Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

An Italian shaped beauty, styled by the famous Italian studio Pininfarina - introducing the pretty Peugeot 504.

The 504 was first introduced in 1968 as a mid-size front-engine, rear-wheel-drive saloon coupé, and convertible. Styled by Franco Martinengo at Pininfarina this coupé was born with dashing good looks.

Beautifully designed with curvy lines to contrast against the double rectangular headlights. The car went through small changes during its production - this example is a 2.0L Inline-4 which offers 106bhp, 4-speed manual gearbox, disc brakes and a top speed of 111mph.

This really is a rare car and coming to market from a family that's owned it for twenty-six years. Arguably the best colour combination that really makes this already pretty cabriolet stand our further as a thing of beauty.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Lee the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

Curvaceous bodylines that contrast against the boxy components set this cabriolet apart from the others.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels on this Italian masterpiece look great, reflective centre caps that really shine. With some light polishing these wheels would look excellent and ready for any summer show.

The new owner can rest assured as this car is equipped with very recent rubber, 4x new Firestone tyres and inner tubes were fitted in 2018. On our visit, we found plenty of tread left for the new owner. Please take a look at the exterior photos below.

Bodywork

The bodywork is generally really good on this rare Cabriolet, when getting really close we noticed some minor stone chips on the front. We also noticed some very slight bubbling of paint around the rear number plate, rear offside wheel arch and nearside front wing.

We captured the 504 in very bright sunlight which allows you to get a good view of the condition of the bodywork, the panel gaps and shut lines all look tight and in line with this cars age and mileage. Please take a look at the detailed exterior photos and videos.

Paint

This green with hints of blue looked great on our visit, it really catches the eye, especially with the matching green soft-top roof and chrome details.

Overall in great condition. You could take the car to the next level with a good polish and some attention one Sunday afternoon.

Please take a look at the exterior video to see the reflections the paintwork offers.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks in line with the age and mileage of the car, in great condition with no areas of concerns regarding chipping, cracks or scratches.

A similar story with the trim; the chrome bumpers look great and rubber seals look tight with lots of life left in them.

Interior

Fine cream interior and electrical extras - ready to comfort you along any road trip you desire.

Seats and Carpets

The seats offer luxurious seating for the driver and all their family.

The seats to appear a little dirty when first viewing and we believe that they will come up absolutely lovely with a deep detail.

All the carpets look excellent and clean with not much wear. Please take a look at the photos for a closer look at the interior of this car.

Dashboard

We love the three large dials presented in front of you on the dashboard, the centre console also holds various switches and dials for the heating, electric windows and a cigarette lighter - quite advanced for '74.

Lee reports all the dials gauges and buttons/switches are working to his knowledge, please take a look at the interior video to see the electric windows operating.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

An original two-spoke steering wheel and gearstick put you in full control of the mighty 504 Cabriolet. The gold lion emblem features on the steering wheel. The hand grip looks great with not much wear observed at all. The gear stick also looks good and inline with the rest of the car.

Mechanics

The 2.0L multi-injected inline-4 engine offer reliability and practically with effortless power.

Engine and Gearbox

Various engine options were available for the 504 Cabriolet and this fine example features a 2.0L multi-injection inline-4 which on paper will take you up to 111mph and 0-60mphs in 10.7s.

The paperwork that comes with the car confirms that it has been given the attention it deserves with lots of service history, part receipts and regular MOTs.

Please watch the video of the car starting from cold - it sounds good and smooth at idle. You'll see normal white water vapor on start up as it was a very cold day.

Lee reports the car drives well and smooth gear changes as you make speed.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension system consisted of MacPherson Struts at the rear and coil springs at the front. Being a Convertible model it was additionally fitted with rear semi-trailing arms.

With its huge suspension travel and strength, the 504 was suited to the rough road condition and proved extremely reliable. The 504 can often be found in areas of the world that doesn't offer the smoothest of roads such as Africa, Asia and Australia.

Please take a look at the paperwork section to see how well cared for this car has been over its 26 years of life with David.

The Drive

A comfortable and reliable drive in the 504, this classic although rare is a very usable car.

Lee reports a great drive in this Peugeot 504 Cabriolet, it was Lee's father-in-law's pride and joy - he loved taking it out on sunny weekends.

Electrics and Other

Lee reports all the electrics are working to his knowledge with no issues to report. The electric windows both wind up and down without fault.

Please take a look at the detailed media of this lovely 504 Cabriolet to really appreciate it.

History and Paperwork

Coming out of long-term ownership and we know this rare right-hand-drive / manual car is a truly desirable classic.

Please take a look through the photographs of the paperwork and history to see the amount of care this car has been given during David's ownership.

Hello everyone – just to say there’s a bit of interesting fact about this car. Lee has spoken to the previous owner and he has a VHS tape of Sean Bean driving the car. Apparently the car was in a TV series called ‘Screen One’ – here’s s a link to the show: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0297625/episodes?season=3
