Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

Probably the most cost effective way to become a Porsche owner is with the fantastic Boxster S - a 100% drivers' car.

The Porsche Boxster, believe it or not, has been with us since 1996 - how time flies! It is still as popular today as it was back then when the 'affordable Porsche' was released. This is the face-lifted Boxster S which features updated headlights that lost the orange indicators and orange side repeaters. The new look gave the Boxster a more modern, clean look. With its perfectly weighted steering, the Boxster S is a true delight to drive, while the equally balanced chassis lets you know exactly what's going on with the road. When lowering the roof, the Boxster doesn't lose any of its rigidity, making it ideal for cruising in comfort or more spirited driving on the twisties.

This example is coming to market after ~7 years of ownership, and the vendor Geoff and his wife have had great fun in owing the two-seater Porsche.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Geoff the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The Boxster has been a fantastic car to own - my wife and I have enjoyed some fantastic trips in it.

Purchased by Geoff in 2015, the 2004 Porsche Boxster S has been driven approximately ~10,000 miles by Geoff and his wife. Mainly used in the summer months, the Boxster was the perfect car to own as a weekend car, especially when the sun was out or on a crisp autumn morning.

With a house move on the cards to somewhere more rural, there is less space at the new property, and with a couple of dogs, the Boxster isn’t the most practical for two people and two dogs. It’s been fantastic fun, but now it's time to let someone else have the pleasure of owning a true two-seater sports car.

Please feel free to ask Geoff any questions in the comments below.

CONTACT OWNER

Exterior

From the front, you could easily be looking at a 911 (996) - the Boxster shares many of the 911 parts but without the price tag to match.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels are the original five-spoke alloys. There are some slight kerb marks on a couple of the wheels acquired over time, but nothing your local refurbisher couldn’t address if you desired.

The tyres are different makes to the front and rear, but have a good amount of tread remaining.
Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

Looking around the Porsche, the shut lines appear to be equal and even. The doors open and close with the lightest of touches, and the bonnet and boot open via the solenoid button located on the driver's side sill. There are a few very light dings on the driver and passenger side quarters. However, these are light and are only noticed when caught in the right light.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in Arctic Silver, the Boxster’s paintwork presents well. There is the odd light age related scratch here and there, but these could possibly be reduced or removed by your local detailer.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows are all in good condition with no apparent scratches to be seen. The window seals appear to be in good order. The headlights are free from any chips or splits, as are the rear lights.

The roof is in excellent condition. There are the usual light creasing marks often seen on any roof of this age. However, it is working correctly, going both up and down.

Interior

Again, the inside is just like a 911 (996) - leather seats and the classic Porsche instrument layout - the Boxster S is a lovely place to be.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in black leather, the seats in the Boxster are in excellent condition for the age of the vehicle. There is a tiny amount of colour wear on the driver’s bolster. The leather itself looks to be in good condition with no apparent damage.

The carpets are in good order, fitted with a set of Porsche mats that helped protect them. The mats are also in good condition. Inside the rear boot is also nice and clean, and the front houses the spare wheel and warning triangle.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

The leather-covered dashboard is in excellent condition with no marks or damage to point out. White dials look great, sat inside the silver surround, which matches the exterior. No warning lights are displayed with the engine running, and the odometer shows a reading of just ~50,321 miles.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original black leather steering wheel is in excellent condition, with very few signs of wear to the leather, or the Tiptronic buttons, which are working correctly should you fancy some spirited driving.

The gearknob is in good condition with little wear, as it's the Tiptronic model.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

You get a flat-six engine, just like the 911 - a 3.2 litre unit producing ~254bhp propels the Boxster S from 0-62 mph in a very respectable 6.4 seconds.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine fires up without hesitation; looking under the car, all looks in good order with no signs of any oil leaks. Geoff had the car in Porsche Centre Preston just two days before our visit because the car was stuck in fourth gear. This fault was traced to the selector switch, which has now been replaced and working as it should.

The gear change is smooth as the car pulls strongly through the gears, and there are no untoward noises coming from the transmission.

Suspension and Brakes

Out in the Boxster S it’s easy to see why the cars are so popular; the handling is fantastic, as you would expect coming from a performance car manufacturer like Porsche. In addition, no knocks or bangs are coming from either corner of the vehicle.

The Porsche comes to a halt in a straight line with no juddering reported by Geoff to come through the pedal.

The Drive

If you could use one word to describe the Porsche Boxster S, it would be FUN! It's a great car to own and be in. You get the Porsche quality engineering and reliability wrapped up in an affordable two-seater sports car. What more do you need?

Electrics and Other

There has been an upgraded Alpine head unit fitted with Bluetooth connectivity and a hands-free mic just beside the instruments. There are no apparent signs of wear to the switchgear, and Geoff reports that everything in the Boxster S is working as it should.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

History and Paperwork

With just ~50,321 miles covered and an excellent history, the Boxster S will make a superb purchase.

All of the original handbooks are present, along with the service book and a nice selection of invoices for work carried out over the years, including the most recent £897.62 invoice from just two days before our visit.

The Porsche looks to be an honest and well cared for car which has been with Geoff for the past seven years, and one which wouldn’t be going anywhere if there was space at the new property. This ~50,321 mile example is a great place to start for anyone wanting to step into Porsche or two-seater ownership.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
