Introduction
Darren Rungasamy
The 997 offers stunning performance and dynamics, placing it as one the worlds ultimate drivers cars.
The Porsche 911 has long been considered one of the most complete and definitive driver's cars. The sixth generation 997 incarnation of the 911 was revised in 2004 following the success paved by the 996 models, which did much to enhance the 911’s reputation for both usability and drivability. With smoother and more refined styling, and increased power and tech, the 997 fulfilled a balanced analogue driving experience, despite the vast innovations and significant driver aids. Retaining its reputation for grip and refinement, the 997 was enhanced by the Carrera S models, which added further dimension to the model. Developing impressive torque and power, the Carrera S variants were also fitted with the desirable Sport Chrono package, PASM and improved braking. Placing the normally aspirated car in the sub 5 second 0-60 mph club, the high-quality materials and exacting engineering standards maintained Porsches' reputation for reliability.
This well-maintained 2008 Carrera S is finished in "Basalt Black Metalic" over a black full leather interior, comes to market after over ~10 years with our vendor. It has only had 3 former keepers, over ~£21,000 worth of spending since 2010, and comes with two keys and its full owner's wallet and booklets. It was last serviced ~700 miles ago and comes with an MOT to November 2025, and has just had a bore score check actioned by independent specialists "JZM Porsche".

The scoring is referred to as satisfactory – relative to what? satisfactory for an engine needing a rebuild? Satisfactory for an engine that’s got no problems?
As these cars as known for costing £15k upwards for rebuilds it would be really useful to know more about this or share the pictures of the scoring?
Hi BPB, the scoring is satisfactory compared to a completely clean engine, which is what this car is. To be clear 5 cylinders are completely as new,, and one has a light score mark (if compared to bad score this would be less than 1% of a problem car There is no need for any work and will not require any engine rebuild as long as the new owner takes care of the car as I have.
Thanks for clearing it up, have you installed things like lower temp thermostat?
Hi. No modifications on the car. The bore scoring is putting the wind up buyers, but when buying a well looked after 997.1 there really isn’t a genuine worry. Put premium unleaded in, always allow the engine to warm up properly and keep it garaged or covered and it’ll be good as gold. Porsche says approx 1 in 10 may suffer but by 17 years would have been an issue by now (which is why I got the report to prove it). This car is going for a steal ?
Hi do these engines need a timing belt change and if so when was it last done please
Hi Notdoc. This model has a timing chain, which doesn’t need replacing. Belts themselves should do at least 150,000 miles, which is well above the cars current mileage anayway. When I had the Bore Score Check this year the car had a full inspection and is in clean health (nothing needed). Since that the car has been garaged and very sparingly used for sale.
