Beautifully shaped, extremely fast, and engaging to drive - what else would you expect from Aston Martin.

The 'Volante' is the convertible version of the DB9 Coupé produced from '05 to '12, with a stiffer chassis, using the same VH platform as the Coupé. In an effort to improve the Volante's ride while cruising, Aston Martin fitted softened springs and lighter anti-roll bars, leading to a gentle suspension setup with still plenty of performance in the corners.

It's a worthy competitor to the Ferrari California and Maserati GranCabrio, with its dashing good looks you'll be able to cruise around town while enjoying the gentle hum from the 470bhp 6L V12 under the hood. The car will hit 62mph in 4.8 seconds and can reach 190mph.

This example has been owned by sports car enthusiast, Stuart for the previous year. It's his first Aston Martin and he was very meticulous when it came to finding one. The car comes with extensive service history and is finished in an attractive dark Sapphire over cream colourway.

Meet the owner

I've had the pleasure of owning and driving many supercars, however, this is my first Aston Martin and a very special one that I'll never forget.

Stuart has owned many iconic cars over the years, from Ferraris to Rolls Royces and everything in between - this DB9 has been his favourite of the bunch. The DB9 won Stuart over with it's "ageless design and stunning body".

It took Stuart a year of searching to find the perfect example, the most important feature to him was extensive service history, exactly what this one comes with.

Stuart, unfortunately, has decided to part with the car, and purchase something a little more practical for everyday use. Over his ownership, he has had the DB9 serviced in line with the manufactures schedule, along with the differential oil recently being changed and the roof mechanism overhauled.

Exterior

A company with a reputation for highly elegant cars, Aston Martin lives up to the reputation with the DB9 - the Volante looks graceful on any road.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 19" 15 Spoke DB9 Alloys, the car looks great and really graces the Volante with a sporting look.

When getting close to both front alloys, we noticed some slight curbing, they would benefit from some light refurbishment.

The tyres that wrap these large alloys are Bridgestone / Goodyear and are dated 2016/19 and appear in good condition with a good amount of tread.

Bodywork

During our visit, the bodywork highlighted no major areas of concern with the panels looking very straight and true.

In January 2020, the car had repair work carried out to the nearside front wing, front bumper, and bonnet, the work was carried out by McGurk, a performance car specialist to an extremely high standard.

Some very light stone chips are present on the front bumper along with some minor scratches, that look like they would polish out well. There's some light scuffing on the lower lip of the front bumper.

We have taken extensive hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

In March 2019, the car was treated to a 3-stage polish and ceramic coating protection.

The car is finished in a Dark Sapphire Blue which contrasts against the cream interior, so well. The paint has a smooth finish, even in colour, and deep in lustre, Stuart has always kept the car under a cover while in storage, which is included within the sale.

Again, the images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass appears to be in excellent unchipped condition - we noticed no areas of distortion or discolouration. The windscreen has been previously replaced.

Interior

Aston certainly make beautiful interiors - this DB9 feels expensive and luxurious, made with the finest care and quality.

Seats and Carpets

Luxurious and hard wearing cream leather seats with all the gadgets. The seats are in good condition in the front and the back, with some minor creases and wear to drivers bolster, that looks to be in line with the age and mileage of the car.

The rear seats, door cards, convertible headlining, and carpets all look in good condition, in line with the rest of the interior.

Dashboard

As with the rest of the car, a really nice soft leather and wood veneer design throughout. A clean and smart dashboard and performance-focused instrument cluster.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A familiar and multi-functional steering wheel is found within this DB9 Volante.

Both the steering wheel and gearstick are in a condition you would expect from this car - we didn't observe and excessive signs of wear and tear and both items present smartly.

Mechanics

The iconic V12 was borrowed from the Vanquish, and doesn't disappoint with ~450bhp to tap into - the car offers a sport yet luxury GT experience.

Engine and Gearbox

The 6-litre block is paired to the automatic gearbox, the most popular option for the DB9 for all the right reasons. The gearbox delivers ~450bhp effectively and can transport the car to 60MPH in a very impressive ~4.7 seconds.

This example has been well maintained within the dealer suggested schedule, an important factor on Stuart's original search, and he has kept this disciplined servicing routine since taking ownership himself.

We captured the car starting from cold, along with an on-the-road video which shows the car funcitoning smoothly without any known fault.

Suspension and Brakes

Fitted with double-wishbone suspension which offers extreme stability when accelerating quickly, the chassis is aluminum and is 25% lighter than its predecessor.

The most recent MOT flagged up no advisories relating to the suspension or brakes.

The Drive

450BHP is delivered straight away to the rear wheels, the DB9 Volante is arguably the best convertible GT sports car out there and the perfect choice for European cruising next summer.

With the softer suspension and impressive level of refinement, any road trip will be an utter joy in this Volante.

Electrics and Other

Fitted with electric seats, the Aston Martin entertainment system, Stuart reports that everything is working to his knowledge.

History and Paperwork

A beautiful dark Sapphire Blue over Cream example, and just ~61,000 miles completed - great value for one of the most luxurious convertible GT's on the market.

Stuart purchased this DB9 Volante around 12 months ago. It's his first Aston Martin and has offered him a motoring experience he'll never forget. Over its life, the Aston received good service history and previous work has all been carried out by either main dealers or specialists.

Hi there, beautiful car! I saw on the service document that it went in to have a noise looked at coming from the back centre. Did they manage to fully resolve that? Anything else like it that you are aware of? If you were keeping it would there be anything else you’d expect to need to get fixed soon? Perhaps anything they warned you about in the last service?
