Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

The RS6 Avant Plus packs supercar power and performance into a sleek, sporty and practical estate.

Audi used the "Avant" nameplate for its estate cars, but the "Plus" after the RS6 wasn't about extra luggage space. Produced for just six months with only 999 units, the RS6 Plus could challenge supercars of its time while comfortably carrying a family of five and their luggage. Like the standard RS6 Avant (2002-2004), the RS6 Plus had wider, flared wheel arches and a distinctive black-rimmed front grille with a small RS6 badge. The car also featured black roof rails, a small rear spoiler, and a modified exhaust system with oval black tailpipes to handle the extra power. Under the bonnet, the RS6 Plus had a 4.2-litre turbocharged engine, developed by Audi and enhanced by Cosworth, delivering ~30 more BHP than the regular RS6, bringing the Audi up to ~473 BHP overall from the factory, and paired with the same all-wheel-drive system with a Torsen centre differential.

This car comes to market from ~10 year ownership with 4 former keepers logged. This example has had very little in the way of additional non-factory modifications, making it a very original example. Finished in the ever-impressive and popular "Sprint Blue" and with a wealth of factory-fitted optional extras such as leather seats with Alcantara centres, Tiptronic transmission, sports suspension, carbon weave inserts, and an electric slide/tilt sunroof, plus many more features. The car has been well used, covering some ~70,000 miles in the current ownership, and so could benefit from some work to bring it up to a standard it once was.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Ian the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

With Audi's rally status heritage, the RS6's sporty stance gives it a low and aggressive look which still turns heads today.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 19" Audi 5-spoke alloys finished in dark grey, all the wheels show notable marks and curbing as pictured. These would benefit from refurbishment, the dark colour resulting in the curbing being more visible.

The RS6 is fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tyres. The front and rear tyres showed 255/35. These are dated from 2018 with a good amount of tread remaining, although several marks were found on the edges due to the curbing.

Bodywork

Looking over the Audi during our visit, the car maintains good visual panel gaps, and all doors and the boot open and close smoothly. We did have to prop the bonnet up as the gas struts didn't keep this open. We noted a dent in the offside door, which showed creasing on the body panel. There were some slight scratches with a ding noted on the nearside front quarter panel. There was also a crack visible on the rear bumper.

We have highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to review all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Some say the popular "Sprint Blue" paintwork is the fastest of all the Audi colour options! This example has an even finish across all the panels and overall shows in good condition. We noted some signs of stone chips to the bonnet and front bumper, as well as marks on the rear offside interior door sill. There were slight signs of paint marking at the nearside base of the door.

The images are taken from several different angles to showcase the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass around the RS6 looked good, and we didn't notice any cracks in these areas during our visit. The trim and window seals were in the same condition.

The Audi front and rear badging, along with the RS6 motifs, appeared smart. The rear lights were in good shape, although they showed signs of clouding on the glass in the front sections, and a seal looks like it needs replacing too. The sunroof and its glass were in good condition and operated without issue.

Check out the exterior gallery and review video. We guide you through all areas of the car as if you were standing there yourself, so you can see in greater detail how the car is presented.

Interior

The sporty cabin of the RS6 boasts Recaro seats with Alcantara inserts and carbon fibre interior trim, a really stylish place to be.

Seats and Carpets

The seats are comfortable, with Recaro and RS6 embossed in the leather. The seats are a smart blend of leather and Alcantara for that extra touch of luxury. The driver's seat did have some noticeable wear to the seat base and edges. The passenger seat and rear seats showed well without any major concerns. The front seats also feature electronically adjustable positioning and heating.

The main carpet in the interior is in great condition, and the carpet in the boot also looks great. Underneath, the carpet sections showed no issues with the base matting. We cover the cabin area of the RS6 in further detail in our interior review video.

Dashboard

The dashboard presented very well, with no visible cracking or warping when we inspected the car. The dash showed ~121,736 miles on the clock when starting up. All the numbers and dials on the dash were clear and legible.

A notable feature of the Audi was the carbon weave finish on the dash and centre console area, which stood out impressively. The "Quattro" dash badging was also in great condition. The gauges, switches, and controls were all in great condition, with surfaces free from fogging or scratches. Our interior gallery section offers a closer look at the Audi dashboard.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Audi black steering wheel is finished in a leather-bound trim and is in good condition, with no obvious signs of damage or wear to the main wheel. The RS6 motif at the base of the wheel does show some wear.

The gear selector is in great condition. The Tiptronic paddle shift behind the main wheel was verified as working during our on-the-road drive with the current owner.

Additional images of the cabin area, including the steering wheel, are available in our "Interior Gallery" section to see more details of what the RS6 has to offer.

Mechanics

The monstrous V8, 4.2L, twin-turbo is enough to deliver ~473BHP and a 0-60MPH time of just ~4.5 seconds, in a car weighing over ~2,000KGs.

Engine and Gearbox

The powerful V8 engine appears to be in good visual condition. In our cold start video, you can see and hear the engine start up smoothly, without any issues, smoke, or unusual noises. On the road, the engine performed flawlessly.

You may notice in the gallery that we used a wooden strut to prop up the bonnet, as the gas struts were no longer supporting it. Check out our "On the Road" video, where we showcase the engine start-up and take the RS6 for a drive around the local area to learn more about the car.

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs, or other issues with the suspension while on the road, and it gave us no concerns regarding its performance or handling. The sporty brakes felt great and were easily able to bring the Audi to a stop.

Checking the underside of the car showed no major concerns. We cover the underside of the car in more detail in our 'Mechanical Gallery' section. Head over to our video section, where we've summarised our visit in more detail for you to view. We take you through the mechanical elements of the car and give you an overview of what’s on offer.

The Drive

The Audi RS6 Plus is a rare, high-performance estate that combines supercar power with everyday practicality. Featuring a turbo assisted 4.2-litre engine, aggressive design, and the ability to comfortably accommodate both speed and family, this responsive motor ensures you travel in style and comfort while delivering impressive performance on the road.

Our 'On the Road' video provides an overview of the car and its performance while driving.

Electrics and Other

All switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and in good condition. Ian mentioned that he has had no issues with the electrical elements of the car and confirmed that everything is working correctly to his knowledge.

Optional extra equipment codes show the Audi as being supplied with: electric slide/tilt sunroof with sun screen/sun blind, electric seat adjustment for both front seats, automatically dimming, electrically foldable/adjustable/heated exterior mirrors, navigation system with colour screen, park distance control front and rear, and additional voltage and oil temperature instruments.

We tested the electric sunroof, stereo system, and electric windows as part of our 'On the Road' video, all of which worked without issue. In the boot, a 6-CD changer and toolkit were also present.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~10 years ownership, a solid service history and a great amount of factory fitted extras, the RS6 is a drivers example, ready again to be driven and enjoyed, it could benefit from some work to restore it to the standard it once was.

The Audi comes with two sets of keys, the service manual, navigation system operation instructions, and an RS6-branded portfolio. Except for missed services in 2011 and 2013, regular checks have been carried out and recorded in the service manual from 2005 to 2024. The service book contains 4 Audi service stamps and 20 specialist stamps throughout its history. For a full overview of the service history, take a look through the paperwork gallery.

Optional extra equipment codes show the Audi was supplied with: power steering, leather-trimmed multi-function sports steering wheel with Tiptronic system, sports suspension with variable shock absorption, electric slide/tilt sunroof with sun screen/sun blind, electric seat adjustment for both front seats, rear seat bench with split-fold, heat-insulating windscreen, side and rear glass with sunshield, and radio remote-controlled central locking.

The Audi also has carbon weave inserts, automatically dimming electrically foldable/adjustable/heated exterior mirrors, navigation system with colour screen, park distance control front and rear, dynamic headlight range adjustment, multi-function display/on-board computer with check control, 19" alloy wheels, leather seat covering, Recaro sports seats in the front, additional voltage oil temperature instruments, and reinforced bumpers fitted.

Please note, the private registration will not be sold with the car, the car will go back to an age appropriate registration number.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition.
