Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

From one of the finest manufacturers in Great Britain - The DB9 is considered by many to be one of the best luxury grand tourers of its time.

The very desirable grand tourer was built for 12 years, between 2004 and 2016, hand-assembled in Warwickshire. Originally penned by Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker, two designers famous for the concept designs of the Escort Cosworth, RS200, BMW Z8 and many more. With a much sharper design than the DB7, it was fitted with the 5.9L V12 from the Vanquish which had an aluminium construction, and offered outstanding performance. The DB9 was the first model to be built at Aston Martin's Gaydon facility in Warwickshire, and it received an excellent reception from the press when launched.

This low mileage DB9 comes to market from ~16 months ownership, covering ~1,000 miles in that time, and has a solid service history with 15 recorded. Finished in "Arizona Bronze" with "Iron Ore" leather, it certainly looks the part, and was most recently serviced by marque specialist McGurks in June last year at a cost of ~£3,000. The car also comes with some modernisations in the shape of a ~£2,000 Apple carplay system, and has just been MOTd so a years motoring for the new owner ahead.

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Marc the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The sound, the looks, and supercar performance at an affordable price - the DB9 has always been a car I’ve wanted to own.

Marc has wanted to own an Aston Martin for years, he tells us; "I searched for over a year to find the right car with a nice colour combination" but since getting the car, Marc’s business has kept him busy pretty much seven days a week, so he hasn’t had the chance to use it properly. So for that reason, the DB9 has spent most of its time tucked away and covered up in his garage.

In his ownership, he's had the car serviced by specialist McGurk to keep up the solid service history the car comes with. As well as a service, the radiator was replaced on advice from the garage, and the power steering pump too, this work coming to a total of ~£3,000. With the lack of use more recently, and the itch having been scratched for DB9 ownership, the car comes to market. Please feel free to ask Marc any questions about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

Considering the DB9 design is coming up to 19 years old, it is still a fantastic-looking car which holds its own today.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the original ten-spoke alloy wheels, these are in excellent condition for the age of the vehicle. There is a small amount of water ingress to the centre caps, but an easy item to replace should you wish.

The tyres are a matching set of Kumhos, with a good amount of tread remaining. Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

The body on the DB9 is excellent; looking around the car, we didn’t notice any dings or dents to point out, and the shut lines all looked to match up well. Sometimes these cars can suffer from metal corrosion from factory, there isn't anything major on this car other than a very small area on the nearside door handle and above the air intake on the nearside wing.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in "Arizona Bronze", the paintwork is excellent. There is the odd swirl mark noticeable in really bright sunlight. Also, there is a small scuff on the nearside of the rear bumper, but generally, this presents exceptionally well for an Aston of this age.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows look in good condition, with no apparent scratches on the front, side or rear windows. The headlights are in excellent condition, we didn’t witness any chips or cracks in the plastic lenses, and the same can be said for the rear lights.

The roof is in excellent condition too, with just the odd little mark caused when it folds down. This operates as it should at the touch of a button going up and down.

Interior

Iron Ore leather trim is an excellent choice to complement the stunning Arizona Bronze exterior.

Seats and Carpets

The leather seats are in good condition, finished in the colour “Iron Ore”, there is a small amount of colour wear to the bolsters, we also noticed some creases in the leather of the front seats, mainly the driver seat, but this is light wear considering the age of the vehicle. The door cards are in the matching colour, and again these are excellent, with no issues to report.

The carpets look to have had a set of mats fitted from new. There is a small amount of wear to these, but lifting them, the main carpet is like new, we couldn’t notice any wear to them. The boot is clean and tidy, and the warning triangle is present. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

Finished in "Iron Ore" to match the seats, wooden trim is used in the central section, which has a minor split near the top, but other than that, it is in good order and is not suffering the bleaching you often see on this era of Aston Martin.

The instruments are all working correctly, with no warning lights displayed when the engine is running, and the odometer’s reading is ~44,220 miles at our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original black leather steering wheel is in great shape with minimal signs of use. The paddle shifters are to the rear of the wheel, they are working as expected, and the buttons for controlling the gears on the centre console look great too.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

5.9L of pure V12 heaven - the engine in the Aston can propel the DB9 from 0-60MPH in ~4.4 seconds.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine in the DB9 sounds fantastic, as you would expect, and no untoward noises are coming from the engine bay. The car pulls well through the gears, and the change is smooth without hesitation. On the last service, a new radiator and power steering pump were fitted. We ran the car up to temp (~2 minutes at ~3,000RPM) and then filmed the idle sound to see if we could observe the audible "tick" that some early DB9s are known for, we didn't hear anything to suggest this.

As part of the service and maintenance work last year, McGurk Performance Cars investigated a noise from the diff, but couldn’t pinpoint precisely where it is coming from, and have suggested using it to see if it develops further. This sounds like a bearing type of noise which starts at around ~27mph when under load. You can watch a video of the car in action, although the sound may not be apparent.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension appears to be in good order, there were no knocks or bangs on our test drive, and the car handles well along the road.

The huge Aston Martin callipers look to be in good condition, and there is very little wear to the discs, having been replaced in 2021. The car comes to a stop in a straight line with no juddering through the pedal.

The Drive

On the road, the Aston Martin DB9 is a fantastic car to be in. It’s luxurious with excellent performance and handling. The distinct sound from the V12 does turn a few heads as you move through the gears, and rightly so, the DB9 is worthy of a few head turns; it’s a stunning-looking car.

Electrics and Other

The switchgear all looks to be in excellent condition. Marc reports everything to be working correctly with no issues. There has had an Apple carplay system fitted, enabling you to stream and connect your phone, this at a cost of ~£2,000 as detailed in the paperwork.

Marc told us that recently the "Emission Service" message flashed up temporarily, disappearing whilst he was driving. This can be a common occurrence on Astons of this era, speak to any specialist in the know and they will tell you not to panic and to give the car a good blast on a dual carriageway or motorway which often will result in the error clearing. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

History and Paperwork

Services have been carried out on this ~44,220 mile DB9 almost annually, showing a well-maintained vehicle, it presents in beautiful condition too and comes to market with a keen reserve.

The last service was carried out on 05.05.2022 at 43,960 miles at a cost of ~£3,000. During this service, the radiator and the power steering pump were replaced. The noise coming from the rear end, as mentioned earlier, was investigated and the diff oil and filter replaced as a precautionary measure. There was also an MOT carried out, which it passed with no advisories, the new ticket having ~12 months on it.

Some invoices for work carried out are present, along with the stamped service booklet and previous MOT certificates. In addition, there are two keys complete with alarm fobs present and also a Ctek MX5 5.0 battery conditioner which Marc is leaving with the DB9. It's worth noting also as mentioned earlier, that the car has had an Apple carplay system installed, coming at a cost of ~£2,000.

Please note the private registration shown will not be sold with the car, the car will return to its age related number.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Marc,
You say the rear diff wines at low speed, does this disappear at normal road speeds and what happens when you decelerate?

Also can you confirm you don’t have the dreaded V12 knock that means an engine rebuild.

Hi Marc. Can you tell me if you put the apple play unit in. And did you replace the factory screen ? Does it look the same ?
Cheers Bordan
