Stylish, aggressive looks, Quattro all-wheel drive and exceptional supercar performance - it's easy to see why the R8 is Audi's flagship sports car.

The Audi R8, based on the Audi Le Mans Quattro concept car, first appeared at the 2003 International Geneva Motor Show and the 2003 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The R8 road car was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show on 30 September 2006 drawing high praise from the motoring industry.

2010 saw the release of the R8 Spyder, sharing the same chassis of the Lamborghini Gallardo and a choice of either a 5.2L Quattro or 4.2L engine option. For head-turning design there’s very few cars better engineered for this than the R8 Spyder. The open-top two-seater took the flagship sports cars desirability to another level with its incredible performance, looks and build quality.

With ~518 BHP and a 0-60mph time of just ~3.7 seconds available from its thunderous V10, the R8 Spyder is a really powerful machine and its mainly thanks to the Audi magnetic ride technology and Quattro all-wheel drive that the car handles as well as it does.

With just one former owner, low mileage at ~20,383 on the clock and regular Audi dealership servicing through its life, the R8 Spyder is well worth a look if you are in the market for a great looking and great performance sports car.

Exterior

The R8 packs in plenty of performance and head-turning style in its drop top body, and with more than enough quality on show, the R8 Spyder is a real drivers' car.

Wheels and Tyres

The R8 sits proudly on a great set of Gen 1 Snowflake 19" wheels. The condition of the wheels is excellent with barely any signs of kerbing or markings on these.

Audi branded centre caps show well with the 4 interconnected rings. Finished in a high level of polished silver, the wheels on the Spyder are a real standout section of the cars exterior.

The wheels are fitted with a set of Pirelli P-Zero tyres with a spec of 235/35 to the front and rear. The condition of tyres looks good with no major wear or damage to these. Date codes are noted as showing from 2018 on the tyres.

Bodywork

The bodywork is in excellent condition; looking around the car, there are no dings that we noted. The door shut lines are visually equal and matching, as are the bonnet and front boot panels.

Paint

Finished in a fantastic coat of Ibis White (Paint code LY9C), the level of cover and finish looked excellent walking around the exterior, a really fantastic example of an R8 Spyder. We noted no concerning signs of paint chipping or markings when looking around the exterior.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Glass and Trim

All of the glass sections around the Audi showed really well with windscreen, windows, mirrors and lenses all appearing in very good condition with no cracks, chips or significant scratching that we observed on our visit. We struggled to find any concerns about this car overall.

The seals around the R8 were showing in excellent condition on the car and in line with the rest of the condition of the vehicle.

Interior

With its show of premium materials in the interior including carbon fibre accents and luxurious leathers, the R8 Spyder really shows its quality in the cabin area.

Seats and Carpets

The interior looks in excellent condition; another highlight area of the car. Heated, adjustable front seats show very nicely and have barely a mark or scuff on them.

The contrasting white stitch against the black of the seats and interior looks very smart and provides the driver and passenger with an inviting cabin area. Roof lining shows very well as do the carpet sections and door cards when sat inside the Spyder.

Taking the roof down is actioned by a simple press of a button, this process is fully automated and really quiet with the rear window glass protector setting back into place after the motion is complete. It's lightweight soft top opens and closes fully automatically and can be lowered on the move, at speeds up to ~31MPH, so if the sun suddenly shines you’re ready to take advantage of it.

The benefit, of course, is that with the roof down there is all the more opportunity to hear the roar of the lovely V10. Please take a look at the images and videos for a more detailed view of the inside of the Audi.

Dashboard

The dials present really well with no signs of fogging or display issues with the odometer showing a reading of ~20,383 miles on clock during our visit. To the centre, the Audi Navigation main screen shows the sat nav function system with colour screen.

In front of the driver, the instrument cluster with MPH speedometer, clock, tachometer, and trip odometer are presented with no scratches, marks or issue. A real highlight in the cabin area are the cabin fibre accents present on the dash surround, a great touch adding an extra level of sports styling to the R8's interior.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

As you’d expect from Audi styling, the R8's cabin is a clearly and logically laid-out, with everything the driver needs within easy reach.

The steering wheel is in excellent condition with barely a mark on it. The multi-function leather bound wheel keeps the driver focused on the road whilst providing media functions for stereo and call options along with manual 'paddle-shift' levers seated behind the flat based Audi branded steering wheel.

Being an automatic, a gear shift lever is available and displays very well with its polished finish grip looking great. We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

With an on the road experience like no other, the R8 delivers ~518 BHP and a 0-60mph time of just ~3.7 seconds from its thunderous V10 - enough to keep even the most seasoned driver excited.

Engine and Gearbox

The R8 Spyder is a real powerhouse on the road and an incredible driving machine. Capable of delivering some seriously blistering performance, just the sound of it alone is very impressive.

We take the car on a short drive and go into further detail about the Audi, taking it out on some city roads to get a better sense of what this car is all about. Hossein worked through the gears including showing us the manual paddle override without issue, we observed no problems with the transmission when we were out on the open road.

We take a closer look around the engine bay section and highlight more about the mechanics in the cold start section of the mechanical review video. We noted no signs of smoke or excessive noise when the car was started up and running - it was clear the car has been looked after mechanically over its life through the Audi dealership servicing.

Suspension and Brakes

On the drive out, Hossein took us around the city roads - we heard no knocks, bangs or squeaks from the suspension and overall the car performed as to be expected with no observed issues. The brakes felt to have no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey and brought the car to a stop nicely.

The Drive

There’s a good amount of grip present in the R8 thanks to the Quattro all-wheel drive system. This means the driver can use all of that power and performance for the majority of the driving time.

The Audi also features hydraulic rack pinion power steering which gives a high level of precision on the road. The R8 prides itself on ride feel and is tuned for good comfort, thanks to the Audi magnetic ride technology. This uses magnetic fields in the shock absorbers to adjust their response to road conditions and adapt to the driver’s style.

Electrics and Other

The R8 Spyder has a great level of tech as part of its setup providing plenty of modern driver conveniences. The Audi navigation system features an 6.5" multi-touch screen giving access to integrated satnav, a premium stereo system powers the B&O speaker setup and a host of other extras including a Cobra Thatcham Category 5 alarm system are present.

Some more modern conveniences include; electrically auto-dimming, power-folding, adjustable and heated side mirrors, park distance control in front and rear, power adjusted heated seats, LED headlamps and the impressive folding soft top roof which will close and open within ~20 seconds on each operation.

Hossein told us that he has no issues with the electrical elements on the car and to the best of his knowledge, everything was working as it should do.

History and Paperwork

Audi dealership service, excellent condition, just one former owner, with recent servicing and MOT, this is a very well kept example of an R8 Spyder - what more could you need?

The Audi's MOT is valid until 26th March 2024 having been recently completed along with a vehicle service. The R8 comes with a great level of servicing history completed by Audi directly.

The direct servicing covers; March 2023 where the car had its oil changed, vehicle Inspection, brake fluid change, new spark plugs, dust and pollen filter replacement and new multitronic oil costing over £400 at Audi London Belgravia. The same levels of servicing were then carried out by Audi of Watford in December 2021, July 2021, January 2020, March 2018, August 2015, April 2014, June 2012 and August 2011.

The R8 has also had a shock absorber replaced in February 2023 to pass its MOT which cost over £2,000 for the total works. The car also had its air-con pressure tested and re-gassed in June 2022 and front brake pads and discs replaced in July 2021 at a cost of over £1,200.
