spinners really set off the period look.

Wheels and Tyres

The 15" Stainless Steel wire-spoke wheels, including a spare with Morgan logo cover, are shod in Excellent Falken Tyres with lots of tread on them

Bodywork

The bodywork is near perfect with barely a mark or stone chip. Regularly washed and polished the metallic paint gleams in the sun.

The body work is handcrafted aluminium so there is no rust whatsoever.

No scrapes or marks

Paint

The paint is perfect having never been touched up or damage repaired.

Regularly polished and washed after every outing, the car is as near showroom condition as it is possible to be - and belies its age.

I am the second owner and searched high and low to find the best Morgan Plus 4 in my price range: eventually traveling from Scotland to the South of England to buy this one.

Glass and Trim

The glass is unmarked and interestingly for such a traditional looking car, the windscreen is heated.

All trim is in near perfect condition including the wing mirrors and rear view mirror.

Interior

The beige leather with dark blue piping is complemented by dark blue carpets with beige piping giving the car a very luxurious feel and an air of quality.

With a walnut dash and cream Smiths gauges the interior is a fabulous place to sit.

Seats and Carpets

The car has the expensive, optional, reclining sports seats which are very comfortable even on long motorway drives.

The leather is in excellent condition with only the lightest wear evident on the drivers seat bolster.

The carpets are in excellent condition having been protected in the foot wells by removable rubber mats

Dashboard

The dash, as previously mentioned, is highly polished walnut with a traditional, locking, glove box.

Cream Smiths gauges supply information on Speed, RPM, Oil Pressure, Temperature, battery Voltage and a clock.

This dash was only available for a few years and, in my opinion, is one of the best looking dashboard configurations you will find on any year of Morgan.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The traditional look continues with a wooden Moto-Lita Steering wheel. It has 3 triple hole spokes in stainless steel and a stainless steel, Morgan logo, centre boss / horn push.

The gear stick is surrounded by beige leather with a stainless steel gear knob in excellent, unworn condition.

Mechanics

The Plus 4 is powered by the Ford Duratec 2 Litre engine which produces 145 HP. That is plenty of power for a car weighing less than a ton.

The engine is well tried and tested and with a timing chain it has proven a reliable power plant.

Engine and Gearbox

The Ford Duratec is reliable and economical, returning over 40mpg if driven sensibly. Even when using this cars sporting ability the car still returns excellent MPG.

At less than a ton and with 145 HP on tap, the Morgan is a lot of fun to drive and easily outpaces many modern sports cars. No official figures exist for the 0-60 however I believe it is very close to 7 secs.

Suspension and Brakes

With no ABS, firm pressure needs to be applied to the brakes. A new Master Cylinder was fitted last year and the brake fluid replaced. The car is light and stops promptly in a straight line when required.

The suspension is classic leaf springs at the rear and sliding pillar at the front. Both ends are damped, however, with adjustable AVO shocks so handling can be set up to suit the drivers preferences.

The standard Kingpins on this car were upgraded to hardened kingpins by the previous owner.

The Drive

Morgans are renowned for their engaging driving experience. An old school feel with no power steering is a lot of fun when the road gets twisty.

The car is light so the steering is responsive with driver input being transferred directly to the wheels and feedback from the tyres lets the driver know exactly what is going on. The car is quick through the bends if spirited driving is your preference.

However, the car is a joy to drive at moderate pace on country roads, enjoying the scenery and admiring glances from other road users!

Electrics and Other

There are no modern driving aids so electrics are basic. Other than a heated windscreen, Bluetooth stereo, and a very effective heater the electrics are minimal so nothing to go wrong!

History and Paperwork

The car was purchased in 2006 by a very knowledgeable and demanding owner, who specified a very comprehensive set of extras. Being an engineer and enthusiast he maintained the car himself between occasional main dealer services.

File of invoices and previous MOTs come with the car. Serviced by Revolutions (Scotland, Main Dealer) May 2024. Thorough mechanical inspection by independent classic car specialist prior to this summer's Alps tour.
Full Service History recorded in original owner's handbook.
Brake Master Cylinder, Damper Bush, and Auxiliary Belt replaced 2024.
New Battery 2022.

From Trade Classics:
This is a Market Auction listing, meaning we have not visited and photographed the car - instead the seller has supplied the images and written the description. However we’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID that matches the V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPi that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

Viewings are welcomed, so please get in touch with us via the 'contact us' page - we just need to speak to you first on the phone, have you register on the site, and also send in valid photo ID before confirming a suitable time to visit.

Like all our auctions, if there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - the Buyer's Premium is not refundable in any instance, just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
