Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

The Mercedes-Benz SL has long been regarded as one of the finest luxury grand tourers of its era, combining effortless performance with refined comfort and the versatility of a folding hardtop roof. Ideal for a British summer, where we have to swap between umbrellas and sunglasses every few minutes.

This 2009 SL350 is a particularly well-presented example, finished in a sophisticated dark metallic blue over a black leather interior and showing just 30,519 miles at the time of our visit.

Owned by Stephen for the past three years and dry stored throughout the winter months, the car has clearly benefitted from careful ownership. With an upgraded Pioneer infotainment system, paddle-shift automatic transmission, and strong overall condition throughout, this SL350 offers an appealing way to experience one of Mercedes-Benz's most accomplished modern roadsters.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Stephen the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've owned this SL350 for the past three years and have thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly on longer drives where its comfort, refinement, and effortless performance really shine.

Stephen has owned the Mercedes for the last three years, during which time it has been dry stored through the winter months, and carefully maintained. During our visit, he spoke highly of the car's comfort, reliability, and ease of use, noting that the V6 engine, responsive automatic gearbox, and well-balanced suspension make it an enjoyable car to drive in any conditions.

Stephen would be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

The R230-generation SL remains one of Mercedes-Benz's most elegant modern designs, combining classic roadster proportions with subtle luxury and understated presence.

Wheels and Tyres

The factory alloy wheels are presented in excellent condition, with no significant damage or corrosion noted. They retain a smart finish that complements the car's dark metallic paintwork well.

The Pirelli P-Zero tyres appear to be in good condition, providing plenty of confidence-inspiring grip on the road.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The bodywork is generally in very good order for the car's age and mileage. Panel fit appears consistent throughout, with the doors, bonnet, and boot all operating as intended.

We noted a small dent on the driver's door, along with some minor imperfections to the edge of the same door. There is also a light scratch present on the passenger-side front wing. These are relatively minor cosmetic blemishes and do little to detract from the car's overall presentation.

Additionally, some minor imperfections are visible on the front bumper.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Finished in a deep metallic blue, the paintwork presents well overall with a good level of gloss and depth across the body. The finish remains highly attractive and suits the SL's elegant styling particularly well.

Aside from the minor imperfections noted above, no significant issues have been reported by the seller.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The exterior glass appears to be in good condition, free from any obvious damage. The chrome and brightwork also present very well, retaining a clean appearance and providing a tasteful contrast against the darker body colour.

Exterior trim pieces, lighting units, and badging all appear complete and in keeping with the car's well cared for condition.

Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself.

image

Interior

The interior is exactly what you'd hope to find in a well-kept SL350, combining luxury, comfort, and excellent build quality with a level of condition that reflects careful ownership.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather seats present extremely well throughout, showing only light signs of age and use commensurate with the car's mileage. Both front seats retain their shape nicely and remain a comfortable place to spend time on longer journeys.

The carpets and interior trim are similarly well presented, contributing to a cabin that feels clean, well cared for, and ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

Please take a look at the photos and video below to decide on the condition of the seats and carpets for yourself.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard presents in excellent condition and retains the refined feel expected of a Mercedes-Benz grand tourer. The switchgear, controls, and trim all appear in good order, while the upgraded Pioneer infotainment system adds modern functionality without looking out of place.

Overall, the interior remains a pleasant and luxurious environment that continues to feel special more than fifteen years after the car left the factory.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The multifunction steering wheel presents well and shows only light wear, while the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters allow the driver to take control of the gearbox when desired.

The automatic gear selector operates as intended and complements the relaxed grand touring nature of the SL perfectly, making the car equally comfortable whether cruising on the motorway or enjoying a more spirited drive.

image

Mechanics

The SL350 delivers exactly the sort of refined and effortless driving experience Mercedes-Benz intended, combining smooth V6 performance with excellent comfort and long-distance usability.

Engine and Gearbox

Power comes from Mercedes-Benz's naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6 engine, which remains one of the highlights of the R230 platform. Stephen reports that the engine performs exactly as it should, with no unwanted noises, smoke, or warning lights noted during his ownership.

The automatic gearbox shifts smoothly through the gears and is complemented by steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, allowing the driver to take a more involved role when desired. Together, the engine and transmission create a relaxed yet responsive driving experience well suited to both touring and everyday use.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension performs well and provides a reassuring balance between comfort and control. Stephen describes the ride as firm but composed, giving the SL a confident feel on the road without compromising its grand touring credentials.

The steering is precise and responsive, while the braking system performs exactly as it should. The brakes are reported to be strong, progressive, and free from any unwanted noises or vibration.

image

The Drive

On the road, the SL350 feels every bit the luxury grand tourer. The combination of the smooth V6 engine, refined automatic gearbox, and folding hardtop roof makes it equally capable of long motorway journeys or relaxed weekend drives.

Stephen reports that the car drives beautifully, with all major systems performing exactly as expected and no issues detracting from the driving experience.

image

Electrics and Other

The electrical systems are reported to be fully operational, including the folding hardtop roof and paddle shift functionality.

The upgraded Pioneer infotainment system provides modern connectivity and usability while integrating neatly into the cabin.

History and Paperwork

Accompanying the SL350 is a collection of documentation and original items that help support the car's well-cared-for ownership history.

Included with the sale are the original Mercedes-Benz booklets and supporting literature, helping preserve the car's originality and providing useful reference material for the next owner. Also included is the factory Mercedes-Benz head unit, which was retained following the installation of the upgraded Pioneer infotainment system.

Together with Stephen's careful ownership and winter dry storage, these original items help reinforce the impression of a cherished and well-maintained example.

The private plate J28 JAH is not included in the sale, Stephen will be away from the 25th to 29th of June so the new owner will need to pick the car up after then.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
