Introduction
Alan Stuart
A beautifully presented SL55 AMG that combines effortless grand-touring comfort with the performance and addictive soundtrack of a supercharged V8.
The R230-generation SL represented a significant technological step forward for Mercedes-Benz, introducing an electro-hydraulic folding metal roof, alongside advanced systems such as Active Body Control suspension. The SL55 AMG took this sophisticated roadster and added one of AMG’s most celebrated powertrains.
Under the bonnet sits the 5.4-litre supercharged M113K V8, producing around 500 PS and 700Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a five-speed AMG automatic gearbox, with steering-wheel controls allowing the driver to change gear manually when desired.
This 2005 example has covered approximately 48,001 miles and presents particularly well in bright red with a black leather interior and panoramic folding roof. The car also benefits from new tyres and comes with an extensive collection of servicing records and maintenance invoices.
Sean is managing the sale on behalf of his uncle, who is sadly no longer able to drive. The Mercedes is now ready for a new owner, who we're sure will enjoy everything this impressive AMG roadster has to offer.
This listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Sean the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Ask Owner
1.Has the ABC suspension ever had the pump, accumulators, struts or valve blocks replaced?
2. Does the car stay at the correct height after sitting over night?
3.What was done in 2022
Velocity
AS previously stated the Pump has been replaced.
The car does remain at the set height correctly.
2022 was just an interim service, oils and filters as shown in the paperwork.
Hi, a few questions before bidding please:
I noticed a very recent change of keeper on the V5 despite the stated ownership since 2022. Could you clarify the reason for this and the relationship between the current registered keeper and seller?
Has the car had any servicing since the Mercedes service in September 2020?
Has the A/C fault been diagnosed, and if so what does it require?
The paperwork records water ingress into the boot in 2013 with some electrical/battery symptoms. Was the source permanently repaired, and is the boot completely dry now with no recurrence?
Is the ABC suspension currently operating correctly with no leaks, warnings or sinking, and has it had any further ABC work since the documented pump replacement?
Have the front brake pipes/hoses noted for corrosion on the latest MOT been attended to?
Does the roof operate fully and correctly, with no hydraulic leaks or other issues?
Finally, are there any other known mechanical/electrical faults, warning lights, fluid leaks or significant issues not already mentioned in the advert?
Thanks
I have changed the V5 as my uncle has dementia, therefore I am, the nephew of the last previous owner.
The car had a small service when I my uncle bought the SL as stated in the previous question.
The boot shows no sign of water ingress since the repair, as it was undertaken at a Mercedes Garage i can only assume this as correctly repaired.
The Suspension as stated in the video works as it should.
The brake pipes was only an advisory so not worked on.
The roof works really well as shown on the video.
I am not aware of any other faults to mention.
I hope this helps, as described I am selling on my Aged Uncles behalf so not an expert, but what I can say is he really loved this car and said it was the best he had ever owned and was one of only 6 in red in the country (his words not mine). So a real head turner.
My best wishes to your uncle and those helping with his condition. Do you have an opinion on why the Aircon isn’t working? Thanks.
No I’m sorry i have no idea why it doesn’t work other than it has not been used for so long
Thanks for the straight reply – it looks like you’ll achieve a very good price here regardless – best of luck.
Thank you, sorry I couldn’t be more helpful and many thanks for the kind words for My uncle.
It has been serviced by a local garage interim Service at 47K 29/06/22, but since then the car has rarely left my Uncles own Garage hence the low mileage per each MOT, the spark plugs were changed in 2011 via service and recorded in the history book 29K miles. The car is showing overdue service in the main due to the days elapsed rather than miles if this helps.
The suspension goes up and down as it should, Again I wasn’t aware it even did this until Alan from trade classics worked the system.
Hello
Am I right in seeing this car has not been serviced in 6 years! since 2020.
Do you know if the Sparkplugs have been changed in its life?
Also Any issues with the ABC Suspension or any sagging?
