Introduction

A timeless classic, combining every desirable Italian attribute.

As an entry-level car, the Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior must rate as one of the all-time greats. Born from the 105/115 series Giulia, the Giugiaro-styled coupe is an example of a near-perfect balance of elegance, interior space, and a spirited drive. Created during the golden era of Italian sports car design, the GT 1300 Junior provided a mechanical specification and performance that matched its rakish, chiselled design.

First released in 1965, the GT 1300 Junior was released to take advantage of an engine tax break. However, not only did its advanced Twin-Cam engine ensure it could reach 100 mph, its superb roadholding, taut chassis, and excellent 4-disc braking meant it was every bit as thrilling as its bigger-engined siblings.

Lean and clean, with not an ounce of bloat, this very original example is finished in rare 'Pino Green' with tan vinyl interior. Imported from Italy in 2023, it has been with the same owner since 2010. Cleanly presented throughout, it received an Alfa Romeo engine and gearbox rebuild in 2022 and comes with two keys. It is also MOT and Road Tax exempt.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Vincenzo the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

It’s a classic that feels alive.

What I love most is its character - the way it sounds, the way it moves, and the sheer charm it brings to every journey. The 'Pino Green' colour is rare and always gets attention. Above all though, it’s the driving experience I love: light, communicative, and incredibly engaging.

The only reason I’m selling is to reduce my collection and make room for other commitments. It’s not an easy decision, as this Alfa Romeo has been well cared for and genuinely loved, but it’s time for someone else to enjoy it.

Vincenzo will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Finished in an attractive 'Pino Green', it's an excellent example of a well-cherished GT 1300.

Wheels and Tyres

The 14” steel rims are in smartly presented condition with mild age-related wear. The hubcaps are clean.

The front and rear of the car are fitted with Goodyear Eagle tyres and show a spec of 185/70 - these are date coded from 2005 but appear to be in good shape with even wear.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

The exterior of the car is clean throughout, with no discernible dents or corrosion. The panel fit is flush to the body, with visually even shut lines, all doors open and close with ease.

The underside of the car is solid with no notable issues on the floor pan, wheel wells, or suspension mounts. The boot floor and engine bay appear in good order.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourself.

Paint

The 'Pino Green' paint has a positive lustre and even coverage. The finish has a decent shine and is generally free of chips, except for a minor mark on the driver's side door.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourself. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own mind about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass and seals are in good condition, with no issues with the headlamps or lenses.

The trim is well-mounted with no distracting damage, and the chrome work holds up well with minor signs of pitting and age in places.

Interior

Original and well-preserved, the cabin is stylish and inviting.

Seats and Carpets

The interior presentation is very strong; the tan vinyl seats are in excellent shape and retain their support.

The mats and rubber coverings are clean, and there were no suggestions of dampness. The luggage area demonstrates a level of careful use.

Dashboard

The dashboard padding, facia, and controls are cleanly presented. The switches and dials look smart.

The door cards, interior trim, and headlining are in excellent condition.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and gear lever are in line with the positive presentation of the cabin, with no outstanding marks or wear.

Mechanics

The GT 1300 Junior provides an exceptional, pure analogue driving experience.

Engine and Gearbox

The car starts up without any hesitation. The engine idles evenly with no unwanted noises or misfires. Any cold engine exhaust condensation soon cleared up and the dashboard warning lights remained off.

The engine was treated to an Alfa Romeo rebuild to original specification ~3 years ago, and therefore presents as well as you could expect. Many components, including the exhaust system, were renewed as part of the renovation.

The 5-speed gearbox operates smoothly, free of slack or crunching. Along with the clutch, it was rebuilt ~3 years ago too.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension is absorbent and provides a smooth, comfortable ride, with no knocks or bangs heard during the drive.

The brakes were part of the rebuild and operated confidently, with no reports of squeals, wobbles, or vibrations

The Drive

A beautifully balanced car to drive: light, nimble, and incredibly responsive. The rebuilt engine feels strong and smooth, and the new components make it dependable as well as enjoyable. It’s a car that genuinely connects you to the road, offering an experience modern cars simply cannot replicate.

The car drives without any issues, with a compliant steering feel and a confident manner around town. The 1.3-litre engine is flexible and smooth, pulling without hesitation, with a wonderful soundtrack that encourages you to make full use of the gears. The car corners without any reported faults, and is exactly as you would hope a well-maintained and carefully looked after Alfa to be.

Vincenzo did not report any issues with the reliability of the car, and his feedback suggests that the engine temperature and oil pressure remain in check.

Electrics and Other

The car has not had any major modifications and remains very close to factory specification. The colour, interior, wheels, and overall appearance maintain the original look and feel of the GT Junior. Any parts replaced were done so with authenticity and preservation in mind.

It has been kept in dry storage throughout its life in the UK.

History and Paperwork

The engine and gearbox were completely rebuilt in 2022.

Registered in Italy in March 1970, the Alfa Romeo was imported to the UK in 2023 following 15 years of ownership by Vincenzo. In 2022, it underwent a full engine and gearbox rebuild costing €4,000. Vincenzo drove the car from Milan to the UK the following year to test its reliability, confirming its mechanical soundness. The car comes with its original Italian logbook (detailing decades of provenance) and a current UK V5. It is supplied with two keys and is exempt from Road Tax and MOT.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi,

We don’t offer a buy it now price, all our cars have a reserve set, unless stated otherwise, but we can’t divulge what that is, as it undermines the auction.

The highest bidder does get first refusal of a post auction deal if it doesn’t reach reserve, so its always worth having your bid in.

Thanks,
Colin.

Hi, I can see the paintwork to the rear quarters is a slightly different shade to the doors, which look a little different again the the front wings. Have you had this paintwork done within your ownership & if so, what was the reason?
Thanks.
