Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

The Porsche 911 has for many years been an iconic benchmark in sports car performance, with the ~450BHP X50 Pack Turbo only serving to further cement its standing in the sports car hall of fame.

The Porsche 911 Turbo was introduced at the turn of the century in 2000, coming from the factory with a staggering ~420BHP coupled to an all wheel drive system that could reliably and quickly put the power down, as a result of this the Turbo quickly became a popular sports car and had no difficulty in upholding the reputation of the 911. Alongside its performance figures the 911 Turbo benefitted from the comfort and practicality of Porsche's German engineering, making it a well rounded car that could be enjoyed and appreciated by all.

Not only did the turn of the century bring us the Turbo’s improved horsepower and all wheel drive system, but it introduced a complete redesign for the vehicle, with smoother body lines, a longer nose, and a significantly lighter chassis that was 45% stiffer than its predecessor. All of this combined to represent a considerable milestone in Porsche’s history, with some marking the introduction of the 996 Turbo as the beginning of the Porsche everyday supercar age.

This particular car comes to market from ~7.5 year ownership, just 3 former keepers before, and a full service history. Presented in the ever popular colour of "Basalt Black Metallic" with black leather interior, it has had a service ~500 miles ago in February 2021 which included a brake fluid change too. This car is a factory "X50 Pack" which featured K24 turbos and increased the power out-put to ~450BHP. This triple black 996 Turbo presents in excellent condition given the mileage, it's a well cared for example.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Joseph the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Having previously had a 997 S, the 996 Turbo doesn’t feel like a downgrade at all, the experience of driving a 911 Turbo is simply addictive.

Having owned the car since 2015, Joseph spent quite some time looking for "the one" as he wanted a triple black car with sun roof. After finding this example he immediately fell in love with it and has enjoyed driving the car ever since, covering less than ~7,000 miles in his ~7.5 year ownership. When speaking with him about the car Joseph says he absolutely loves the way the car handles and the pull of the forced induction engine, referring to it as an "everyday supercar".

Wanting to make sure he got a vehicle with full service history, Joseph has made sure to keep its history full and has regularly maintained the vehicle, including fixing the coolant fittings and rear spoiler rams which can be commonplace issues on these vehicles. In recent years Joseph's usage of the car has dropped below 1,000 miles per year, and so he thinks it's time for the sale of his pride and joy. He will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Featuring the iconic and instantly recognisable 911 silhouette, the Turbo offers a wide body design and aggressive aero styling with its front and side vents.

Wheels and Tyres

The 911 Turbo is fitted with 18” Turbo Twist wheels and Bridgestone Potenza tyres, these both appear to be in good condition. The wheels overall seem to be free of any corrosion, buckling, or major curb damage, just some mild peeling to the "Turbo" centre caps.

The tyres look to have a good amount of tread left and also don’t show any signs of excessive wear to either the tread or the sidewalls. View the photo gallery to see each wheel up close.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the car looks to be in good stead, with panel gaps across the car looking good and tight, and we didn't observe any obvious dents to the bodywork. Also, we didn't observe any corrosion on our visit, sometimes the lower wheel arches can suffer as a result of road rash but these look great on this car.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The "Basalt Black Metallic" is a deep rich black, with a lovely metallic flake in direct sunlight, really adding to the sleek and refined shape of the vehicle. When inspecting the car we did not note any major scrapes, chips, or bumps to the paintwork, nor did we spot any mismatch in paint colour between panels. It's a car that belies the mileage covered, having been well cared for over time.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass on the vehicle is virtually free of any blemishes whatsoever, with both front and rear windshields being free of chips and cracks, and the same for the side windows.

The trim on the vehicle is also in good condition, with the front and side vents being undamaged and looking to be free of any damage too. A typical issue for 996's of this generation is fogging of the headlight lenses, not the case on this car as you'll see pictured.

Interior

The 911 Turbo provides a driver focused cockpit and a comfortable full leather interior meaning that both driver and passenger will feel at home in this luxurious and comfortable cabin.

Seats and Carpets

The leather seats look to be in good condition, with no obvious cracks, rips, or tears. This car was optioned with the softer "ruffled" leather from factory, providing a very comfortable seating position. There is some wear to the outer drivers seat bolster, but nothing to really detract from the experience and quality.

Given the luxurious feel of the rest of the 911 Turbo interior, the carpets are of equal quality, with a nice amount of pile and no obviously worn or discoloured areas.

Dashboard

The dashboard features the typical 911 five gauge layout, with black backed dials on this car, providing the driver with all relevant information at a glance.

These clocks are in fully working order and do not appear damaged or broken and the same can be said for the rest of the dashboard like the leather top is in equal condition.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel condition is in line with the rest of the interior, with no signs of heavy wear or scratches to the leather. Likewise the stitching is in good condition too, the wheel featuring the Tiptronic controls to allow easy change of gear from the automatic box.

The automatic gear selector is in good condition, but it does have a bit more wear as pictured.

Mechanics

The 3.6L flat six engine is complimented by the upgraded X50 pack twin-turbos, producing a staggering ~450BHP delivered to all the wheels.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine fires up on first ask, watch our "On The Road" video where you can see that it starts from cold without hesitation and proceeds to idle comfortably. A common issue that can come with age on this car are the coolant fittings, which have been renewed in the current ownership.

Joseph had fitted the car with a custom modular exhaust, rebuilt K24 turbos with custom billet wheels, a bigger throttle body, IPD plenum, larger intercoolers, and a custom air intake followed by a remap, meaning this car performs sensationally. The car has been returned to the stock items, the upgrades coming with the car should the new owner want them. If you want to see the car in action, watch our "On The Road" for a short trip in the car.

Suspension and Brakes

The 911 Turbo comes with a very capable suspension set up leaving very little to be desired, it handles extremely well under more active driving and manages to also provide a comfortable ride when cruising too.

This car features 6 pot callipers on the front, providing more than enough stopping power, even for ~420BHP. The callipers are painted a bright yellow and sit snugly behind the 18” wheels to offer maximum brake size for the size of the wheels and when inspecting the car the discs, pads, and callipers looked to be in good condition.

The Drive

As expected from a car of this calibre the drive provided by the 911 Turbo is sensational, with more than enough power, torque, and grip.

Not only that, but it offers one of the comfiest Porsche interiors available, still loved by many. Between performance, practicality, and comfort, the 911 Turbo ticks more than enough boxes.

Electrics and Other

Joseph has mentioned that everything is working as it should to his knowledge. This includes the rear spoiler which has had the rams replaced, often a common problem on these models, you'll see in the image gallery images of the spoiler sitting flush and extended.

This car also features and upgraded audio system, which includes a rather novel introduction of an Apple iPad where the standard hi-fi unit would sit. In addition to this, there is a Pioneer head-unit, and the Bose speaker system.

History and Paperwork

A full service history on this 996 Turbo, it has been well cared for over its life and comes to market from ~7.5 years ownership in desirable triple black specification.

Joseph has kept extensive records of the money spent on this car during his ownership. With many stamps in the service book, further receipts for servicing and maintenance work, this car is in great condition and has the paperwork there to back it up. The car most recently had a service ~500 miles ago in February last year, where along with oil and filters, the brake fluid was also renewed.

In the current ownership some common age related issues have been remedied on this car; coolant hoses and rear spoiler rams. In addition to this, the car has had KT24 turbos rebuilt which have custom billet wheels, and other works such as a bigger throttle body, IPD plenum, larger intercoolers, and a custom air intake and custom modular exhaust system. This, along with a remap, gives this car a bit more pep, and it features 6 pot calipers on the front brakes for improve braking too. The car is running the stock air intake and air-box now, but Included in the sale are the upgraded items should the new owner wish to have them.

Please note that the private registration pictured will not be part of the sale, the car has been returned to the age related registration of "YF02ZPZ".

The complete list of optional equipment on the car is as follows;

Heated Seats
Performance Kit for Turbo
Stainless Steel Entrance Panels with Typeface
Tiptronic S
Cruise Control
Lumbar Support
Top Tinted Windscreen
Rear Parking Assistance
Sun Roof
CD Preparation
