Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

Released in 1986, the A70 generation Toyota Supra was launched when RWD layouts were being replaced by FWD hot hatches.

Toyota harnessed and improved the appeal of what was considered an outdated trend. However, this was no dinosaur. The high-efficiency multivalve engine, anti-lock braking, computer-aided geometry on the suspension layout and electronic damper control shifted the Supra upmarket and became a showcase for Toyota's technology. Powered by a 3.0-litre ~200BHP straight-six fuel-injected engine mounted under an expanse of a bonnet, the Supra proved to fulfil its role as the brand's flagship sporting model. For those looking for refinement, performance and comfort in a stylish and fully equipped package, buyers were also reassured by the traditional virtues of a Toyota. Offering plenty of practicality, ease of driving, reasonable running costs and, of course, a legendary reputation for reliability, there was no sacrifice in core values.

This time-warp example has been with the owner for the past 30 years, and in that time, the car has only covered a remarkably low ~62,485 miles. Certainly one for the enthusiasts – as you probably know, finding a nice Supra is becoming increasingly difficult.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Geoff the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The low-down sleek look is what I liked about the Supra – 31 years on it still looks just as good.

Registered in 1990, this Toyota Supra has been owned by just two former keepers and Geoff, who has owned the car for the past 30 years. As you can see from the MOT history, within Geoff’s ownership, he has covered approximately ~17,000 miles.

The lack of use in the past 10 years, less than ~3,000 miles, is what’s made Geoff decide to part with the 90s classic, as he feels someone else should enjoy driving it. Please feel free to ask Geoff any questions about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

The pop-up headlights give a nod to '80s styling while the smooth lines take the car towards the future.

Wheels and Tyres

The original wheels are in good condition for their age. There are some minor marks and a small amount of corrosion, but nothing your local wheel refurbisher couldn’t address. The tyres match on each corner and all have a good amount of tread remaining.

Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

image

Bodywork

The Supra's bodywork is in excellent condition, with no visible blisters spotted. The panel gaps look to be matching. The only thing we did notice was that the sill trim on the offside front wing has come away a little.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Finished in "Super Red II", the paintwork is, as far as Geoff knows, original. As you would expect, there are the odd chips here and there, but these are very minimal.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

Looking at the windows, these are all in good condition with no noticeable scratches. The plastic trims and seals are also in good condition, with no major fading or perishing.

image

Interior

Like a time warp, the interior of the Supra takes you straight back to 1990.

Seats and Carpets

The original grey fabric interior is in excellent condition, with no obvious signs of wear or damage to the front seats. The rear seats and both door cards are also in excellent condition.

The carpets throughout the cabin are in excellent condition with no real wear to mention. A set of fitted mats is in place, which have some minor wear but can be easily replaced. Inside the boot, the boot is spotless; there is a full original tool kit, and the spare wheel is in good condition.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

image

Dashboard

The grey dashboard is in good order with no splits or damage. The instrument cluster is in good order, the instruments are said to be working correctly, and the odometer shows a reading of ~62,485 miles.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original leather bound steering wheel has some light shining on the rim in keeping with its age and mileage, and has controls for cruise control as pictured. The automatic gear selector is in good condition with no real signs of wear.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

image

Mechanics

A 3.0-litre straight-six is the star of the Supra, producing ~204BHP and ~187lb-ft of torque.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.0-litre fires up without hesitation, quickly comes to a smooth idle and runs with no issues reported by Geoff.

An automatic gearbox is fitted in the Supra, the change is smooth and the car pulls well through the gears. Also fitted is an overdrive, which is operated from a switch mounted to the gear lever.

image

Suspension and Brakes

On the road, the Supra handles great, with no knocks or bangs coming from the suspension, and the brakes bring the car to a stop in a straight line and with no issues reported by Geoff.

image

The Drive

Bring back the '90s! It looks like we did! A nostalgic experience blending classic '90s charm with solid performance. Powered by a smooth 3.0-litre inline-six engine, it delivers a satisfying balance of power and refinement, especially with the five-speed manual gearbox.

The car feels planted and composed, with responsive steering and a comfortable ride, making it enjoyable on both twisty roads and long motorway cruises. Its pop-up headlights, smooth styling, and driver-focused cockpit add to the retro appeal.

image

Electrics and Other

The Supra is pretty advanced for its age, packed with features such as electric windows, mirrors, and air conditioning. All of these are said to be working correctly, and there is minimal wear to any of the switchgear. There is a Bluetooth head unit fitted, enabling easy phone connectivity.

image

History and Paperwork

This '90s classic has been in safe hands for the past ~30 years, just 2 keepers before that, it comes with the original books and 2 keys, and presents in excellent condition.

There are a number of service stamps up until 1995, where the Supra had covered 40,062 miles. More recently, the car received front and rear brake pads in 2017, a set of spark plugs and rocker gaskets in 2021. Then there are several MOT certificates which help verify the low mileage.

A desirable '90s icon, unmolested and original with low ownership and low mileage – cars like this don’t come along that often from the '90s, so certainly a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of a Japanese modern classic.

We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including verification of photo ID, the V5C, and an HPI check. This confirms the car is not stolen, written off, or subject to outstanding finance. Please note: This check does not verify mileage.

We’ve summarised the car based on the seller’s information above. As always, we go to great lengths to photograph and film the car in high-resolution detail so you can make your own informed assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So grab a cuppa, relax, and enjoy reviewing everything in this listing.

Viewings are welcome for all our listings. Please get in touch to arrange a time — we’ll just need to speak with you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If there’s anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments section below before placing your bids. Bids cannot be retracted and form a binding contract if you win — just like in a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
