Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Editor and Photographer

Exclusivity coupled with mind-blowing performance and refinement.

Officially recognised as a standalone manufacturer, Alpina takes BMW’s core foundations and transforms them at its Buchloe factory, where engines are hand-assembled, and interiors are custom-trimmed. By harmonising BMW’s hallmark refinement and reliability with Alpina’s signature torque-heavy power, the brand carves a unique niche from an already talented series of vehicles.

Having tuned and converted the 3 Series since 1987, Alpina has cultivated a prestigious relationship with BMW offering discerning customers a high level of exclusivity. Adhering to a philosophy of understated elegance, the fourth-generation 3 Series (E9X platform) is widely regarded as the sweet spot between modern reliability and classic driving dynamics.

The B3 S BiTurbo is propelled into supercar territory by its 3.0L N54 twin-turbocharged straight-six, an engine enhanced with Mahle pistons, uprated cooling, and the intuitive Switch-Tronic gearbox. This creates a driving experience that is both punchy and smooth, retaining all the practicality and ergonomics of the 3 Series.

First unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, this 2011 example is one of the most exclusive iterations ever produced; it is believed to be one of just 25 RHD E93 convertibles ever built. Finished in 'Alpinweiss' (Alpine White) with a black leather interior, it has covered only ~51,973 miles and boasts an impressive service history. As part of a private collection, the car comes from two and a half years with our vendor and is accompanied by the original owner’s wallet and booklets, two sets of keys, and a fresh service completed in April 2026. With an MOT valid until August 2026, this rare Alpina is ready and waiting for its next custodian.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Sandeep the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

Smartly presented with minimal signs of age, this car has been well preserved.

Wheels and Tyres

The 19” multispoke alloys are in excellent shape, with no marks or scuffs.

The front and rear of the car are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, with the front showing a spec of 245/35 and the rear 265/35 - these are date coded from 2020 to 2024. All have legal and even tread.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The panel fit is flush to the body, with even shut lines. All doors open and close with ease. The underside, wheel wells, and floor pan of the car are solid throughout with no notable damage or signs of age. The engine bay and boot floor are similarly solid, with no exterior panel damage.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

The 'Alpinweiss' white paint finish has an excellent lustre and smooth, even consistency. The body has a couple of minor paint touch-ups, but otherwise presents very positively. There are minor signs of age noted around the aperture on the rear number plate lights.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass is in good shape, with decent seals. The lights and lenses are clean with minor signs of fade on the boot lid lenses. The body trim is tidy and well-mounted to the body.

The bumpers are flush to the body and free of scuffs or marks. There are a few minor chips and a light dimpling on a small section of the front bumper, but generally only noticeable when closely inspected.

image

Interior

An impeccably maintained cabin, elevated by bespoke, handcrafted quality.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather Alpina-branded seats are soft to the touch, showing minimal stretch and retaining their tight stitching. The driver's side has mild bolster wear, but all are above the expectations of a car of this age.

The carpets and mats are in good condition, and all are damp-free. The boot trim suggests careful and light use. The car comes with a spare set of rubber front footwell mats.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard remains in exceptional condition, featuring nearly flawless padding, facia, and controls. While the display screen shows some minor surface wear, it doesn’t interfere with visibility or use.

All of the controls are said to work as they should.

Throughout the rest of the cabin, the door cards, headlining, and trim present positively.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The multi-functional steering wheel and gear lever are smartly presented.

image

Mechanics

Potent power and agility are perfectly complemented by engineering finesse and long-term durability.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine fires up with no hesitation, free of unwanted noises or any dashboard warning lights. It settles instantly into a consistent and stable idle. There was nothing more than the usual cold engine condensation, which cleared up straight away. The car was leak-free during our visit.

The engine presents positively with decent hoses and ancillaries. The battery has recently been replaced.

The 6-speed ZF automatic transmission is mated with a control system called Switch Tronic. It operates without fault, with seamless, almost imperceptible gear changes. It downshifts smoothly and is free from hesitation during acceleration.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The car has Alpina-tuned suspension springs, which improve both the stance and handling of the car. At town speeds, it absorbed the road imperfections without fault and felt balanced upon braking and acceleration.

The car brakes confidently, free of any drama - silent, smooth, and consistent. Sandeep is satisfied with the performance, reporting a firm pedal feel.

The Drive

The B3 S features a high-performance evolution of the 3.0L N54 twin-turbocharged straight-six. Delivering nearly 400 bhp, this engine is a giant-killer: in the right conditions, it can out-accelerate rivals with double the displacement to 60 mph. Furthermore, BMW’s signature commitment to precision engineering ensures that this exhilarating performance is matched by long-term reliability.

Despite its high-performance tuning, the engine remains remarkably composed at all speeds. It pulls with a smooth, even delivery at lower revs, offering a level of docility that makes navigating heavy city traffic a stress-free experience. During a brief opportunity to open the car up, it showcased its potent chassis and seamless, linear power.

With more torque than an M3 but without the punishing ride quality, the B3S is also surprisingly efficient: 30 mpg is easily achievable on longer runs. The automatic gearbox shifts flawlessly, perfectly complementing the engine’s power delivery.

We felt that the driving experience is so refined that it’s easy to forget you are behind the wheel of a 15-year-old vehicle.

The steering tracks well, with no reported negative feedback, remaining true upon braking. The car handles well, and the ride is supple and confident. There were no creaks or rattles from the car, the cabin remaining remarkably quiet during our low-speed test drive. Sandeep has not experienced any issues with the engine temperature or oil pressure, and the car has been reliable in his 3 years of ownership.

Electrics and Other

The roof mechanism operates strain-free and without creaks during operation.

History and Paperwork

The car's meticulous maintenance history and consistent upkeep underscore its exceptional reliability.

Handled via Sytner, it was first registered in June 2011. This vehicle is a documented, genuine RHD Alpina B3 S BiTurbo, originally based on the 330i M Sport convertible. Marked as number 231 of the total B3 S production run, it is an exceptionally rare find, believed to be one of only 25 RHD convertible E93 Alpinas ever produced.

It comes with 11 instances of servicing and a folder containing a high percentage of BMW servicing and maintenance invoices. Recent work includes a rear speed sensor, a battery, and a front spring. The car has been serviced at a main dealer since new, with the most recent oil change in April 2026 by an independent.

It comes with its full owner's wallet, with booklets and Alpina-specific manuals. It comes with two sets of keys, an MOT until August 2026, and has been stored in a private underground storage facility.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
