Introduction

This stunning 2005 Aston Martin DB9 Volante is my 3rd Aston, and they just seem to get better. Be prepared for people wanting their photos taken with it, and the neighbours wanting a drive in it!

This was a recent purchase for myself, bought it with the intention of taking a European road trip with my son next year.

I now have the opportunity to purchase an 80s car from my bucket list, so unfortunately the Aston needs to go to a new home to free up the space required.

Market Auction

Kenneth, the seller, has created this listing themselves using our free Market Auction tool. Unlike our Curated Auctions, we haven’t photographed the car or written the listing, however we have completed 3 important security checks for your peace of mind.

V5C Checked

Kenneth provided a copy of the V5C logbook, which we verified against his photo ID for name and address confirmation.

ID Checked

Kenneth provided his photo ID, which we verified against the name and address on the V5C logbook.

History Checked

History check actioned using HPi, the industry’s top verification service, for finance, write-offs, and stolen records.

Exterior

Finished in Oyster Pearl Silver, the bodywork has even shut lines and panel gaps.

The mohair roof is in very good condition with no rips. It's water tight and was subject to an operational overhaul earlier this year.

I've uploaded a walkaround video so you can hear the idle and see the whole car: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/2XPIBjeU3iY

Wheels and Tyres

Upgraded Alloy wheels that really enhance the colour combination, fitted with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres in late 2023.

They have light kerb damage on the rim and 1 would benefit from refurbishment, but they're not bad.

Bodywork

For a 20 year old car the paintwork is superb with only small patches of bubbling in the usual place for a DB9, as pictured in the gallery. They're all on the passenger side. Please note that the bubbling above the chrome vent is a reflection on the chrome not on the chrome itself.

There is a scratch on the passenger rear wheel arch (shown in photos).

The petrol flap has stuck in the release position, so does not lock down.

Paint

The paint appears even in shine and texture across the whole car, with no signs of repairs or re-spray.

Glass and Trim

Glass and trim are all in very good condition with no chips or scratches.

Interior

Deep red leather wraps you up in the cabin - this remains a very special place to sit. The traditional Aston Martin "fly-off" handbrake adds a touch of classic flare that few cars can match!

Seats and Carpets

The car comes with electrically powered and heated front seats.

There are no signs of wear on any of the seats, steering wheel, or trim.

The pinnacle above the instrument panel seems to have shrunk slightly in the sun. I’m told this is a relatively easy fix.

Carpets show no signs of excessive wear.

Dashboard

All dials and instruments are in working order.

The car is fitted with Apply CarPlay to allow modern media connections.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Steering wheel shows no signs of wear.

Mechanics

Very low mileage for a 20 year old car, with an extensive service history that includes the all-important replacement of coil packs and overhaul of roof mechanism.

Good clean MOT history.

Engine and Gearbox

Fantastic V12 that absolutely purrs, and the coils were changed at 45k (receipt is in the service folder). I've uploaded a walkaround video so you can hear the idle: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/2XPIBjeU3iY

Gears shift effortlessly. The car has sport mode and paddle shift, which is responsive up and down through the gears.

Suspension and Brakes

The car brakes well and straight with no knocks or clunks on a drive.

The Drive

Starts on the button first time every time hot or cold.

There is no smoke of any description and the car idles well on tick over.

Drives faultlessly.

Electrics and Other

All electrics work as they should.

The roof mechanism was subject to operation overhaul in March of this year (receipt with folder).

History and Paperwork

Extensive service history with majority being main dealer and a couple of specialist.
Stamped service book and manual with the car.

Car has an excellent service history and MOT record.
Folder containing invoices and receipts with the car detailing some of the work carried out in recent years.
The car has had Apple CarPlay fitted, which apparently connects through Bluetooth.

From Trade Classics:
This is a Market Auction listing, meaning we have not visited and photographed the car - instead the seller has supplied the images and written the description. However we’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID that matches the V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPi that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

Viewings are welcomed, so please get in touch with us via the 'contact us' page - we just need to speak to you first on the phone, have you register on the site, and also send in valid photo ID before confirming a suitable time to visit.

Like all our auctions, if there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - the Buyer's Premium is not refundable in any instance, just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
