Introduction

Tom Brett
Content Editor

If you could call any Alpina a bargain, the B10 3.2 is one of them!

Being cheaper than the 540i of the time, it was almost as fast, more fun to drive and definitely the more exclusive option.

In terms of performance, not much else beat this car in its day. Just as fast as a Ferarri Testarossa with just its 3.2L engine. Alpina’s goal is not to be an aggressive or track-ready beast that the BMW M’s are known for. Instead, they are made simply to be luxurious and powerful.

This philosophy brings a more functional and enjoyable car in the long run - giving the performance and not sacrificing the luxury and comfort that is needed for daily driving. Overall set in a very good condition and maintained very well by the previous owner, there are some areas where the new owner may focus on to really make the car shine!

This listing was created by Tom after Lee, the vehicle owner, photographed the car as well as its provenance.

Meet the owner

After cruising in the Alpina since April 2012, Lee will be sad to see the B10 go.

Lee has been the proud owner of the B10 3.2 for the last 8 years and has loved every second of it. He has had the car serviced roughly every two years and says another service will be due this year. He has decided to leave this task to the new owner as currently, both service lights are still green and it is more than likely only an oil change will be needed.

He has cared for the car so well, as can be seen in by the wealth of invoices he has accumulated over time. The car has recently had new brake discs, pads and tyres all around. Lee has covered ~900 miles in the last year.

Exterior

As soon as you see the wheels and badges, you know what's just come round the corner!

Wheels and Tyres

With the exclusive Alpina multi-spoke alloys, the car looks stunning from the off.

They are in excellent condition and it is a testament to Lee's ownership for keeping them in such good fashion. A full set of Michelin Pilot-Sport tyres were added recently that are two years old. They maintain a near-to-new tread condition.

Bodywork

Across the bodywork, there are no dents or any signs of accidental damage.

Please review the photos to see every angle of each panel. You will find that there are some fragments of the front bumper missing, perhaps from a speed bump. The car has been rust protected in the past as you can see by the sills. There are also some invoices stating that new patches, where corrosion took place, have been welded in to maintain the integrity of the car.

Paint

The black paint looks mainly very even and colour-correct across the car. Overall in good condition.

There are some weak spots where you can see rust started to corrode the rear fenders, possibly around the same time as the sills. Ultimately, this has resulted in some bubbling effects across both rear wheel arches but does not look like the problem is getting progressively worse. There is also some bubbling by the offside of the rear spoiler.

Glass and Trim

All looks in excellent condition across the car.

Interior

Those slight adjustments inside the Alpina really give it that WOW factor.

Seats and Carpets

With ~128,000 miles on the clock, the bespoke Alpina leather seats look a delight to sit in. They are showing no signs of cracking or tearing but have sagged a little as you would expect from the car's mileage. Also, you are spoilt with Alpina detailing as you open the door.

The carpets look immaculately clean too. A patch was welded underneath the interior to stop corrosion in the past, stopping the problem from getting into the interior of the car. The headlining also look in excellent condition.

Dashboard

Looking crisp and clean, there are no issues with any dials or gauges and looks relatively dust-free.

Above looks great too, showing no signs of lifting across the car.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

With some slight lifting of leather on the Alpina steering wheel, the stitching still looks great with no material flickering out, something you might expect from a car with this mileage.

The gear stick looks great too, holding up so well after all these years due to great care and diligence from all previous owners.

Mechanics

The car is not set up to be an aggressive, track-ready machine, but more like a powerful, luxurious express.

Engine and Gearbox

A 3.2L straight-6 engine sitting in the bay looks in excellent condition, along with the rest of the area. As mentioned, Lee's always had the car serviced when needed, meaning the engine is reliable with no issues. This engine was based on BMW's 2.8L unit, which Alpina have finetuned and balanced to a high degree of expertise.

The manual 5-speed ZF gearbox was the only option for the B10 3.2. Lee assures us the gears change smoothly and responsively, having had regular servicing when needed throughout its life, for example, a new clutch was added in February 2013.

Suspension and Brakes

In July 2019, the car received two new suspension struts. Overall, the underside of the car looks great and is obvious any problems have been remedied.

The ventilated disc brakes have been replaced as late as June 2020, providing any respective buyer with the confidence that this car is solid and ready to drive away.

The Drive

As we were unable to visit the car we have not filmed our usual 'On the Road' video with Lee, the owner.

From our own personal experiences by owning an Alpina currently, they are just a delight to drive in on long journeys due to their highly refined mechanics and bespoke interior.

Electrics and Other

Lee assures us all electrics on this example work as expected.

You can see by the wealth of invoices that any electrical issues have been seen to such as; a new battery in February 2019, new radiator in April 2013 and a new Alternator in June 2012.

History and Paperwork

Lee has provided us with a wealth of paperwork for the B10 3.2.

As you can see by the paperwork, anything wrong with the car under Lee's ownership has been seen to. He is exactly the type of owner who doesn't let anything past him so easily and wants everything to be running as good as they can be.

The Alpina B10 3.2 has 3 former keepers prior to Lee's ownership. The car comes with the original service book that was primarily been completed from 1998 -2005, and then during Lee's ownership from 2013-Present. A V5 is also present and HPi is clear.

The current mileage of the car is ~128,800.
