Taking the DB7 to the next level with the factory-fitted Driving Dynamics package.

The 1997 Aston Martin DB7 Volante is a wonderfully elegant British grand tourer, combining classic Aston Martin styling with the added appeal of open-top motoring. Its long bonnet, sweeping bodywork and luxurious interior give it an unmistakable presence, while the four-seat convertible layout makes it slightly more versatile than a conventional two-seater sports car. Beneath the bonnet sits the wonderful 3.2-litre supercharged straight-six, producing approximately ~335 bhp and delivering the effortless performance expected of an Aston Martin.

This particular example comes from almost ~3.5 ownership with just over ~63,000 miles and is is fitted with the desirable Driving Dynamics Package, developed to give the DB7 a more sporting character without compromising its grand-touring credentials. The package included a body kit with front and rear spoilers and side skirts, plus upgrades such as revised suspension, Koni dampers, uprated brakes and a performance exhaust. James isn't sure if the full package was fitted, on top of the bodykit.

The DB7 comes with a current, no advisory, MOT valid until 22.03.2027.

Meet the owner

We inherited the Aston from my father-in-law, who had owned the car since 2006 and loved it.

James’s father-in-law cherished the Aston since 2006. It spent its life in covered storage, and two years ago, when James inherited the DB7, it was moved to another dry storage location because it wasn’t being used.

Whilst it's great to drive at 6’4”, James is a little too tall to fully enjoy the car.

The car came out of storage in February, received a full service, and had the brakes recommissioned, ready for the new owner to enjoy.

Exterior

An expensive Driving Dynamics package option transforms the look of the DB7.

Wheels and Tyres

The original 12-spoke alloy wheels are in excellent condition, with no damage noted to the faces or lips. The centre caps are also in good order, with no corrosion; we did notice a minor amount of water ingress to the badges.

A matching set of Falken tyres is fitted, all of which have plenty of tread remaining.

Please take the time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels and tyres, so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

Walking around the Aston, the bodywork is in excellent condition, with no dings or dents spotted. There is the obvious Driving Dynamics body kit fitted, which is still in good shape. The only area which does show signs of age is the lower front spoiler, which appears to have been caught by a kerb at some point and has split it.

The black fabric roof is in excellent condition and operates correctly, going down and up within the allocated time.

Paint

Finished in what's thought to be Solent Silver Metallic, the paintwork presents well.

There are some minor stone chips in keeping with the mileage.

Glass and Trim

The windows are in good condition, with no noticeable scratches; the seals are also in good order.

The headlights are undamaged; one fog light lens cover is missing, and both rear lights are in good condition, with no splits or cracks.

Interior

Luxurious black leather and walnut trim - you wouldn’t expect anything less.

Seats and Carpets

The electric and heated seats are in excellent condition for their age; there is a small amount of colour wear on the driver's bolster, but it could easily be recoloured.

Throughout the car, the carpets are clean and tidy, with no signs of heavy use.

Inside the boot, the spare wheel is in place, along with the original tools, compressor and Alpine CD multichanger.

Dashboard

The black leather dashboard is in good condition, with no obvious scuffs to point out - we did notice a small piece which had lifted against the windscreen.

The instruments are working correctly, with no warning lights displayed, and the odometer shows ~63,020 miles at the time of our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original leather steering wheel is in good order, with no real signs of excessive use to the rim or buttons. The same can be said for the leather gear selector, which just has some light shining.

Mechanics

Listen to that wonderful supercharger whine and Driving Dynamics exhaust as you blast along with the roof down – just what a grand tourer is all about.

Engine and Gearbox

Turn the key and the Aston fires up without hesitation, bringing the 3.2-litre inline-six to life and sounding fantastic thanks to the Driving Dynamics Performance exhaust, which was fitted as part of the package. The car runs as it should, with no issues reported by James.

Fitted with an automatic gearbox, the DB7 performs well and pulls strongly through the gears, which change smoothly.

Suspension and Brakes

On the road, the car handles as you would expect, with no knocks or bangs coming from either corner. The DB7 soaks up the road nicely without being harsh, yet still handles a spirited drive with ease.

Pressing the brake pedal feels reassuring as the car comes to a stop in a straight line.

The Drive

Take the words 'effortless grand tourer', and you have the Aston Martin DB7 Volante, combining its smooth 3.2-litre supercharged straight-six with a beautifully refined and comfortable cabin.

The automatic gearbox suits its relaxed character, while the rear-wheel-drive layout provides a rewarding connection to the road when the opportunity arises.

Lower the roof, settle into the leather seats and enjoy the rich engine note, elegant styling and unmistakable sense of occasion that comes with driving an Aston Martin.

Electrics and Other

The switchgear appears in good condition, with very few signs of age to the lettering, and is said to all be working correctly, apart from the radio which Jame told us can be intermittent, working 2 out of 10 times, he is also unsure if the air conditioning is working. The lock on the driver's door doesn't work and central locking can't be operated from the driver's door.

An upgraded Alpine head unit has been installed, which is connected to the boot-mounted CD multi-changer.

History and Paperwork

The service and MOT history suggests a well-maintained DB7.

Several invoices are included, which tally with the service history stamps shown in the original owner's manual folder. The most recent service was carried out in February 2025 at 62,902 miles. The most recent MOT is valid until the 22nd March 2027, and it passed with no advisories.

    I believe it does (I’m no mechanic), the steering is very light.

    Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

    Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

    Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
