Introduction
Dom Ginn
A true classic British sports car, the MG offers timeless styling, open-top motoring and plenty of character.
Perhaps one of the most iconic British sports cars ever produced, the MGB has become a true motoring legend – simple, engaging and built for the sheer enjoyment of driving. With excellent parts availability and a strong enthusiast following, it remains an incredibly rewarding classic, particularly when enjoyed on a winding B-road with the roof down.
This particular example is a real joy behind the wheel, offering the kind of connected driving experience that modern cars can struggle to replicate. There is something wonderfully engaging about being so involved in the experience, while the MGB’s characterful styling never fails to attract smiles and waves wherever it goes.
First registered in 1973, this example is beautifully presented in Riviera Ice Blue and has undergone a comprehensive bare-metal restoration between 2018 and 2023. The interior and remaining works were completed in 2023, with the car subsequently dry stored and covering fewer than ~1,500 miles since.
It benefits from a bespoke mohair hood, rebuilt HS4 SU carburettors and fully working overdrive, while an extensive history file includes photographs and invoices documenting the restoration. A full service was also completed in September 2025.
A fine example of the enduring charm of British open-top motoring, this MGB offers classic styling, straightforward mechanicals and an engaging driving experience in a beautifully restored package.
This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Good Morning. Sorry you are having issues. In relation to your question, the leak is negligible. Over several months, the patch where the car is housed is no bigger than a couple of inches round. I have regularly checked the oil levels and seen no noticeable reduction; as such, to date, I have not had to add any oil.
Regards Paul
Very frustrating I’ve done everything I can from my end trying to attempt contact information and arrange of viewing, but trade Classics have gone quiet despite my own proactivity in this. With only two days to go, I doubt there will be time. I noted the question from Ian below and had a look myself at the leak issues… can you just confirm whether the car actively leaks? Visible oil underneath? How much top-up does it need? Thanks, Tim.
Hello, we’ve added this image from Paul: https://www.tradeclassics.com/auctions/mg/1972-mg-mgb-roadster-5/#gallery3-95
Good Morning Ian
When I spoke with LMG, we discussed these fixes, and they indicated they were not a serious concern and were issues to keep an eye on. I have copied an E-Mail from them indicating the same ( I can supply the original if required). Hi Paul
We’re now finished.
The advises left are as marked on the invoice and we need to keep a check on them from time to time or if you notice a change.
The disc/pad run out gives a vibration feel through the steering wheel and the grating/scraping sound from the rear brakes is now sorted.
Invoice attached £1800.12
Let us know best day to collect. This Friday we close at midday.
Thanks
Russell

In relation to cost, this was not discussed at the time, as there was no requirement to fix. Since owning the car, I have only noticed one minor leak that is very small and intermittent, coming from the sump nut; no other leaks have been seen. I have a picture which I will ask TradeClassics to upload if they can
Regards
Paul
Thanks very much for the detailed response.
Hi, i’m hoping you can help me with a question in relation to photo 165.
Within the invoice it states there are leaks from the Engine, gearbox, overdrive and clutch slave. Have you resolved any of these (with evidence) or did the garage give you an indication as to costs for fixing the multiple leaks?
Thanks in advance.
Ian
Good morning, Tim.
When I purchased the car, I trusted the previous seller’s description and paperwork. They showed the following in part of the listing:
• Bare metal body/chassis and suspension restored in 2017/18
• Finished in stunning Riviera Ice Blue livery
• Restoration of the interior, etc. completed in 2023 and garaged since
• Fully working overdrive
• Fully rebuilt HS4 SU Carburettors by Yorkshire Classic Parts
• New bespoke mohair hood with brand new foldaway frame fitted in 2023
• Less than 1500 miles driven since restoration completion in 2023
• First registered in 1973
• Bare metal restored between 2018 and 2023
• Pictorial file & invoices showing the restoration
• Large prior history file
• Always dry-stored in a garage
This indicated that the bare metal restoration (as shown in the photographs) was in 2017/2018 and then the interior was restored in 2023.
I note that there is a document that shows how to install the wood interior as part of the paperwork. Whilst the exact date for restoration is a little ambiguous, it appears to have been an ongoing process over several years.
In relation to the MOT, as you indicated it does not require one and as such I did not get one completed this year, as it had been fully inspected by an MG specialist shortly after purchase.
I hope this assists.
Kind Regards
Paul
Thanks I’m getting there and will hopefully see before auction end. I’m keen to understand when the bodywork restoration was done… recently as indicated by the ad? Or back in 1991 as indicated by the respray invoice? I’m sure you must know from somewhere and it is important to be clear. Also I do not note a recent MOT, I know it’s not a “requirement” but has one been done? Best Tim
Hello, looking online, the process to view the car or obtain my personal details is as follows: How to Arrange a Viewing: Find the car: Look at the active listing on the Trade Classics For Sale page to check the general location. Contact support: Click the appropriate contact or “I Want It” button on the listing, or email/call Trade Classics directly to express your interest in viewing a specific vehicle.Complete security checks: Provide requested verification details, such as a photo ID and a recent utility bill, which the team requires for security before scheduling a physical visit with the private seller.
In relation to your question regarding the paint, the only one I have been supplied with is shown in picture 98, which is a receipt for a respray. I have no other receipts or details other than this.
I hope this assists.
Regards
Paul
Hello again, Paul. I would like to come view but there is no indication of how we make arrangements… can you please set me up with whatever contact and viewing arrangements are managed through trade Classics please? Also, I quite like to look at the invoices associated with the rebuild and respray – can you point me please to the numbers of those invoices which are I believe from 2023?
Hello
I have had the vehicle for about 18 months, and the main reason for selling is the fact that it does not meet my family’s needs. My wife in particular would like a 4-seater in order to have days out with our daughter and friends. In relation to maintenance. Upon purchase, the car was taken to LMG in Bexleyheath, who are specialists in MG maintenance and restoration. If you look at images 164/168, you will see receipts for approx. £2k of work that was undertaken to bring the car up to an excellent standard. The car was purchased from the Car and Classic website. I am happy to talk, but you will need to go through Trade Classics for my contact details, as per their policy. I hope this assists Regards. Paul
Hello there, Paul the car looks lovely, I had the impression you must’ve had it for the significant time, but it seems less than a year…? Could you describe where you got it, what Maintenance it has had in your ownership and whilst I did read your reason for sale… Why so soon?! I would love to arrange to view sometime, and it would be good to chat over the phone if that is possible
Hello, I bought the car in July 2025
Hi, could you tell me know how long you have owned the MG.
