Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

A beautifully crafted V12 grand tourer, blending timeless Aston Martin design with effortless performance and open-top refinement.

Introduced in 2003, the Aston Martin DB9 marked a significant new chapter for the marque, becoming the first production model built at Aston Martin’s new Gaydon facility in Warwickshire. Designed by Ian Callum under the direction of Henrik Fisker, the DB9 replaced the DB7 and combined elegant proportions, handcrafted luxury, and advanced engineering to create a modern interpretation of the classic Aston Martin grand tourer. Built around a lightweight aluminium architecture and powered by a front-mounted V12 engine, the DB9 quickly became recognised as one of the finest luxury sports cars of its era, offering effortless performance with exceptional refinement.

The DB9 Volante, introduced alongside the coupé, brought the same blend of performance and craftsmanship with the added appeal of open-top grand touring. Powered by Aston Martin’s naturally aspirated 6-litre V12 engine, producing ~450 BHP and paired with either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission, it delivered smooth, engaging performance while maintaining the comfort expected of a luxury grand tourer. With its beautifully crafted interior, timeless styling, and V12 soundtrack, the DB9 Volante became a defining model of Aston Martin’s modern era and remains highly regarded among enthusiasts today.

This example is finished in deep black paintwork over a black leather interior, complemented by black trim and freshly refurbished alloy wheels. Supported by 12 service stamps, 10 of which are from main dealers, this DB9 Volante represents an excellent opportunity for summer open-top motoring. The very appropriate private plate AM02 VOL is included in the sale.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Philip the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The DB9 Volante’s elegant proportions and flowing lines create a stunning silhouette, showcasing Aston Martin’s signature design language at its finest.

Philip mentioned viewing many cars before deciding that the DB9 was the right choice for him. He was looking for a powerful V12 convertible to complement his Rolls-Royce Ghost, and this DB9 ticked all the boxes.

Philip has thoroughly enjoyed his ownership of the DB9 this year, but due to personal reasons, Philip has made the difficult decision to part with his collection of cars and has brought them to auction with us.

Philip will be sad to see this particular example go and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Presented with beautifully designed bodywork and a deep black exterior, the DB9 Volante has a commanding yet understated presence.

Wheels and Tyres

This example is fitted with Aston Martin 19-inch 15-spoke alloy wheels, which present in great condition. The wheels have been recently refurbished and refinished in April this year.

The wheels are fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tyres, dated as follows: N/S/F 2021, N/S/R 2025, O/S/R 2019, and O/S/F 2020. They appear to be in good visual condition, with a good amount of remaining tread and no visible cracking on the sidewalls.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The bodywork appears to be in great overall condition, with panel gaps aligning visually well around the car.

As to be expected, there are some minor age-related marks including a scratch to the front bonnet, and a small scratch to the front nearside arch.

We've provided more detailed observations through our high-resolution images and videos. Please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Finished in a timeless black, the paintwork presents in great condition with even colour and coverage across all panels.

Once again, we've captured high-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the paintwork for yourselves.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass is in good condition for the car’s age - during our visit we didn’t notice any obvious cracks or discolouration. We did notice a small stone chip on the passengers side.

The window seals appear good and consistent with the overall condition of the car.

The door handles and window surrounds also present well.

The black convertible roof presents in great condition.

image

Interior

The handcrafted interior combines fine leather, rich wood veneers, and traditional British craftsmanship to create a luxurious and inviting cabin.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather seats have retained their shape well over the years, with only light creasing visible. The dashboard features black leather trim, complemented by matching carpets and dark wood door cappings.

The door cards and carpets present similarly, showing a consistent level of condition throughout the interior.

For a detailed view of the cabin, please take a look through the extensive media.

Mechanics

Powered by a naturally aspirated V12 engine, the DB9 Volante delivers smooth, refined performance perfectly suited to relaxed grand touring.

Engine and Gearbox

At the heart of the DB9 Volante lies Aston Martin’s renowned 6.0-litre V12 engine, producing ~450 BHP and delivering the effortless performance expected from a true grand tourer. Paired with a smooth six-speed automatic gearbox, the engine provides seamless power delivery, exceptional refinement, and the unmistakable V12 soundtrack that Aston Martin is renowned for. Designed to cover long distances with ease while still offering impressive performance when called upon.

On the day of our visit, we started the car from cold and it performed well on the road - the V12 engine delivered strong, smooth power, idled cleanly, and ran as expected.

Philip reports that the Aston Martin starts from cold without issue and drives beautifully, with the smooth automatic gearbox delivering the V12’s power effortlessly. Please take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, being driven, and for a closer look underneath around the DB9.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The DB9 Volante features an advanced double wishbone suspension setup, designed to provide the perfect balance between sporting ability and long-distance comfort. The chassis offers impressive composure and stability, allowing the car to feel refined and effortless during relaxed cruising while remaining engaging on more spirited roads.

On the drive out, Philip took us along some local roads. We heard no obvious knocks, bangs, or squeaks from the suspension, and overall, the car performed as expected with no issues observed.

We cover the underside of the Aston in our "Mechanical" gallery section. Head over to our video section, where we've summarised our visit in more detail for you to view for yourself.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
