Introduction

Glyn Parry
Proffesional Consigner

An 80s Targa in a beautiful colour combination with a recent respray and coming fresh from a 12 year ownership - what's not to love.

The 911 one of the most recognisable shapes in the automotive world, 80s cars such as this Targa Sport certainly stand out from the crowd with its iconic whale tail rear spoiler and wide arches.

This Targa Sport comes in a beautiful blue colourway both inside and out, "Iris Blue" paint with dark blue leather and cloth, a stunning combination.

This car comes to market after ~12 years of ownership, spending ~6 years of that time in storage and in the last couple of years it has had a lot of work done including a full respray in 2021.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Jeff the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The Targa Sport has always been one of Jeff's dream cars.

Jeff has owned this Targa Sport for ~12 years and during the first few years he used the car a lot, enjoying many miles in it. Jeff told us it was his poster car growing up, so when he saw this one come up he had to buy it.

Fast forward a few years and life ended up getting in the way, so the Targa Sport went into storage for ~6 years, where the car would be started and moved around regularly, to make sure nothing seized. In the recent couple of years the car has had a full respray and looks in great condition.

Jeff is a petrolhead and has a few cars, but due to the lack of use he has decided it's time to sell the Porsche.

Exterior

A classic 80s Porsche, just how we like them - Fuchs wheels, beautiful blue paint and a whale tail at the rear.

Wheels and Tyres

The Fuchs wheels whilst original are looking a little tired in places and could do with a light refurbishment at some point - there are just some stone chips on the black painted centres of each wheel, and the outer lip could also do with a polish to improve the look.

All the centre caps of the wheels looked quite faded, with only one cap still having the Porsche logo on in.

The tyres were a mix of brands and ages, three Continentals and a Uniroyal, they were from the 90s too so were showing signs of cracking - we would recommend a new set of tyres all round.

Please have a look at the photos and video below to asses the condition of the wheels and tyres for yourself.

Bodywork

The curves of the Targa Sport are all where you'd expect them, all panel gaps looked good and we didn't notice any dents or scrapes in the bodywork.

Please study the underside of the car, it looks very sold and we've taken pictures of the kidney bowels which look in very good condition, showing signs of a proper repair process.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

In 2021 the car received a full respray in "Iris Blue" with detailed description of exactly what was done in the the documentation below. It really does look to be a good quality job as the condition of the paint and importantly the finish is in excellent condition, with an even coverage across the full car, and no drips were noted.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

Glass looked to be in good condition too - we didn't notice any chips or cracks in the windscreen or any other pane of glass.

Trim looked good on the whole however we noticed a crack in the rubber part of the front bumper at the driver side. The cover for the towing eye was missing at the rear too.

The roof looked in good condition and was in good working order.

Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself.

Interior

The dark blue leather compliments the light blue paintwork - a classic Porsche steering wheel and driver focused dashboard show the cars intentions.

Seats and Carpets

Featuring leather and cloth seats, the drivers seat was showing some wear on the bolster, with some creases on the leather and a bit of discolouration, but importantly no rips or tears.

The base of the driver's seat does look like it's had a couple of cigarette burns in the cloth - all the other seats looked in good condition.

Carpets looked in okay condition, the driver side carpet did show a slight bit of wear, but all the other carpets looked in good condition.

We did notice a slight tear in the leather trim in the rear driver side door card area.

Please take a look at the photos and video below to decide on the condition of the seats and carpets for yourself.

Dashboard

The classic Porsche dials were present and they looked in very good condition.

An updated, modern stereo with MP3 has been installed with upgraded speakers too.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The standard Porsche steering wheel was showing a bit of wear, with some discolouration on the left side of the rim.

The gearstick and gator was looking in good condition, only very slight wear was noticed.

Please take a look at the photos and video below to check the condition of the steering wheel and gear stick for yourself.

Mechanics

A 3.2L flat-six living in the rear, offering plenty of grunt on the road.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine started first time no problem, with no unusual noises noticed. On our run with Jeff the car was very responsive, even though we were stuck in traffic.

Jeff told us he's had a few fun blasts out of the city where the car felt great.

Even in slow traffic the gear shifts were very smooth, no crunching or any other untoward noises were noticed.

Please take a look at the cold start video below to see for yourself the performance of the engine and gearbox.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension felt smooth and we didn't hear any knocking coming from underneath the car whilst on the road.

In traffic the brake were given a good test, they felt sharp and we didn't notice any pulling of the steering wheel whilst under braking.

Please take a look at the on the road video below to see how the suspension and brakes performed.

The Drive

As mentioned above the car felt good on the road, the engine was smooth and powerful and gearshifts were going in with ease.

The chassis felt good too - suspension was supple and riding well, brakes felt good, with the car tracking true whilst braking.

To see the car in motion please take a look at the on the road video below.

Electrics and Other

The car featured a modern aftermarket stereo and speaker system and sounded good.

Jeff told us all the electrics were working well, as you would expect.

History and Paperwork

A lovely car in great condition and after spending some years in storage it has received some light recommissioning and a stunning paint job.

It's clear to see that this Targa Sport has been well looked after, and more recently it has been given a fresh MOT and has plenty of paperwork to accompany its life.

Overall a great car for someone looking to get into classic Porsche ownership.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

hi can you till me when or if the cam belts have been changed and is the clutch pedal quite stiff to push down and does it have power steering

Adam - Trade Classics
Admin

Hey Westham… so I can help on all 3 questions:

1. These cars don’t have cam belts.
2. Clutches on these cars are firmer than most.
3. No power steering on any 911s in this era.

Cheers
