Introduction

Alan Stuart
Vehicle Consigner and Photographer

Beautifully engineered, agile, elegant and a delight to drive - the 911 is the epitome of the sports car.

Launched in 1984 this new generation of 911 brought back the ‘Carrera’ name for the first time since 1977 and ushered in the use of the 3.2 Litre boxer engine. Delivering 231BHP the car could achieve 0 to 60 in 5.6 seconds and offered a top speed of over 150 MPH. With its iconic 'Whale Tail' this car is considered to by some enthusiasts to be the pinnacle in the development of the 911 breed. Porsche used galvanised bodies on all Carreras which is fantastic for corrosion resistance and longevity.

This car is a 1986 model and it looks fantastic. It’s been with the current owner for the last ten years and has clearly been impeccably maintained having completed fewer than 7,000 miles in that time. The deep, gloss black paint has a rich even shine and complements the black leather interior perfectly. Examples this good are hard to find.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Tony the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This Porsche was designed to be driven - the more you drive it, the greater the thrill and experience.

Tony always wanted an air-cooled Porsche, having been a big fan of classic VWs.

Tony told us, "I knew this car, and owner, before I agreed to buy. I knew how good the car was when I purchased. I have really enjoyed owning this Porsche - I love most the iconic lines and the way this particular car sits. I really don’t want to sell it but I have recently had a full hip replacement and will struggle to get in and out of the car."

Tony would be happy to answer any questions below.

Exterior

Elegant lines, iconic looks and beautiful black paintwork make this an absolutely stunning example.

Wheels and Tyres

The car is fitted with the larger 16in wheels and are in remarkable condition - they are shod with ContisportContact tyres and all have good tread remaining and there is a good spare in the boot too.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this example really is exceptional. Take a look at the panel gaps and you'll see they are even all over the car and the doors, bonnet and boot all open and close precisely and firmly.

Panel edges are excellent without any apparent damage.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the bodywork condition for yourselves.

Paint

The paint on this 911 is one of the best we've seen and looks amazing in black which is arguably the colour that suits the car the best, showing off all the lines and curves.

You'll see a deep, even and polished shine that looks like a mirror - the paint appears little short of excellent. We could see no shade differences across panels and even the vulnerable edges appeared good.

Again, please take time to review all the images and videos showing the paint from different angles and reflections, to assess the condition for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

Glass is clear without significant scratches and trim appears in very good condition including the all important whale tail.

The badging is good and light lenses are clear and unbroken.

Interior

Stunning black leather adds opulence to this 911's sporting pedigree.

Seats and Carpets

This example is fitted with sports seats that are both in great condition, supportive and comfortable with just some very minor wear on the driver's seat bolster.

The carpets are good with little wear too.

Overall the interior is presented well and in original condition.

Dashboard

In true Porsche style, dials are functional, clear and entirely fit for purpose.

Instruments are easy to read and Tony assures us they all work as expected.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and gear stick are in good condition too with only a little wear on the steering wheel rim, but far less than might be expected on a 35 year old car.

Mechanics

3.2 Litre air cooled flat-six provides the very best of soundtracks.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine bay is clean and really is testament to careful and committed ownership. Producing 231 BHP the engine appears to pull well, sounds fantastic and the transfer of power to the wheels through the five-speed gearbox is clean, precise and certain.

Please check out the On The Road video to share in the drive we joined Tony for.

Suspension and Brakes

Porsche are legendary for many things and one of those is brakes. As you would expect the brakes on these cars are engineered to match the stunning performance and handling. Tony assures us the brakes work exactly as they should and have little difficulty arresting this sporting icon when required.

The Drive

It's a Porsche! Fantastic acceleration and great handling keep this car firmly planted and inspire confidence. The On The Road video gives a small taste of what travelling in this car is like.

Little can beat the visceral experience of a 911 - let alone a well looked after example like this one.

Electrics and Other

Tony advises all electrics work as they should. The car has a CD player and electrically adjustable seats.

Air conditioning is installed but has never been used in the 10 years Tony has owned the car, so may need some recommissioning.

History and Paperwork

An opportunity to own an excellent example of one the most iconic and desirable iterations of the 911 - this car ticks a lot of boxes with excellent future investment potential too.

It's clear this Porsche has been well looked after - the photos and video say it all.

Comprehensive service and maintenance documentation is included with MOT certificates going back to the late 80's. There are receipts for many maintenance items as well as the original record of sale, handbook and drivers manual. We understand the car is kept under a dust cover in a locked garage and the records show it has covered less than 7,000 miles in the 10 years of Tony's ownership.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks; seller ID, V5, HPi.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Good afternoon Bill and thank you for your communication.
There is some light scuffing to this area. I do not know how this came about, only that it happened prior to my ownership. it certainly will not get any worse than the existing light scuff.
