Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Editor and Photographer

A powerful, supercharged grand tourer blending luxurious comfort with effortless cruising.

Launched in 1996 to critical acclaim, the X100 generation Jaguar XK series marked a triumphant return to form for the Coventry marque, successfully channelling the spirit of the legendary E-Type. However, it was the introduction of the supercharged XKR in 1998 that truly solidified the model’s legendary status.

Powered by a forced-induction version of Jaguar’s highly regarded AJ-V8 engine, the XKR transformed a remarkably elegant grand tourer into a devastatingly fast muscle car in a velvet suit. Recognisable by its subtle bonnet louvres, mesh grille, and discrete badging, the X100 XKR offered an addictive blend of effortless British luxury and sports car-slaying performance. Today, it stands as a highly coveted modern classic, representing the absolute pinnacle of Ford-era Jaguar design and engineering.

Coming from over 6.5 years with our vendor, this well-kept 2001 XKR finished in 'Anthracite Metallic Black' with an 'Ivory' leather interior, has just ~68,717 miles and comes with an impressive 14 service stamps. Over £11,000 worth has been spent on the car since 2021, and it comes with its full owners' wallet with booklets and two keys. It was last serviced around 3,000 miles ago and the owner has just added a year's MOT.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Adrian the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

A deeply relaxing place to spend time, the XKR is a masterpiece of modern classic design.

Impressed by its strong service history and mechanical condition, Adrian acquired the XKR in 2019. Garaged when not in use, the car has been driven carefully as a leisure vehicle. Appreciating its refinement, space, and style, Adrian has diligently maintained both its mechanical upkeep and cosmetic appearance.

However, due to decreasing use over the last few years, he has decided it is time for the car to find a new home where it can be fully enjoyed.

Adrian will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Defying its age, the exterior is in excellent shape thanks to £2,500 worth of cosmetic refinement.

Wheels and Tyres

The 20” BBS 5-spoke alloys are in excellent condition with no significant marks. Adrian told us they were refurbed in 2022, at a cost of ~£2,000.

The front and rear of the car are fitted with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres, with the front date from 2018 and show a spec of 255/35 and 285/30 to the rear - these are date coded from 2021. There are MOT advisories for both front tyres.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

The exterior presents very well, with no visible signs of corrosion. The body panels align correctly with consistent, visually even shut lines. All doors operate smoothly, and the passenger door drop glass functions perfectly. While there are a couple of minor dents on the driver's side door and a very light imperfection on top of the nearside rear wing (just below the C-pillar), these do not detract from the car's overall excellent appearance and could easily be addressed by a specialist.

Underneath, the vehicle looks structurally sound. While there are minor, age-related wear on the underside of the footwells and sill lips, these appear to be superficial. The rest of the floorpan, boot floor, engine bay and wheel wells look good. Both subframes have seen attention in the last 6 years.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The black paintwork displays a consistent colour depth across the vehicle, showing very few chips or signs of wear. This is aided by a £2,500 cosmetic refinishing treatment carried out in 2025.

While mild swirl marks are visible in direct sunlight, the finish retains a good lustre. There is a slightly matte finish around the offside rear wheel arch, but overall, the paintwork comfortably exceeds expectations for a car of this age.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windscreen and windows are in good condition throughout. While the nearside front fog light lens is somewhat cloudy, the remaining lights and lenses are smart.

The windscreen surround trim has been repainted, and we spotted signs of ageing on the side window finisher trim. Both bumpers are securely mounted and free of scuffs, despite a few flat spots on the front item, and the grille over-riders show mild surface wear.

Interior

The cabin feels remarkably fresh, inviting, and well-preserved.

Seats and Carpets

The driver seat display mild surface wear consistent with the vehicle's age. It shows typical creasing, light bolster wear, and minor leather discolouration, but remains entirely free of tears. Both the passenger and rear seats are in good condition.

The carpets are in decent shape with no signs of dampness, and the original floor mats will be included.

The boot trim is tidy, reflecting careful use throughout its life.

Dashboard

The dashboard presents very well, featuring clean blemish-free padding and an attractive veneer finish. All controls, switches, and dials are in good condition and function with no reported faults. The air conditioning blows ice-cold. The centre console is in good condition, noting only mild wear on the cubbyhole lid.

The remaining interior trim is in good order, with no issues to note other than slight discolouration on the headlining.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both the steering wheel and gear lever present well, further reflecting the vehicle's history of careful ownership.

Mechanics

Regular maintenance ensures the XKR remains reliable, sharp, and rewarding.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine starts without hesitation, with all warning lights remaining off as it settles into a steady, even idle. A mild squeal was initially noted from the auxiliary belt, but this subsided completely once the engine reached operating temperature. There was no unwanted exhaust smoke, and no fluid leaks were observed during our visit.

The engine bay presents well, showing healthy hoses and ancillaries. The car has clearly been well-maintained, with any mechanical issues addressed immediately.

Both the catalytic convertor and exhaust have been replaced in the last 3 years.

The gearbox operates flawlessly, delivering smooth and seamless upshifts through the ratios. When kick-down is engaged, it responds with strong, rapid, and decisive downshifts.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension settings work exactly as they should, with absolutely no knocks or clunks from the wheels when you accelerate or brake. The ride is smooth, soaking up bumps and uneven road surfaces without any drama.

The braking system performed flawlessly, operating quietly and without any negative feedback or vibration through the steering wheel.

The Drive

The 4.0-litre AJ-V8 supercharged engine is renowned for its smooth power delivery and reliability. It offers over a 25% increase in power compared to the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre unit, maintaining a highly impressive 0–60 mph time with no significant impact on fuel economy.

Around the lanes, the XKR is effortlessly manageable, with light yet precise steering. However, its true appeal lies in the straights, where the comfort-oriented suspension allows it to glide with remarkable stability and silence.

Acceleration is effortless and linear, cementing its status as an exceptional cruiser. On an open stretch of road, the engine demonstrated its devastating power delivery, with the subtle, characteristic whine of the supercharger providing a thrilling conclusion to the test drive.

Adrian has not reported any issues with the oil pressure or engine temperature. It was last serviced in 2024, around 3,000 miles ago.

Electrics and Other

We didn't test everything during our visit but Adrian told us everything was working as far as he was aware.

The soft top hood is in good condition, showing only mild, age-related surface marks.

The electric motors operate smoothly and raise or lower the hood without any signs of strain.

Additionally, the car comes complete with its leather hood cover.

History and Paperwork

A strong maintenance history is also backed up by more than £11,000 in receipts since 2021.

First registered in August 2001 by Guy Salmon Northampton, the car boasts an excellent maintenance history with 11 main dealer service stamps alongside three independent specialist stamps.

Recent notable work includes a replacement catalytic converter in early 2026, a new exhaust system in 2023, new fuel pumps in 2022, and replacement rear shock absorbers in 2021. Documentation also confirms extensive floor pan work was carried out in 2020 and 2021. In addition to this £2,500 worth of cosmetic refinishing treatment to the bodywork was carried out in 2025.

It comes with a file full of invoices that go back to 2010. The car is accompanied by its full owner’s pack, two keys, and a fresh MOT valid until May 2027. It was last serviced in 2024, approximately 3,000 miles ago.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
