Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

Continuing the run of iconic two-seaters, the Italian giants have created another very special example.

The Alfa Romeo Spider (Type 916) is a two-seat roadster version of the GTV – only ~39,000 were ever produced between 1995 and 2006. The GTV variant was described as "one of the best sports cars of its time" by Jeremy Clarkson in 1998 and listed at No. 29 in the top 100 cars from 2001.

Fitted with a 2.0-litre 16-valve Twin Spark (148 hp) engine block, the car flies on the straights and holds its own in the corners. Equipped with power steering, auto air con, ABS, electric heated door mirrors, electric frameless windows, adjustable headlamps, an adjustable steering wheel, six speakers and central locking, this car isn't short on electrical conveniences either.

This UK 2000 Alfa Romeo Spider comes fresh to the market from ~ 2 years with our vendor and just over ~8,000 miles from new and just one former keeper, making it a very desirable example.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Derreck the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

As a previous Alfa owner, the itch to own a Spider needed to be scratched.

Derreck is no stranger to Alfa Romeo ownership, having owned a couple in the past. One he had always fancied owning was a Spider, the perfect modern classic to enjoy some open-top motoring.

Searching for the ideal candidate soon came to a stop when he found this UK car, one previous owner, ~8,000-mile example…. Yes, just ~8,042 miles. Since taking ownership two years ago, the car has been used very little and only when the weather is dry. Finding it a little more difficult to get in and out of nowadays is what’s led to the decision to sell the modern Italian classic.

Derreck will be happy to answer any questions below.

Exterior

Pure Italian flair - The Pinifarina styling house did it again!

Wheels and Tyres

The original wheels are in good condition, with only light age-related marks and minor discolouration.

The tyres are a matching set of Pirelli, which are several years old but do have a good amount of tread remaining.

Please take the time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels and tyres, so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

Looking around the car, the panels align well with an equal gap, and no dings or dents were spotted.

The fabric roof is in excellent condition and operates correctly. With the recent installation of a new motor, it should be good for many years to come.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Finished in solid black the paintwork presents well, with no areas of concern to mention. There are some light swirl marks which could easily be reduced with a professional machine polish.

The images are taken from a range of angles to show the car as you would see it in person, so please take the time to fully assess the high-resolution photos and videos before forming your own opinion of the paintwork.

image

Glass and Trim

The windows look to be in good condition, with no noticeable scratches or damage spotted other than the odd age-related mark.

The headlights and rear light lenses are all in good condition. There is a small crack in the rear reflector between the rear light lenses.

Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself.

image

Interior

A lovely tan leather interior complements the solid black exterior for a classy look.

Seats and Carpets

The tan leather MOMO-branded seats are in excellent condition, with minimal signs of age or wear.

Throughout the cabin and boot, the carpets are in excellent condition and nice and clean.

There is also a set of fitted mats which are in good order.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard is free from scuffs or damage.

All instruments work correctly, and the odometer shows just ~8,043 miles at the time of our visit.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original leather steering wheel shows very little sign of age, helped by the super-low mileage.

The gear knob is also leather and in good condition.

image

Mechanics

The 2.0-litre Twin Spark loves to be revved and sounds great.

Engine and Gearbox

With just ~8,043 miles, the engine is pretty much just run in! The Alfa fires up without hesitation and runs with no problems - approximately one month ago, Derreck had the timing belt and water pump replaced, ready for the new keeper.

The gears in the five-speed gearbox are easily selected, and the Alfa pulls strongly through the range.

image

Suspension and Brakes

On the road, the car is great fun and handles well, with no knocks or bangs heard coming from either corner of the car during our drive.

The brakes bring the Alfa to a stop in a straight line, with no issues reported by Derreck.

image

The Drive

You couldn’t really ask for more; the classic Italian roadster delivers exactly what it was intended for. A stylish exterior combined with a spacious cabin fitted with supportive, comfortable seats. The agile handling and responsive steering are a pleasure to experience, topped off with the wonderful, rev-happy 2.0-litre Twin Spark engine, which provides ample performance and a great-sounding exhaust note.

image

Electrics and Other

As an optional extra, the previous keeper specified a CD multichanger was fitted, and this sits nicely behind the seats under the lift-up panel.

All the switchgear is in good condition and working as it should, including the air conditioning, which blew cold on our visit.

image

History and Paperwork

Even though just over ~8,000 miles have been covered, there is still a nice collection of service stamps.

A full set of original keys are included, along with the owner's manuals and the service book, which has 9 service stamps. There are also several invoices for work carried out, including the recent timing belt, water pump (New head gasket also fitted) and roof motor.

A new battery was fitted just after Derreck purchased the car, so less than two years ago.

For anyone looking to get behind the wheel of a modern two-seater classic, this 2000 Alfa Romeo Spider ticks all the boxes. It’s super-low mileage, has low ownership, and has enough mod cons, such as an electric roof, windows, and air conditioning, to make driving it very comfortable and easy. The 2.0-litre Twin Spark is a fantastic engine that delivers great performance, and, finally, just look at it… It’s a real modern classic with a unique look.

We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including photo ID and V5 verification, as well as a history check on the vehicle. This is a professional HPI check that will highlight if the car has previously been stolen, recorded as being involved in an accident or has any outstanding finance. Please note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We’ve summarised our own view of the car based on information provided by the seller; however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video each car in high-resolution detail so you can make your own assessment from the comfort of your home. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time reviewing everything in this listing.

Viewings are also welcomed on all our listings. Please get in touch to arrange a suitable time; we just need to speak to you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If there’s anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments section before placing your bids, as bids cannot be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car, just like at a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
