Introduction

This is a rare, 100% matching number, 1967 Series 1 2 seat coupe restoration project - a complete car with firing engine in solid condition and a beautiful colour scheme in a condition such that a winter project as opposed to a basket case.

I imported the car 9 years ago to restore for myself, sadly I now have too many projects and E Type prove more difficult to get in and out of these days for me!

Market Auction

Paul, the seller, has created this listing themselves using our free Market Auction tool. Unlike our Curated Auctions, we haven’t photographed the car or written the listing, however we have completed 3 important security checks for your peace of mind.

V5C Checked

Paul provided a copy of the V5C logbook, which we verified against his photo ID for name and address confirmation.

ID Checked

Paul provided his photo ID, which we verified against the name and address on the V5C logbook.

History Checked

History check actioned using HPi, the industry’s top verification service, for finance, write-offs, and stolen records.

Exterior

For me its absolutely the factory colour - rare and stunning Regency Red.

Wheels and Tyres

The car has 15" chrome wire wheels as original which will need replacing or refinishing.

The tyres hold air but will be too old to be serviceable now.

Bodywork

The structure of the car is fundamentally solid with no rust evident at all, added to that all of the original brightwork is complete and in good condition. I can see that the car has had the footwell panels repaired and the sills replaced and some repair to the rear wheel arches.

The bonnet fitted is from a series 1.5 with open lamps, the chrome beading strip has been filled and I suspect there will be some rust repair to be done before is can be converted (easily) to the Series 1 style to match the rest of the car.

That is the main arear of work before the car can be refinished.

Paint

The paint is poor all over - prior to my purchase the car had been partially dismantled on the exterior in preparation for a respray, and is now partly in primer and partly bare metal in a few places.

So it shows some surface rust mainly on the roof, filler cap and bonnet, but that is all it is and it would be removed as part of a normal paint preparation process.

Glass and Trim

All of the glass and trim is complete and in nice usable condition depending upon what you want.

The important and fragile window finisher are all there and in good straight condition.

The bumpers all look good, the lamps are removed, complete and all boxed up.

Interior

The interior is classically and sporting black making a smart combination with the exterior.

Seats and Carpets

The seats and rear cabin trims are in decent usable condition.

The seats need feeding and colouring but have a limited amount of damage. The rear cabin trim is all decent and just needs a good clean - all of the chrome trims are in place and it all fits well. The door cards are missing but a spare set is included, and the carpets have been removed in all but the rear cubby box area.

Cantrail trims and door rolls are complete and good, as are the rear quarter trim panels.

Dashboard

The dash is in nice condition overall and just needs a good clean. It has toggle switchgear which is correct for a series 1.

The dash top is solid and undamaged. Instrumentation is complete and the odometer shows what has to be an original 86,000 miles.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and centre are original parts, the wooden rim has delaminated and will need full restoration, but it will restore and its nice that its an original.

The shifter knob is missing but the centre console, centre storage box and radio console are all complete and included.

Mechanics

The car has never fundamentally been apart, the engine spins happily on the starter motor, using the cars' ignition key and system, and is even firing (see included video).

Engine and Gearbox

The engine bay is exceptionally original overall and the car rolls for transport.

As above the engine is spinning which augers well for being able to get it running after sorting the fuel system out.

The car is fitted with its matching number engine block, and a replacement cylinder head. The original matching number head is included - I can see that it will need a set of follower guides fitting and reassembly.

The carburettors are clean and not seized and the whole is complete.

The exhaust will need replacing.

The gearbox is untested, selects all gears but these are pretty robust at 86,000 miles.

Suspension and Brakes

The car's suspension system is complete and in place with the exception of the front brake callipers that are removed and boxed.

Depending upon what is wanted, for sure the braking system will need overhauling before the car can be driven.

The Drive

The car hasn't driven for many years and will need a complete overhaul of many systems before it can.

Electrics and Other

The electrical system looks complete, with a battery and key on the engine spins on the starter button and ignition, low fuel and choke warning lights all illuminate.

I haven't checked anything else.

History and Paperwork

The car is 100% matching numbers and its VIN number is right at the end of the Series 1 production according to the cut-off published by Anders Clausager (Jaguar Historian) in his book 'Factory Original E Type'.

The car has its original Canadian title and is on a NOVA, so the new owner can register the car in their name.

There are no additional documents with the car.

The car has a second cylinder head included.

From Trade Classics:

This is a Market Auction listing, meaning we have not visited and photographed the car - instead the seller has supplied the images and written the description. However we’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID that matches the V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPi that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

Viewings are welcomed, so please get in touch with us via the 'contact us' page - we just need to speak to you first on the phone, have you register on the site, and also send in valid photo ID before confirming a suitable time to visit.

Like all our auctions, if there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - the Buyer's Premium is not refundable in any instance, just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
